Heeeeeeeeeeee’s back! Mitre’s a Yankee

By

Via Tom Haudricourt, the Yankees have acquired Sergio Mitre from the Brewers for cash. He had been designated for assignment the other day. Buddy Carlyle has been DFA’ed to clear room on both the 25-man and 40-man rosters. It’s just a marginal upgrade (at best), and I think we can all agree that Mitre is better than Carlyle. This one’s for the lulz.

    speechless.

  2. In before incessant bitching about a LONGMAN. Mitre’s probably going to take his old role back, pitching in hilarious blowouts.

  3. Dela G says:

    You’re next, gaudin…. You’re next.

Watch out for Scott proctor, too

  4. Adam says:

GTFO. Ridiculous. He must have something on Cashman. Three times off of the scrap heap.

  17. Operation Slade says:

I like Mitre just for the simple reason that he continues to reappear somehow on this team

  18. Pat D says:

This is kind of funny, since they did the same thing with Gaudin last year.

I’m sure he’s better than Carlyle, and face it, once Hughes and Soriano come back, he’s probably gone again.

  19. #24!!!! says:

WOW! Thank you NYY for not making the mistake of letting good old Mitre slip through your fingers. Making my night!

  20. Greg says:

Lets look at Mire’s stats this year: 3.27 ERA and a 1.21 WHiP in 22 gams. Not bad.

  21. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

It’d be HILARIOUS if he pitched against the Brewers tomorrow.

  22. Justin says:

I’m pretty sure thousands of Yankee fans just cried “NOOOO” in unison…oh the Jedi are gonna feel this one.

  28. Ivan says:

LMAO. Good call! Makes this situation 10 times funnier, I think.

  32. Skip says:

He’s the freaking 25th man on the roster and the last one out of the bullpen. No big deal. Mitre was a 3.33/4.69/4.20 ERA/FIP/xFIP for us last year with very similar numbers this year. I’ll take his 51% GB rate over Carlyle’s 22% GB rate any day in Yankee Stadium.

Funny that he’s back? Eh, whatever, I’m fine with it.

  33. Thomas Cassidy says:

Amusing, but not a bad trade. A mop-up/half way decent pitcher for nothing? I’ll take that any day. If he doesn’t work out, he gets cut. So I have no problem with this trade. That is, assuming that Girardi realizes he isn’t Ramiro Mendoza.

  34. Jorge says:

Far, far worse pitchers have spent time in a New York Yankees uniform than Sergio Mitre since they first acquired him. He was a victim of the numbers of the game at the start of the year. That’s not the case now. They got him for cheap. Case closed.

Besides, now Theo can’t acquire him, in the ultimate depth move, and make him their #56 starter.

  35. Justin says:

Please don’t sign Sidney Ponson tomorrow….. Please don’t sign Sidney Ponson tomorrow….. Please don’t sign Sidney Ponson tomorrow….. Please don’t sign Sidney Ponson tomorrow…..

  36. bonestock94 says:

Hahahahahahahaa this is fucking awesome, everyone and their mother called this

  37. Stratman9652 says:

Forgive me for not having a clue here, but why does everyone call him the Experience? Is there a joke I missed somewhere?

    • TheLastClown says:

He was known around these parts as “The Sergio Mitre Experience.”

Because it’s such an “experience” to watch him start.

  38. M-Three says:

This is stupid. There was no reason to bring Mitrash back. Girardi has always overated/overvalued this guy. This guy is nothing more than a mop-up guy but Girardi acts like Mitre is a key ingredient to this team.

I don’t care what Mitre’s number were last year for us or this year with the Brewers. He only put up those numbers because he pitch with no pressure on him what so ever. Just watch, the first oppertunity Girardi gets he will put this guy into a game with a 1-run lead and we will lose. Mitre = Carlyle and Sanit

    • jsbrendog says:

yeah and cashman sucks and failed at building opitching depth!!!

    • TMiller30 says:

I actually heard somewhere that Mitre is a really good club house guy. Maybe with Nova/Noesi up Cashman is thinking he can be a bit of a teacher as well as a mop up guy

I may or may not have made that up.. I just think it’s funny Mitre’s back. I have no problem with it.

  39. KenC says:

watch cash considerations be enough for the brewers to resign fielder XD

  40. ND Mike says:

I don’t know why we cant just give Igawa a chance….

    …and I’m so kidding btw.

  41. John Kruk's belly says:

Cashman has found us our #2 starter!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!

  42. Jimmy McNulty says:

I like the move, he’s better than Buddy and he’s probably okay enough to face the bottom third of a line up in the 7th or so.

  43. Mickey Scheister says:

I’d rather have Mitre over Gaudin. Just when u thought he was out…they pull him back in!

  44. 4everbronx says:

I have not pitched since LL. I’m available.

  45. caldr62np says:

Unreal. Why bring back Girardi’s mistress? It’s just stupid. Hughes and Colon are coming back. They have to put Nova in the pen so we’re going to have 2 long men? Dont’ get it.

  46. duzzi23 says:

When I got the text from my friend the Yankees got mitre back I thought he was joking cuz of the brewers series. I cant believe they got him back!! He must have pics of girardi cheating on his wife. “Of all the dramatic things sergio mitre in the Bronx hes coming back to the yankee

    /Susan waldmaned

  47. Ray R says:

Welcome back, Sergio! Now Cashman is a lock for executive of the year.

  48. Slugger27 says:

    what does “lulz” mean?

  49. caldr62np says:

“I cant believe they got him back!! He must have pics of girardi cheating on his wife.”

Dude, Mitre’s the the other woman…man.

  50. duzzi23 says:

    Haha prob right. sergio mistress

  51. MikeD says:

Nice move. Seriously. We traded him for Chris Dickerson, and now we have Dickerson and Mitre. Next Spring, we’ll trade him for someone else!

  52. M-Three says:

Heres what will really piss me off and I can see coming from a mile away: If when Colon and Hughes return the 2 pitchers that lose their spots on the team are Nova and Noesi. Then Mitre and Gordon stay and we have 2 mop-up guys for no reason what so ever when shouldn’t even have 1. Both Nova and Noesi are clearly better than Mitre and Gordon but I can see Girardi and Cashman doing something stupid like that. We would then have a bullpen of 2 dominant relievers in Mo and D-Rob, an inconsistent lefty in logan, a guy who we really don’t know what he is yet in Wade, Ayala(what ever role he actually fills) and two mop-up guys who can’t handle pressure and don’t have good stuff. That would an embarassment.

  53. Tim says:

Nobody is asking the real question here, though…

Does Sergio Mitre meet the “he’s better than Mitre” requirement?

    I say, “Yes!”

  54. Dave says:

The fact that 90% of RAB posters get upset with Sergio Mitre(who is way better than Buddy whoever) shows you they are disconnected from the rest of the world and need to take a break from the Yankees.

  55. jsbrendog says:

    THE EXPERIENCE!!!!!

  56. B-Rando says:

Just wanted to give a big thanks out to my fellow RAB-ers. This thread is full of just good old fashioned fun.

  57. Mike says:

Yes, like the rest of you, I would take Mitre over Carlyle. However, what the Yankees need is another lefty reliever, not another long relief pitcher. Hughes and Colon will be back, therefore Gordon and another pitcher (quite possibly Mitre) will be gone. Nova or Garcia would then be the long man.

What they should have gotten is a lefty reliever. They still can of course, but picking up Mitre makes no sense whatsoever

  58. Christian says:

    Horrible decision mitre sucks
