Game 84: Big Stoppa
ByCC Sabathia has played the role of stopper before, many times for the Yankees. In his two-and-a-half years in New York, Sabathia has started 34 games following a Yankees’ loss, and he’s helped his team to a win 23 times. That’s a pretty good way to stop a losing streak before it even starts. The Yankees have dropped the last two in very winnable fashion, so let’s hope their ace gets them back in the win column tonight. Here’s the lineup…
Derek Jeter, SS
Curtis Granderson, CF
Mark Teixeira, DH
Alex Rodriguez, 3B
Robinson Cano, 2B
Nick Swisher, RF
Jorge Posada, 1B
Brett Gardner, LF
Frankie Cervelli, C
The game begins a little after 7pm ET and can be seen on YES. Enjoy.
Mariano Rivera Update: Mo told Bryan Hoch that his sore triceps/elbow feels better, but they’re go to stay away from him again tonight. He’s only available in an extreme emergency.

Jeter + Cervelli = Shit lineup
…or one of the top two lineups in baseball.
The other seven guys are pretty good at hitting.
You’re a literal fool. Jesus christ. I wish Casey Anthony was your mother.
If I missed your snark, I apologize.
Your response seems…a bit over the top, given the circumstances.
That got out of hand fast.
Brick killed a guy.
You may want to find a relative or a safehouse in the area. Lay low for a while, because you’re probably wanted for murder.
Pretty good insult, you’ll only be able to use that one for a little bit longer so you may as well get it out of your system.
That was unnecessary and a bit over the top.
Bad call, Rainbow…
Must win game tonight. If you lose one you lose two then three then it continues to spiral out of control. Pretty soon you’ve lost all of the remaining games on the schedule. Win.
Look, you dont have to be sarcastic about it with me. I am a believer in momentum. And yes I know the saying that momentum goes as far as next day’s starter, but looking at the history of the game, I have seen many types of momentous streaks (The 95 Angels, The Mets of 08-09, The Marlins last month).
Will it happen to the Yankees? Probably not to those extents, but momentum in baseball does exist.
It you don’t think it’ll happen to the Yankees then why are you worried/thinking so much about momentum?
Well it comes down to YCPB and the fact that stranger things have happened.
The games don’t count. It’s only July.
Correct. None of these games count, actually. The only games that count are the games that I simulate and Strat-O-Matic games. And Dungeons and Dragons. That’s serious business.
The LoHud blog has some interesting info regarding a wide range of topics, from Eric Chavez to Rafael Soriano to the strong possibility of Mariano Rivera not going to the ASG.
Derek will go 3-4 with a walk and 2 2b, then lose the game gidp with one out bases loaded in the 9th.
/pessimism’d
And the stupid “smart fans” will still get mad.
Ehhh I’d get mad about that, too.
At the loss yeah, but I hate when people get mad at a guy who fails in the “clutch” yet good in the first six or seven innings.
Understandable.
Scarily correct so far!!
So according to that commercial, the weekly chats are live game blogs.
Hmmm.
YAY!!! CONEY!!!
David Cone still looks like Buster Keaton.
It will be interesting to see how they hit Carrasco. Offense has been weak the past few days and Carrasco pitched well last time.
Excellent Changeup! Uh oh
Being sarcastic.
Well, most players in baseball have trouble hitting changeups, so “uh oh” is understandable.
YES needs to make Coney, Leiter, Kenny, and Paulie permanent announcers. Flaherty shouldn’t have a job anywhere on TV.
NESN can have him
I think he had been with SNY?
Agree with you 1000%.
5 away!
Wow, same as yesterday.
5 to go
Jeterian hit.
Yea, that’s a hit.
#2,995 wooo
Hardest hit ball I’ve ever seen.
I didn’t realize the smart fans were also so witty too
What’s with the mention of smart fans tonight? Did something happen in another thread?
When I refer to the “smart fans” I mean fans that have an understanding of stats beyond the triple crown stats and World Series rings. There’s quite a few of them that have a strong dislike for Jeter. OH THE RANGE!!!!!!!! OH THE GIDPS!!!!!!!!!! He’s a shortstop that had an OBP of over .380 and a slugging over .460 for a decade…name ten other players who did that.
Oh okay.
I think the hate stems from his decline in the past 2 years, though.
Even when he was good there were “smart” fans that hated him. Around 2001 or so the “overrated” tag was applied to him. Perhaps by Tim McCarver and over-covered. Yeah, a top 75 player of all time is overrated…okay then. There was a lot of angst towards him during the SABR revolution when BP was still the authority in advanced stats.
Oh. I actually liked him in 2009 an he was my favorite whn I was little.
Now, though, not so much.
Oh look, a changeup
At least they won’t get no hit through the first 5+ innings.
Facing the guy he was traded for.
And strikes him out on 3 pitches.
No chance!!!!
easy inning.
Here’s my idea for needed “tweaks” to baseball:
DH in both leagues.
That is all.
better chance of robot umps than that. DH in the NL will never, ever happen.
I honestly can’t believe that the MLBPA hasn’t pushed for this. It would likely mean an increase in salary, since there would be a bunch of (presumably) veteran guys who’d have better chances to keep playing, and it would lessen, however slightly, the chances of pitchers getting injured.
It just makes too much sense, and of course that’s why it will never happen.
But that takes away the strategy?
/Cohen and Hernandez’d
The ASG shouldn’t “count”. Give home field advantage to the team with the best record.
Oh, yea, that’s a good one.
Yeah really. You want it to count? Every player on the winning team gets $500,000. That’ll make it more exciting in a hurry.
I don’t think it should count, make it a fun game for the players. Try to get the younger players more votes so they’ll start. I dunno, maybe add a rule that if you’ve started or appeared X amount of ASGs you can’t be on the ballot to start but added in by a managerial decision. I’m sure guys like Jason Heyward, Mike Stanton, Troy Tulowitzki, Asdrubral Cabrera and Justin Upton would love to start in an ASG.
My tweaks:
ASG doesn’t count, give home field to the league with the best record in interleague play.
No blackouts
Re-align the leagues. Move the Rays to the NL and move the Brewers to the ALC and the Indians to the ALE.
You have to go with Paul Konerko for the text poll.
Yep. At least the AL final vote isn’t as embarrassing as the NL final vote.
Yeah. Poor Andrew McCutchen.
him not being on there allowed me to vote for IPK without feeling bad.
This.
IPK is the only guy I could vote for on that list.
I mean, I hate the Phillies, so this can sound biased, but, even though Victorino is having a good year, how do you justify putting him on the ballot ahead of McCutchen?
You can’t. It’s all about popularity.
For the ballot itself? Then how the hell did Gordon, Jones and Zobrist end up on that list? I really want to know how they determine the last 5 candidates.
I want to know WHO decided the last 5 candidates.
Cocaine is a hell of a drug.
We know it wasn’t from ESPN. Otherwise the choices would be Lackey, Varitek, Scutaro, Jenks, and Lowrie.
This is what I’m saying!
Then I agree with you. It’s batshit insane.
I hate when players show bunts. Whatbis they get a meatball right down the middle? Such a waste.
I thought that strike look borderline.
I dunno about that 3-0
Mercy strike
lol at the 3-0 autostrike, that thing was almost in the other batter’s box
cervelli with bases loaded = money
Cervelli and Jeter with the bases loaded. Hmmm…
Cervelli with the bases loaded? Should be fun!
Dear Frankie,
Do NOT swing at the first pitch.
Love,
Mike
He really really wanted to.
probably send this same note to Jeter… but you know.
3kDJ and all
Bases loaded but these two clowns will manage to screw it up.
Did anyone read that article by Wallace Matthews about Arod during the Mets series with the Reyes nontag?
I thought it was pretty dumb.
I’d link it but I can’t find the article.
Yea actually read an article from The King of the Gloom-baggers?
You have a high tolerance for pain.
Time for some fist pump magic!
or bad fielding magic. whatever. I’ll take it.
Saved by the other catcher
Cervelli gets the job done again!!!
haha.
Lucky break.
Thank you Santana.
lol Indians, way to botch the tailor made double play
They must’ve been distracted by the fistpumps
Yankees caught a break there.
Jeter hit a homer!!!
A double is good.
A bit premature, eh?
typical jeter, his homers are actually doubles. the smart fans disapprove
JETER!!! the power!!
Jetes!
CAPTAINY!
Jeter!!!!!
EL CAPITAN
The Captain doing work. Now people will love him again.
He’s still a dick.
/Harry Doyle’d
Jeter with an XBH! YCPB!!!!!
Jeter!!! hit it out of the infield!
Good thing Santana can’t scoop like Teix.
I think that Joel Sherman Jeter bashing media tour today set him off.
This should be more than enough for CC.
Grandy!!!!
GRANDYMAN!!!!!!! oh yea
Alright, 3-0 lead with CC pitching, that should be a win.
Make it 5-0.
The Grandyman
She’s gone!
And boom goes the Granderson.
Grandy is dyn-o-mite!
I’m loving this inning!
GRANDY!!
Also lol the fan deflected it to an Indian fan
So about that power slump from Granderson. Yeah, that was just momentary.
Buster Keaton hit a HR.
The Grandy MAN!
Thanks for the candy Grandy!
Had the fan caught and pulled the ball foul, what would that be? HR with fan interference? Foul?
The difference between zero runs scored and five is a missed scoop/ bad throw. Crazy.
The difference between zero runs scored and
fivefour is amissed scoop/ bad throwmissed popup. Crazy./last night’d
I knew I should’ve kept Carrasco on my fantasy bench
They are teeing off on him now.
I’m no Indians fan, but Chief Wahoo is one of the coolest logos in baseball
Someone’s trolling.
He is such a happy looking fellow.
Let’s all thank Santana at first base – difference between no runs and 5 runs (so far).
the difference between good defense and bad defense.
SSS, not really, just a poor job scooping it. bad luck
Indeed.
Revenge for the popup not getting caught yesterday
time to fatten up those stats
this inning can only be summed by one phrase: “boom goes the dynamite”
He balks and gives up a hit at the same time.
Doesnt Tex go to 3rd?
UGHH. I wanted more.
(TWSS)
I liked that half inning.
I was starting to feel bad for the kid. I mean, I’ll take the five runs any day but I’m surprised they left him out there.
it’s funny, if santana catches the ball to complete the GIDP the score would be 1-0. payback for last night I guess
I think there was one out,so no runs would have scored.
Someone predicted baseball:
http://riveraveblues.com/2011/.....nt-2360166
Why does it seem like the yankees offense explodes on days CC is pitching and then won’t get the 3 or 4 runs for Freddy or AJ when they are pitching gems?
Maybe it’s because the Yankees offense has less pressure on them when CC is on the mound. That’s my guess.
It’s clearly because they like CC better. CC’s like a big teddy bear and AJ is a gutless head case.
And poor Freddy just hasn’t earned his True Yankee status as of yet.
And Bartolo played for the Red Sox and Angels which is unforgiveable.
It’s science.
In case you all were wondering, that thing with the pitch count happened during Swisher’s at bat. I saw 21 pitches and my mind automatically went “he’s going to throw at least 23 pitches”.
Offensive inning happened.
You’re welcome everyone.
Kearns beats us with his first HR on Monday and Jeets drives one to the wall in left center for a 2B tonight.
If you wait long enough….
I think that Jeter’s double is a good example of how he’s gonna keep his career going: start dropping the bathead and pulling pitches on the inner half. It’s clear that he doesn’t have the bat speed to get his hands inside those pitches anymore, but if he can learn to open up in those situations he’ll turn some of them into hits.
Of course, the fact that this particular double was on a pitch grooved right down the middle helps.
Does anybody else agree that it should be mandatory that everyone on the yankees should have to wear high socks and a huge handlebar mustache?
For some reason there ate some players who I really don’t think they could grow a mustache. Robertson and Peña for example. Although that might be a good thing. Mustaches are vile.
my face takes offense
Yeah, CC’s not gonna let Carrasco rest.
Why is he still in there, Michael? Because Acta doesn’t want to destroy his bullpen.
OMG, he just said “hooey.”
David Cone would have said a different word than “hooey”
hip hip
so nice not having to hate him anymore
How could you hate Jorge? He’s such a good guy.
He fits your standards of cuteness to like a player?
Of course!
funny, I always assumed Jorge was a dick.
He rolled his ankle.
Well this isn’t good for the AL next week.
Cord Phelps need to learn to get out of the way at second base, he’s gonna get wrecked on day like Nishioka
He needs to learn to not mess with the Gritster
Hal McRae vs. Willie Randolph in Game 2 of the 1977 ALCS.
Pitch was outside
It’s dumb that there’s different tiers of HOF (1st ballot, 2nd ballot) and that some voters will make sure no one is unanimous. Who the hell would say Jeter is not a HOFer? Or Greg Maddux, or Randy Johnson?
Where did this come from?
Oh, ha, just cause Kay mentioned that Jeter is a first ballot HOFer.
Oh, didn’t hear that.
Yea, don’t go looking for consistency with HOF voting. A bunch of guys you would think of as no-doubters had to wait several times to get elected.
And in terms of highest vote percentage, here is the top 10:
Tom Seaver
Nolan Ryan
Cal Ripken Jr.
Ty Cobb
George Brett
Hank Aaron
Tony Gwynn
Mike Schmidt
Johnny Bench
Steve Carlton
Are those the 10 best players in baseball history?
Who the hell would say Jeter is not a HOFer?
Does Joel Sherman get a vote?
How bout Shaughnessy?
But, really, Jeter has stuff that would appeal to everybody. He’s got incredible offense at a premium position, championships, no bad character complaints, and 3k hits and Gold Gloves for those into those type of things. And yet, someone won’t vote for him.
Peter Gammons
I doubt that. Gammons isn’t that stupid.
Someone won’t vote for him because there a couple of guys who just don’t vote for anyone because players like Ruth, Aaron, etc., weren’t unanimous.
Teix gets that and keeps the no hitter intact
There goes the perfect game.
Teixeira makes that play.
Tex would have made that play..
I don’t know why, but I don’t see Cano as the type of guy whose swing will be messed up by the home run derby. Even when he’s slumping it doesn’t seem like his swing’s the problem (it tends to be pitch selection.)
And for all the Bobby Abreu’s and David Wright’s, there is David Ortiz and Josh Hamilton
Jon Lester. 4 perfect innings. Leaves the game between innings.
“Jon Lester was taken out of the game after 4 no-hit innings. No word on what the injury is.”
oh lawd Boston is done for.
Now they only have 5 aces, the season’s over!
Its a blister according to reports.
And before anybody says anything, I Wasnt paying attention to the Red Sox game before this.
It doesn’t matter if you were. I was checking periodically the score.
Honestly, I don’t find anything wrong with paying attention to Boston. It’s not a big deal if you do it.
for what its worth, Sterling announced it. but still you can watch the Sox game too if you really want…
no big deal…
seriously, its cool…
I’m not watching…Just checking the score
what reports? I’m watching the game and the broadcasters have no news and Francona looks stricken.
That’s basically the status quo.
Nah, the status quo is Francoma looking bored
“Seems like the Yankees always take care of all the All-Star voting every year, so it’s just disappointing to not see more Red Sox on that team,” Boston ace Jon Lester said to Providence Eyewitness News.
All class.
hanging with Youk, Beckett and Pedroia is really rubbing off. What a little fucktard.
Because he’s a machine Mike.
Grandy!!!!!
Curtis FTW!!!!!
GRANDYMAN!!!!! ON FIYAH
Holy shit, this guy’s good.
Holy Shit! The Grandyman loves Cleveland!
yea Grandy!!! he’s on fire!
The Grandyman!
Don’t be so MEAN Curtis.
Hey Detroit, how’re Austin Jackson and Phil Coke working out for you?
Phil Coke was recently dropped from the rotation, right?
ajax and coke WAR 2.0
grandy man WAR 4.6
take it a step further
ajax coke AND ipk WAR 4.3
i <3 C-Grand!
Aaaaand, that’s one big reason why Teix’s BABIP is so low.
I loved that audible “FUCK!” from A-Rod after that groundout.
Castillo-esque
OrLOLndo Cabrerra
Jeter
ARod
Mariano Rivera
Chipper Jones
Not Jeter.
Thome and IRod.
They gave Cano a “double” on that play. Revenge is sweet.
Thoughts on the trivia question?
Off the top of my head I’m thinking Rivera, A-Rod, Chipper Jones, and Jim Thome. Dunno who the 5th would be…maybe Todd Helton?
Jeter
Jeter would be the 5th. Duh.
Jeter didn’t make the team that year, it was pudge rodriguez
Nope, IRod.
Haha, I would’ve guessed Pudge but frankly I forgot he was still in the MLB
the 2-1 pitch was a BS call by the ump.
Carrasco has been getting a lot of BS calls. And has still thrown 93 pitches through 4 innings.
That makes the offense that much more impressive
Yeah, and to think it all started with a botched tailor-made double play.
This fucken strike zone, that second to last pitch to Posada looked a foot outside, maybe it’s the camera angle. The umps wanted shorter games? Call more strikes…its a conspiracy!
Lester left his start in the 4th with an injury. Yay!
And for the 93rd consecutive season, Boston is the only team in the MLB to suffer any injuries. Hopefully that gritty little band of heroes can defy fate and win a title for America.
For MLB Network,
I’m Peter Gammons
For America!
The Red Sox are, after all, America’s team, according to Stephen King.
It is kind of funny how ARod, Jeter and Mo are the elder statesmen of this year’s ASG.
And that Chipper has only been there 7 times. Seems like a low number for him, especially when you see that Michael Young has also been there 7 times.
Might get a ‘peek’ at Katy Perry? That’s some poor word choice John.
don’t be so mean CC
CC is making these lefties look horrible
MIchael, A child doesnt care about that
Really, Kay’s worried about how to explain CC not being an all-star to a 4 year old?
How many more innings do we have left??
Coney’s mom agrees
Nunez grabs that and throws it over Posada’s head.
Nunez is just a generous guy, he’s always trying to give out souvenirs
CC is toying with them.
God I hate that drum…
I think it’s catchy.
It’s annoying. It also seems like it would distract the hiter.
It makes them happy…
David Cone’s mom is awesome
Coney’s mom calling out Kay LOL
Cone’s mom laying the smack down.
Even Cone’s mom can’t stand Kay. Great trick by Coney!
What happened? I missed it.
slider is disgusting today
CC didn’t even break a sweat…
CC not giving up a run tonight. He is throwin’ gas.
Do I even want to know why Red Sox fans call Pedroia “laser show”?
he ‘s been getting a lot of laser hair restoration treatment?
I think he gave the name to himself.
Which, surprisingly enough, only ranks as the 37th biggest reason why he’s a total fucking douchebag asshole.
http://www.urbandictionary.com.....ser%20show
What a prick.
nothing douchier than giving YOURSELF a nickname.
what an asshole.
Haha what are the other 36?
If anyone on the Yankees referred to himself as a laser show, everyone would make a huge ordeal of it.
Something a Mets fan would say if that happened: “The Yankees and their 200 million dollar payroll can afford laser beans. Figures.” Or something dumb like that.
alot of hair removal…
for real, bikini line is as smooth as a baby’s cheek.
-Terry Francona
I think that Brett Gardner is officially Cord Phelps’ nemesis.
Love watching gardy running with his head down.
Time for the hit and run.
I think they tried to, but Herrman couldn’t find the plate.
Brett the Jet
Good call
Brett the Jet
Gardy gettin’ it done.
Uhh what was Gardner doing there?
Tag up son!
And then the emptiness between the ears of Gardner….
Oh hush Gardner. Just because you lack aggressiveness in your play doesn’t mean there won’t be a 90+ stolen base season. Crawford or Ellsbury could very well post an abberation like that.
C’mon CC, don’t give them any life.
Grandy didn’t miss his 3rd homer by much on that 3-1 fastball
Dammit Granderson! How could you not get 3 homeruns in this game yet
Granderslump
/s
Oh come on CC
CC is just messing with us
See?
Lol I see what you guys mean about Gammmons loving Boston.
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/articl.....d=19365974
After the throw to nail Hunter, he was disappointed he didn’t get asked about the play.
Oh my God. If Arod ever said something like that, he’d be an attention seeking fraud.
So dumb.
and heal cancer kids and cure AIDS babys and find a cure for Hep-C. wow, what a literary blowjob Gammons can dole out when he’s really worked up…
wow. CC letting the easy ones go unscathed.
I look like David Cone. His mom agrees.
Yay for LHBs
This is Randy Johnsonesque dominants against these left hitters.
CC is just absolutely filthy.
fucking filthy, no runs for you.
but not an all star…
CC = Nasty
CC is a tank. The Cleveland Indians are only soldiers. And he’s ripping their arms off.
And the heat of the summer is waking up the old men.
Hes like Giambi with a better arm…
I think he’s Megatron, actually.
Curtis Granderson already earned that title when he hit his second home run.
CC is Shockwave? Galvatron?
Oooh, no, he’s UNICRON!!
Optimus Prime?
It’s like CC was getting bored out there, and put the first two guys on to motivate himself.
Oh CC.
Olney: “The Red Sox just announced that Jon Lester left the game with a left lat strain.”
that bad?
They have 4 more aces. No big deal.
Beckett, Lackey, Miller, Wakefield, Millwood
rotation of doom.
If that’s now their legit rotation for however long their injuries will last,
I think the Yankees have the better team on paper.
Hopefully it’s fatal.
It ‘aint good.
It’s better than a rotator cuff problem, but not what you want to hear about your lefthanded ace.
Doug Davis is available.
good thing they signed Millwood.
Teix going the other way as a lefty? madness.
why can’t he do that more?
He needs to do that more
Lester has a tweaked left lat muscle, per WCBS. Suzy Waldman kept saying ‘tweaked’… she was rather impressed with herself.
Wasn’t Feliciano initially diagnosed with a lat strain also?
Just sayin’
And cue the sympathy articles for the Red Sox from ESPN…
Title should read something like ‘Sox Will Have To Dig Deep Again To Overcome Injuries’
gag
Kevin Millwood to the rescue!
Little known fact: since 1918, the Red Sox are the only baseball team to suffer an injury.
Mike should be part of the RAB commercial wearing a Chicks dig Large sample size T-shirt.
I would KILL for that T-Shirt. well played, Mauer
No need to kill. $17 will suffice in the RAB store.
Woops, too late.
yeah… but $17 is so steep…
murder seems like the obvious choice here. plus you can beat that rap apparantly.
Casey Anthony approves this message
Cone, that was what I was thinking!
Hey the old men looked good on that play.
It’s the warm weather, I’m tellin’ ya.
Wow, that was vintage.
I didn’t think Jeter had a chance to get to that, lol.
Nunez would have thrown that to Cincinnati
Who says Jeter doesn’t have range?
‘smart’ fans?
wait, is that how we play this game? I’m so confused.
I don’t really know what that “smart fans” thing is about.
Wow nice range by Jeter
Now all we need is for Gonzalez to get injured and the Red Sox are in business.
Is it me, or has Kay become unbearable to listen to. Cone should duct tape his mouth, and proceed to discuss sabermetrics the rest of the game. This is how you torture Michael Kay.
False. You torture Michael Kay by endlessly discussing “baseball etiquette” while spoon-feeding him ketchup and mustard.
Over the course of an unmanageable 4 hour game, of course.
Comes and goes.
As to your question, I only find Kay unbearable when they put him in the booth alone with Flash.
If you think Kay is bad, listen to a few minutes of the Stephen A Smith show. Everything conversation ends up about racism.
It doesn’t count as a conversation if every word is screamed
I can’t understand why ESPN brought him back after they fired him the first time around.
What happened to the Granderson troll, the dude that wouldn’t shut up about how awful he was gonna be this year, a .200 average by now with 2-3 jacks…I miss him.
Like most trolls, bridge jumpers, and doomsayers, they disappear when the Yankees are playing well. After all, what’s the point of commenting if you’re not complaining about something?
They disappear or…get banned.
he’s now the guy blowing Nunez and Golson every other night (he alternates)
Ooooooh, Shotsfired at Monteroisdinero, who I think is around tonight.
FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT.
I thought it was to nunez fan
Eh, maybe it’s a combination of both, though I know monteroisdinero realllly likes Golson.
Golsonisdinero
I’ll have a Molson4Golson.
I’m a lover not a fighter.
not meant to throw Barbs, but we do spend an awful lot of time offering lip service to meh-level AAAA players on this site…
jus sayin
Josh Judy must have gotten his ass kicked growing up with that name.
you know his clubhouse nickname is “judge”
Ouch Coney
lol what the fuck posada?
Oh, Jorge
Oh Jorge, you’re so bad at running the bases.
Holy shit Posada sucks on the bases.
Jorgie, why so bad on the bases?
seriously, is there a worse baserunner in all of baseball? at least he is hitting now
I don’t think Stevie Wonder would be a worse baserunner than Posada.
How is it possible to be a major leaguer for 17 seasons, and still do shit like that?
Anybody know what that fake Mark Teixeira twitter account was? (the one with all the really bland tweets)
I could be remembering wrong, but I think that was it.
Nothing will ever be able to top the fake Michael Kay twitter.
WHO BUT!?
That was fake?
funny, I would assume Tex has nothing to Tweet but overly bland shit about living in Suburban Maryland, that wife of his, the kids scout troop, and whats on his TiVo when he gets back from the road trip…
#NOTaPartyAnimal
he lives in CT
You mean @faketeixeira?
Posada seems to screw up on the bases alot this year!
in all seriousness, i think i rather have gardner on first with one out instead of posada on second with an out
It’s not his fault. He’s just unhappy.
are we better off with Posada on second or Gardner on first with one out?
We are better off with Cervelli not batting.
Jorge Posada is…The Worst Baserunner in Baseball History.
“I don’t always get tagged out. But when I do, I prefer to make myself look completely fucking stupid.”
IETC.
He’s a reverse Cool Papa Bell: he can hit the light switch and make 3 outs on the bases before it gets dark.
LMFAOOOO….
clearly you haven’t seen the Ruben Rivera worst baserunning video…
BG stat padding. Learning from the best (ARod)
Gardner finally seems to be comfortable stealing
17/21 for gardy as he outruns the bezball.
Too close to call
Were they really just chanting “Jeter sucks”?
Stay classy Indians fans.
Don’t Yankees fans chant Boston sucks when they won championships in 2004 and 2007?
ya knew jeter was grounding out
Revoke Joyce’s All-Star status.
how’s that “legend of Sam Fuld” script going?
holy shit, I’m glad that wet dream is over.
Do you guys think Mike Adams will be a closer by the end of the year?
He’ll be traded somewhere else to set up.
I’m hoping he’ll be a Yankee
He’s actually older than Soriano. He’ll turn 33 on the 29th of this month.
Nice play by Swisher but he’s got an arm like a bitch.
infielders don’t need a glove to catch Swish’s bounce throws to a base. This would not happen with youknowwhooutthere.
I see what you did there.
Montero?
Ok-if Grandy hit 45-50 HR’s, is he still a #2 batter?
Not sure what your point is.
My point is it is a good problem to have when making out a lineup card in 2012.
Yes, I would agree with that.
I think their current lineup as constructed is the way to go, just swap Jeter and Gardner and insert Montero for Posada.
OK what would YOU do with him? Displace Cano? Move Tex or A-Rod (more traditional 3 & 4 hitters).
its literally either 2nd or 6th.
Gardner
Swisher
Cano
Arod
Tex
Grandy
Montero
Martin
Jeter
No real wrong answer. A lot can change from now until opening day 2012 though.
It would mean he’s on riods, just like Bautista!!!?!!!
The strikeout switch has turned on for CC in the last 3 starts.
Huh, and all this time I thought the Mendoza Line referred to the amount of times per game that Michael Kay reminds us that Ramiro Mendoza was really the key to the dynasty Yankees bullpen.
There are not many who can record both a shutout and a save in the same season.
In the era of 5 man rotations and 6 to 7 man bullpens, that is.
That of course is not to be confused with the Homer Bush Line, which signifies whether or not a pinch runner steals more than 6 bases (and is therefore the key to a championship)
ha, I thought the Homer Bush Line had something to do with personal grooming…
Homer was so awesome in 1998.
soooo 1300 people showed up to see the Best Team in the History of Foreverdom in Sports play in Cleveland.
The official PA announcement for tonights game? 30,100
In closing, go fuck yourself Boston.
Wait. what?
CC is FILTHY
Not fair, just not fair.
let’s say CC is at 115 after 8, think Joe let’s him go for the CGSO?
ummm. yikes.
6-0 game, doubtful.
unfortunately, no. it’ll probably be time for The Experience.
it just moved… I am that excited.
CC = Cruise Control
With 100 pitches, should he get the 8th?
yes.
Please yes. And give him the 9th too damnit!!!
I sure Girardi is dying to get Mitre in there so I doubt they let CC pitch a complete game.
Unfair.
CC is having the best stretch in his Yankees career lately. Strikeouts are way up and his stuff looks the best it ever has. It has been a pleasure to watch.
only first pitch fb’s (guessing right) are getting hit off CC tonight. They can’t touch him otherwise.
Sabathia’s going to win the Cy Young Award. You heard it here (probably not) first.
Yes, that means Verlander will fall off. This is based on nothing I’ve seen so far.
Grandy is unstoppable
CC is going strikeout crazy
Granderson at .279/.371/.599. So good. A fucking tank.
Megatron
I still say CC is Unicron.
We need to consult special kid about this.
Nah, I’m gonna call myself the resident Transformers expert.
A tad off topic, but doeds anyone else think it’s insane… INSANE!!!! to let Robbie miss a needed 3 days of rest to hit in the HR Derby? How many players has it fucked up? It’s one thing to want to play in the ASG… I get that. But the freaking HR Derby… for 2nd basemen????!!!!????
breathe dude. it’ll be OK
I think there’s not much evidence that the HR derby adversely affects hitters. Some do worse after, but is it because the HR derby?
Yep. I’m sure Papi picked him as an attempt to sabatoge the Yankees.
DAMN YUUUUUUUUU BOOSTOOOON!!
The grandy man can!
And this man ladies and gentleman is not on the 2011 All-Star roster.
Its MADNESS!!!
Well, Joey Bats and Paps made it interesting.
But Encarnacion gets nailed at the plate to end the game.
From June 12 (June 11th was hit last HR) until today, ARod hit .338/.400/.437. Definitely not enough power, but he’s been far from a liability in that stretch.
Yeah, there’s really no need to complain.
Oh, holy fucking shit, Encarnacion was FUCKING SAFE!!!!
NESN was screaming how out he was, and it was obvious he was safe in real time. Even on the replay the announcers refused to call him safe. What a bullshit game. Guess a replay would have taken too long there.
I thought I heard Remy say he “might have been” safe.
In real time, I didn’t think Varitek ever tagged him. With how badly the throw beat him, no way he was going to be called safe. Varitek had the plate blocked perfectly.
FWIW, the guy on MLBN started shouting right away on the first replay that he was safe.
After about 10 replays and Remy saying no doubt he was out, he finally said, he might have been safe but his right foot went over the bag. Just a terrible call and stubborn announcing.
Ump blew the call in the Red Sox game, Blue Jays should have won that.
Just watched it on slow mo about 5 times. No question he was safe. Then Remy after the benefit of replay showing him obviously safe says his right leg went over the plate. Give me a break. Ump is standing 1 ft away and blows the call.
Ribbie for Robbie
Cano’s quietly swinging the bat very, very well recently.
Robbie is on fire too
wow they are mashing Durbin (as expected I guess.)
LOL @ Cone saying “Yankees padding their stats”
8 run lead, do you pitch Pendleton, knowing he’s outta here in the AM?
i would give it a 100% chance
Chad Durbin’s one of those guys that you have to wonder how he’s got a job in the majors.
I mean, every team in baseball has someone in triple-A who can do better than this guy, right?
Red Sox game is of no consequence right now.
but aren’t you worried that this win will give them the momentum to win every game left in the season.
Not if we win every game left in the season.
/insanity vs. insanity
It’s still bullshit though.
I can’t see how this is an accurate statement. But I do agree that the Yankees game is by far the most important game to the Yankees’ season.
We control our own destiny right now. If we were behind the Red Sox, it would matter alot
Fair enough, though I mean “control our own destiny” basically says we know we’ll make the playoffs if we win every game. It’s probably unlikely we’ll do that, so it wouldn’t be too bad if the teams behind us lost a few here and there as well.
Two words: ROBOT UMPIRES
Coming back from a Yankee game Francesa was talking about robot umps and how if they allow replay robots will start playing the game. My friend called up and started talking about how if they allowed replay it would be the beginning of the Matrix or the Terminator. Could not stop laughing.
Fatcesa should never be taken seriously. But he gets the best prank calls ever on his show.
I wonder when Kevin Long is gonna get a chance to be a manager
I don’t see too many hitting coaches become managers, really.
Clint Hurdle took a team to the World Series and is doing good things with Pittsburgh.
But on the other hand you have Don Baylor who never had success as a manager.
DICKERSON time.
Yikes, Swish. That’s gonna cost you in WAR.
Uh oh…Ramiro is in the game, what will he do now?
Lonnie Chisenhall = really good.
Hahahaha Swisher took a Hideki Matsui route to that ball
Casey Anthony would have had that.
Should we get Mo up now.
First sight it looked like he was out. It looked like he spun around the bag
His left leg was blocked but his right leg spun around Varitek before Varitek got the tag down. Ump missed the right leg.
bring up montero
Did everybody text Jeter over Grandy and CC for player of the game?
Lol
Wait, people actually do that?
PANTS!!!!
Jeter can catch up to Shield’s changeup.
Is it time for The Experience yet?
why not ride pants to the ground? hes being demoted tomorrow
Just keep Pants in the game.
Awwww, but The Experience is so exiting!
He’ll be exiting when Soriano comes back. Presumably.
apparently nine runs isn’t enough protection to bring in The Experience
Is Kay fucking kidding. Jeter is lucky if he gets 4 hits in a week let alone in 1 game.
Kay milking the 3KDJ for all it’s worth. Think he has his “vintage” call for the ages all set to go?
I’m sure he and sterling have been practicing it for months.
Can we find a good long man anywhere>?
Pendleton is meat. He’s going back to AAA tomorrow.
Come on, Pants, don’t you want to go to Scranton?
enjoy your bus ride tomorrow, Pants
No shutout tonight. Lance on that midnight flight to Scranton.
flight? his ass can take the bus
Cue Gladys and the Pips.
Thanks for bailing me out Mo.
I can haz The Experience?
Pants is going to ruin the shutout.
Even the guys on espn said that encarnacion was safe
Yo, Pendleton — you’re delaying the post-game meal.
CC Safatass pitched a nice game.
I hope the scrubs don’t blow the shutout.
too late
there goes the shutout, fucking Pants.
God dammit Pants. I wanted a shutout.
At least he got an out?
I wanted a SHUTout.
/nitpicking
Posada threatened to take him over his knee and spank him if he didn’t throw strikes.
Kay’s call of hit 3000:
Derek Jeter has DONE it! A 3 bouncer ripped in front of Longoria who was unable to barehand it!
Cleveland fans are board
I know they’re wooden and all, but, really?
His marginal trade value is going down by the minute.
Any reason why Montero didn’t play tonight?
He was too bored
he has a sore back/side from being bored all the time
That guy face planting in the aisle is one of the four worst things I’ve ever seen.
Lonnie Chisenhall sounds like a ball player from the 20′s.
About time.
12 game winner with an era under 3
Not an allstar
Allstar game is a joke.
Ron Washington. Cocaine.
If this isn’t a case for robot umps I don’t know what is…

What’s the umpire not watching? Home plate, of course!
LMAO
Jeter was 2-6. That means he went 2-2 and 0-4 in the same night.
Or, he hit .333 for the game (SSS, I know). Or he had as many hits this game as any Yankee not named Granderson (and 2 RBIs). I don’t get the Jeter hate. If he does well, he helps the team. Isn’t that what we all want, the team winning games? I know it’s what I want.
