Heeeeeeeeeeee’s back! Mitre’s a Yankee
ByVia Tom Haudricourt, the Yankees have acquired Sergio Mitre from the Brewers for cash. He had been designated for assignment the other day. Buddy Carlyle has been DFA’ed to clear room on both the 25-man and 40-man rosters. It’s just a marginal upgrade (at best), and I think we can all agree that Mitre is better than Carlyle. This one’s for the lulz.

He’s the freaking 25th man on the roster and the last one out of the bullpen. No big deal. Mitre was a 3.33/4.69/4.20 ERA/FIP/xFIP for us last year with very similar numbers this year. I’ll take his 51% GB rate over Carlyle’s 22% GB rate any day in Yankee Stadium.

Amusing, but not a bad trade. A mop-up/half way decent pitcher for nothing? I’ll take that any day. If he doesn’t work out, he gets cut. So I have no problem with this trade. That is, assuming that Girardi realizes he isn’t Ramiro Mendoza.
Far, far worse pitchers have spent time in a New York Yankees uniform than Sergio Mitre since they first acquired him. He was a victim of the numbers of the game at the start of the year. That’s not the case now. They got him for cheap. Case closed.
Besides, now Theo can’t acquire him, in the ultimate depth move, and make him their #56 starter.

This is stupid. There was no reason to bring Mitrash back. Girardi has always overated/overvalued this guy. This guy is nothing more than a mop-up guy but Girardi acts like Mitre is a key ingredient to this team.
I don’t care what Mitre’s number were last year for us or this year with the Brewers. He only put up those numbers because he pitch with no pressure on him what so ever. Heres what will really piss me off and I can see coming from a mile away: If when Colon and Hughes return the 2 pitchers that lose their spots on the team are Nova and Noesi. Then Mitre and Gordon stay and we have 2 mop-up guys for no reason what so ever when shouldn’t even have 1. Both Nova and Noesi are clearly better than Mitre and Gordon but I can see Girardi and Cashman doing something stupid like that. We would then have a bullpen of 2 dominant relievers in Mo and D-Rob, an inconsistent lefty in logan, a guy who we really don’t know what he is yet in Wade, Ayala(what ever role he actually fills) and two mop-up guys who can’t handle pressure and don’t have good stuff. That would an embarassment.

Just wanted to give a big thanks out to my fellow RAB-ers. This thread is full of just good old fashioned fun.
Yes, like the rest of you, I would take Mitre over Carlyle. However, what the Yankees need is another lefty reliever, not another long relief pitcher. Hughes and Colon will be back, therefore Gordon and another pitcher (quite possibly Mitre) will be gone. Nova or Garcia would then be the long man.
What they should have gotten is a lefty reliever. They still can of course, but picking up Mitre makes no sense whatsoever
