Colon to start Saturday
By Mike AxisaJoe Girardi announced after this afternoon’s game that Bartolo Colon will indeed start Saturday afternoon’s game against the Mets. Apparently he came through whatever drills they put him through well enough to pitch. Brian Gordon will presumably shift into a long relief role, and hopefully this means Hector Noesi will go back to Triple-A to work as a starter. Hooray for having Bart back.

Great news all around.
Yay Bartolo.
Yay!
Body fat recovers faster than muscle!
It’ll be interesting to see what they do with Noesi. Girardi seems to like having his fastball in the pen, but it would certainly be better for his development to go to AAA and actually pitch. I’d give Gordon a shot at as the long-relief man.
Do the Bartman!

“Hooray for having Bart back.”
you never thought you would say that.
I didn’t care for the Colon signing, but this guy is probably going to finish with 15 wins and almost 200k. I’m glad it didn’t take long for him to come back.
His stuff plays better in the pen.

It would steal Derek Jeter’s soul to bat him 9th

The Yankees had the best 1-2 punch in baseball before Bartolo went down. Now that is regained, also have the best 1-2 punch at the end of the bullpen, and Phil is coming back to be a solid #3 starter. There’s no stopping us after the ASB.
The best 1-2 paunch too.
Well done sir.
Am I thethe only dissenter here? Seems silly to start him in NL park where he may actually have to run. Would exercise extra caution with Bartolo. We’ve seen tons of guys in good shape come back too sppn frm hammy injuries. Don’t understand the rush here.
Just tell him not to swing the bat. If he has to bunt, don’t even both running.
this is a non issue, if he makes contact, it’s going to be a homerun
Its great to get Colon back. Hopefully he didn’t lose that 2 seamer while on the dl.
As for Noesi, don’t send him down. Aside from that game against the Reds he has pitched well out of the pen for us. Girardi hasn’t used him as a long man, instead he has been a very solid 1 or 2 inning reliever for us. Gordon should be the one sent down. No reason to keep him here when he is a mop-up man at best. Besides you can’t have both Gordon and Mitre in the pen. That would make for a very weak bullpen outside of Mo, Robertson and maybe Logan.
Gordon is gone anyway, when Hughes comes back, so he is the guy to the pen temporarily. Send Noesi down sooner to build back up as a starter. The kid pitches once every 5 days.
Noesi might be back, probably not though with Phil returning and Nova going to the pen. Noesi should be starting in AAA. With the rotation we’ll have in 2 weeks it’s not imperative that Noesi pitch the 6th and 7th.
I could see them put Nova in the pen but not if he pitched well again tomorrow night. I just don’t want to see Nova and Noesi get sent down while both Mitre and Gordon stay on this team. One of Nova/Noesi should be in the pen because they have the kind of stuff to help in late innings. Also, outside of Mo and Robertson we really don’t have any good option in close, late game situations.
Maybe his doc back home did some stem-call conjure on the leg too, and he comes back throwing 105 and beating Gardner in the 40.
Yay, we all <3 Bartolo
