Girardi: A-Rod MRI came back ‘clean’
ByAfter leaving yesterday’s game with soreness in his lower back and oblique, A-Rod sat out today’s game. He didn’t come up to pinch hit for Eric Chavez against a lefty in the 8th inning, and while the non-move luckily paid off, I was surprised and worried that A-Rod didn’t come up. After the game, Joe Girardi addressed A-Rod’s condition. He said that the team sent their third baseman for an MRI today, and the results came back “clean.”
That’s great news for the slugger, but the Yanks aren’t out of the woods yet. Girardi said the team will play it by ear going forward, and they can enjoy the luxury of an off-day tomorrow. By the time the Yanks take the turf against the Blue Jays on Tuesday, A-Rod will have enjoyed around 75 hours of rest and treatment. Hopefully, that will be long enough. The Yanks, meanwhile, have the bench to cover for a short-term A-Rod absence.

Phew…
Kill them all, ARod
I thought it made sense to let Chavez hit, he’s been hot in the clutch.
And who, pray tell, would have hit in Chavez’s place?
I don’t mind Arod missing a few more days, even the next series, if it means he stays healthy. Chavez is seeing the bell great, so I don’t know how much we’d be missing with Arods bat considering the impact playing him could have later in the year.
If they are going to send ARod to get a precautionary MRI, why havent they done the same with Hughes…
They’ve ran tests on Hughes and haven’t found anything wrong. They’ve said this a few times.
Maybe the Yanks will continue to play it safe and let A-Rod DH on Tuesday so he does not exert himself too much on the turf in Toronto. Either way it does not sound like a big deal and having A-Rod back will be a very good thing.
I originally thought the Yanks might DH A-Rod Tuesday, but if it’s a back/oblique issue, his swing will only exacerbate it. They won’t let him play until they think he’s OK to bat. It may be a few days.
Maybe Girardi was such a genius that he knew that Chavez would hit a single in that situation so he didn’t pinch hit arod, lol
And maybe it’s better that Chavez plays instead of A-Rod because Chavez can hit singles and not just homeruns.
Are you really complaining about the guy leading the league with a .385 batting average and a 1.321 OPS this early in the season or are you joking?
Home runs are bad.
Do the Yankees hit too many homeruns? Obviously yes and tonight’s game is proof. The single ultimately gave us the victory while the homeruns nearly cost us the game.
You’re just trolling, right? No one who watches baseball thinks home runs are bad. They are, in fact, the maximal outcome for any AB. One swing, one (or more) run(s). They certainly didn’t cost us the game.
Ask yourself this: Would you rather have seen a three-run home or a one-run single in the eighth inning?
Wait this is a joke, no?
how in the world did the home runs nearly cost us the game
because they weren’t gritty
Well, Cano’s wasn’t anyway. Or Granderson’s. And Martin’s was fucking French, or something. Guess you’re right.
Is this Pete (“yankees are better of with Cody Ransome at 3B”) Abraham?
I must have been the only one that picked up on ESPN’s narrative of the game- Homeruns are bad and the Rangers brand of small ball is the way the game should be played.
I love how dejected ESPN’s announcers get when the Yanks win.
I have to hand it to Cashman on infiltrating Carl Crawful behind enemy lines in Boston.
He’s doing a bang up job at sabotage. A true shadow warrior.
Am I the only one who loved Bobby Valentine on the broadcast booth?
Um, yes? Because he is an idiot.
At least one test for A-Rod came back clean…
