Jeter, Colon, Chavez continue rehab in Tampa
By Mike AxisaDerek Jeter, Bartolo Colon, and Eric Chavez are continuing to progress in the rehab for their various injuries down in Tampa. Jeter threw for the third straight day but has not been cleared to start running, which is what really matters when it comes to his calf issue. He’s expected to increase his workouts in the coming days. Colon was able to run sprints in the outfield for the first time since injuring his hamstring, and he has continued to play long toss as well. He’s scheduled for a bullpen session tomorrow. Chavez ran the bases for the first time today, going from home to first about a half-dozen times today. He’s been hitting for a while now, but this is the first time he’s run on anything more than a treadmill. Great news for all three but especially for Colon and Chavez, who have started testing their leg/foot injuries.

Good news.
So the Yanks might get for the stretch run:
1. Top flight set-up man.
2. Starting caliber SS
3. Two starting pitchers
4. Quality lefty bat off the bench/utility infielder
5. LOOGY
All without giving up a single player.
The problem is that we are without them when they are supposed to be playing. I mean it’s great but everyone has to remember it sucks that we don’t have them…
And yet they are only 1/2 game back without those guys.
A SS on the low end of starting caliber
This. But Nunez/Pena almost make me miss him.
But Gardner/Swisher hitting leadoff makes me not miss him.
I just want to see him get 3,000 then slowly get phased out of the leadoff spot.
Don’t hold your breath.
JETER HAS PRIDE YOU TAKE THAT BACK
I thought he had an Edge?
Oh, bite me.
Earth to Tommie, you’re supposed to be a fanboy. A guy who comes up with stuff like Gardner is the best CF in baseball, Joba is a number one starter and… god knows what else I’ve missed.
Jeter is 37 years old and has had one bad year. Calm the fuck down. He’s not this bad.
No, he’s had two bad years in a row, and is worse this year than last. What gives you confidence that this 37 year old player is going to rebound to his former level of play?
Po is helping, I’ll tell you that. These are special players i am not inclined to quit on after a bad bunch of months.
And… one year. Jeter was Awesome in 2009, very good the first part of 2010, and has pretty much sucked ever since. One year, or ever since Minka dug her claws in him. He’ll figure it out.
Jeter was good, not great in April last year (.875 OPS). No other month did he have an OPS over .718.
Once all of the guys get back from their injuries, this team will look real good ( unless they suck when they return).
It doesn’t look real good now? They’re 10-3 since the Red Sox series.
I meant like even better
It doesn’t get much better than a .796 winning percentage.
(small sample sizes FTW)
Colon running sprints? He is more than ready
i figured he couldn’t run sprints even before the injury…
I assumed he meant his phone carrier or something when I first read it.
Do they time him with a sun dial?
I don’t think he ran sprints when he was healthy. He used a golf cart.

great news for Damaso Marte
Colon and Sprints…in the same sentence???

Tomorrow’s headline:
“Yanks’ Colon running.”
Should set us up for some sweeps of the Red Sox later in the season, no?
False. It’s impossible to sweep the best team ever assembled. The Red Sox haven’t lost a single game since Tax Day. Look it up.
Did anyone get any footage of Colon “sprinting”? I’ll have to see it to believe it.
