2011 Draft: Draft Details Announced

Via Conor Glassey, details for the 2011 draft have been announced by Major League Baseball. MLB Network will broadcast the first and supplemental first round at 7pm ET on Monday, June 6th. A one-hour draft preview show will precede it. Rounds two through 30 will take place via conference call on Tuesday, and the final 20 rounds will take place on Wednesday, so it’s just like last year. The Yankees have just one pick on Day One, the 51st overall selection that will probably take place at like, 10:30pm ET. That’s a shame.

If I were a Rays fan this would be awesome to watch

It’s good that MLB Network is turning the draft into such a big deal. It’s always good when a bunch of kids who may not have made the big leagues anyway now get tons of unwarranted scrutiny thrust upon them as well.

“Our 3rd round pick is hitting .176 in A?! FIRE THE GM!”

Yeah and you could pretty much do the same for 1st round picks. It’s the same as the NHL draft, aside from the top player available there’s very few “sure things”. I don’t even know if you can have one “can’t miss” kid every year.

  3. Gonzo says:

They don’t hand out awards for winning the offseason or the draft.

  4. EndlessMikeJr says:

Cashman this year neds to hit the international draft hard and not let high international players get away from us.

I agree, and I’d love to see the Yankees go absolutely crazy with international bonuses this year. But don’t forget that they’ve already spent around $2m since November, which is about what most teams will spend all year.
