Game 139: Off their feet
ByYou know what the Yankees could use today? A nice big blowout. Big enough so that Freddy Garcia could go five and fly while some September call-ups mop up the last four innings. Big enough that both Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira can get off their banged up knees for a few innings. Big enough to get everyone off their feet. You know I mean, that kind of game. Here’s the starting nine…
Derek Jeter, SS
Curtis Granderson, CF
Mark Teixeira, 1B
Alex Rodriguez, 3B
Robinson Cano, 2B
Andruw Jones, RF
Russell Martin, C
Jesus Montero, DH
Brett Gardner, LF
Freddy Garcia, SP
It’s not raining in New York, but it looks like it might start at any minute. Apparently there’s enough of a window to get the game in, so hope for the best. They don’t need another doubleheader. Both YES and MLB Network will carry the game. Enjoy.

put swisher in for jones and you have the perfect lineup
Exactly. There’s no reason to have Jones in for swish since swish can hit from either side. And we all know Joe wants to give everyone a day off but its up in the air as to whether or not swish wanted to take ir
Exactly. There’s no reason to have Jones in for swish since swish can hit from either side. And we all know Joe wants to give everyone a day off but its up in the air as to whether or not swish wanted to take it
Damn, Gardy’s got ups.
It’s the grit. It gives him extra height on his jumps.
Hopefully they get this one in because it sure doesn’t look good for the next 2 days.
I’d like to see another sweep. The Orioles have forced us to play a game before we head out west and accused us of being disrespectful to Flanny. Rather than doing the logical thing like the Sox and As did to get ahead of the storm the Os made it as tough as possible for us and they need to get their asses kicked.
Yeah, really. I feel like the O’s have some sort of grudge agaisnt the Yankees… which sucks for them, because we kick their asses.
It must have been Showalter’s special time of the month when he made those comments.
O’s + Yankees + 2011 = rain
I mean, seriously.
True statement. It’s like the Orioles cause the universe to cry.
That’s disrespectful to Flanny, dammit!
Any day when Jesus Montero is in the Yankees’ starting lineup is a good day.
Jesus will stop the rain, I am confident of this.
Jesus playing today: me gusta
missing half this game because I have classes on Labor Day: no me gusta
That’s effed up, yo. (On the school’s part)
“There is no substitute for winning … Fuck these people!”
How long are they going to continue to use Jesus against only LHP? Historically he’s been better against righties. His last season in AAA was the only anomaly.
Well their development of Jesus hasn’t been predictable, but I bet that just lasts this year.
Jesus will hit his first homer today.
My fantasy team and I hope and think he will.
The NY Post mentioned today that Jesus’ power hasn’t shown up. Jeez it’s been THREE games.
And when he starts to hit them I’m sure they’ll say he hits too many.
Called it
3-1 Freddy needs to throw junk.
don’t do that again.
He’s got to get ahead of those hitters.
I feel like our guys need to go out there and mash the ball. Pad those stats.
Given that last stat, Matusz will have a 1-2-3 inning against us.
Really?
If you think about that stat, that is very hard to do.
Just not this one. A Teix Message!
So much for that…..
MT25 set to crush
90mph meatballs from Matusz look pretty hittable
Oh yay. A good start.
Matusz has been awful in limited time this year. The Yankees should pound him, but as John Sterling always says…..
And as I wrote this Mark Teixeira sent a Teix message
You’re on the Mark, Texeira
Boom.
Nice
Boom.
Love it.
Boy is Matusz broken. He was so highly touted. Man, the O’s have no luck with pitching prospects. They all suck, no matter how good they seemed.
He is a short-armer.. like Hughes.
ARod runs gingerly.
Yes he does.
Enough singles, I want a home run damnit!
You can never have too many singles. It multiplies our grit factor tenfold.
Patience, grasshopper. Jesus hasn’t come to bat yet.
Andruw Jones is this year’s version of Marcus Thames. But even better because Jones can play a passable outfield.
walk Martin, Jesus slam.
booo Martin swung at ball 4
Matusz had the first two outs on 6 pitches…and then the Yankees went to work, and got it to 28. When should we see the Oriole bullpen? 5th inning? 4th?
Freddy’s leaving balls up early. Not good.
Looks like it’s gonna be a slugfest.
yea garcia off speed stuff not sharp
It’s gonna look like BP today
Good thing Matusz sucks.
Cervelli would have made that play. Wait, what?
That looked like an AJ wild pitch. Freddy…don’t spend too much time with AJ!
I would think about the BP right now. Freddy doesnt seem to have it today.
Freddy getting rocked at the moment.
If we’re counting on this guy to be our #2 starter we’re in a bit of trouble. He can’t get anyone out and this is a last place club. AJ may pitch himself back into the playoff rotation.
1. He’s our number 3 starter.
2. He pitched well against this same ball club last week.
He just doesnt have it today.
One start. ONE START.
You sure love small sample sizes don’t you?
Just like this guy, who gave up 5 first inning runs to the crappy Royals.
http://www.baseball-reference......8240.shtml
He certainly wasn’t a number two starter that year, right?
Who’s the longman?
I don’t know, with Hector still down in the minors… Pants Lendleton maybe?
Yeah it’s probably Pants. But in a week it’ll be Burnett.
/Hoping A.J ends in the ‘pen’d
yanks giving up easy runs awful defense
Take him out please.
Shitty Freddy
Sheesh.
Well at least Freddy has an excuse for sweating today.
Get this bum out of there and bring in one of the AAA guys.
One start and this guy is a bum…lol
We might see Pants today.
No, Scott Proctor!!!!!
cut this crap out.
Thank god it’s Matusz on the mound.
Freddy’s not been good here, but he ain’t had much luck, either. Tex’s poor throw/decision, and a ball just eluding Jeter.
“a ball just eluding Jeter.” — not exactly a sign of horrific luck, that.
Freddy Garcia is no good because he’s allowing the Orioles, a last place team, to beat him up.
/Extremely small sample size’d
Maybe Freddy needs another two weeks off…
We will win behind the force that is known as Scott Proctor.
It was predictable. Freddy was leaving his pitches up right from the get go.
thats 4 run is unearned right
Time to put a hurtin’ on Matusz.
meh some bad pitches few lucky hits and some bad defense, 3 runs no biggie
Need to score this inning to keep pace. Especially with the threat of rain. Dont know if Garcia and Procter can hold them today.
I wanna see an oppo double for Jesus
But a walk is nice too.
Jesus Walks
I’m still waiting for him to make that his walk up music
he scared of jesus
And on the fourth day, Jesus received his first BB.
Good ab by Montero who cannot tie it up with nobody on base.
Really, Showalter is warming the bullpen?
It’s the 2nd inning dude!
Proctor should only pitch after Colon. Somewhere there is a good proctology joke there.
thats not even close
Ball 4 and a half.
Sometimes we see people dress up as the ghost of Babe Ruth. Personally, I want to see people attending the games dressed up as Jesus.
shitty umps are shitty
Jim Palmer just said “Has Jeter ever agreed on a called strike against him?”
Yea, I’m forced to listen to these douches every time the O’s play the Yankees. They’re just bitter that they belong to a worthless organization that has no light at the end of the tunnel.
should be 5 to 3 with nobody out, stupid ump
This Jeter guy’s not bad, I think he has a bright future in the MLB
Hanging slider and a half.
Jeter has just been amazing since the calf injury. Words can’t describe it.
09 Jeter
That’s a very good comp.
Jeter 2009: .334/.406/.465/.871
Jeter since his injury: .346/.396/.471/.868
He must have been doing some serious work during his long DL stint. I still can’t believe some people were calling him out for not being at Old Timer’s Day when he was in Tampa working to get back to the team as fast as he could.
Doing just fine without Minka.
a la Romo?
Montero needs a running coach-runs too straight up
Can’t turn left
/Bobby V’d
should be 5 to 5
fallacy of the predetermined outcome. but I agree, that pitch was waaaaay outside.
I now know how other teams feel when they face AJ. (most of the time)
The Grandyman!
Bad Brian Matusz is bad.
Curtis.
Rally started by the son of God
This one has 15-11 written all over it.
I need this weeks lotto numbers
And Matusz is gone. Buck really wants this game.
I’m just following on gameday. Was he pulled for an injury, or just a bad case of the ‘sucks’? It seems a little early in the game to give up on a starter.
He was bad, but they still had a one run lead.
One and 1/3rd? And you are 30+ games back? really?
Real quick hook on Matusz. But the poor guy didn’t have anything.
How does Buck expect Matusz to get better if he gives him the hook after 1 1/3 innings? Let him learn how to work through a bad start, it’s not like this game means anything to Baltimore anyway.
Buck will do anything to beat the Yankees, weather or not it’s good for the organization.
Even if it means completely burning out his bullpen.
they do have 10 relievers
And one good one.
Ump’s hunting strikes but the O’s pitchers still can’t take advantage.
Buck trying to recapture the magic of last September when the O’s closed to within 20.
Is it me or does Montero have a really goofy run?
He runs like my 3 year old nephew. Keeps his arms kinda low by his side.
I think he looks a little flatfooted.
Good thing he’s not being paid to run. He seems kind of Jorge-ish. Oh well, he IS a catcher.
With all that walking on water, I’m not surprised.
A power hitter projected any/all/one of as a catcher, 1b’man, or a DH will not be fleet of foot!
I’m still struggling with Granderson’s running style. Stiff upperbody as he breaks, almost robotic. Seems to work for him.
I see I’ve missed quite a pitcher’s duel the first two innings.
CBS says Proctor’s warming up in the bullpen, but I didn’t notice that in the broadcast. Is that true?
A-rod loves elbow pads.
Bases clearing double please.
He did that per instructions from Buck. That was for being disrespectful to Flanny.
Loading the bases for Cano is just about the worst case scenario for a pitcher.
Don’t ya know
The masn guys just said we need to be really concerned about arod, you guys.
Love it when MASN talks about things OTHER teams need to be conerned about, as if they couldn’t fill a 24-hour network with their own problems.
So…
if you were in the MLB amateur draft, and the O’s picked you, what would you do? I think I’d just reject them and give it another year.
This team is good at baseball.
Reply fail. This shouldn’t be here. The O’s are not good at baseball.
haha best reply fail of all time, that right thar
I’d ask for a shit ton of money and Carl Pavano my way out.
ROBBIE GO BOOM!
Damn what a bomb!
Robbie!!!!!!!!!!!
Dontcha know!
The Prince of the City
Holy shit…
MVP?
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEE YA! GRAND SLAM! ROBBIE CANO DONTCHA KNOW!!!!!!!
yeah, i didnt see that coming…
Not
A salami was kind of expected there, but that was… something else.
So good. So so good.
<3 Robbie.
CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC YA!
/Kay’d
Nails.
Ridiculous.
Boom.
Our lineup is scary good and deep. Scary.
Deep and thick.
Ron Jeremy couldn’t have said it better himself.
This kid Cano!!!!! Just wow!!!
Lock him up long-term tomorrow.
Why is YES showing a replay of the A’s game from two weeks ago?
Eat your heart out, Buck.
Suck it, Buck.
Look at Buck. He should just retire.
Yeah that was pretty much a fait accompli
Worst bases-loaded pitche sequence ever?
“It’s only Robbie, let’s give him 7 fastballs in a row, he can’t touch my 91 mph heat, right?”
lmfao
that was funny
Montero first jack…. calling it!
Strikeout but f it he started the rally
Great spot here for Jesus’s first MLB RBI. This is just AAA pitching, Jesus.
Martin has become so much better again since he started hitting some balls to the opposite field. Gotta wonder why he gets so pull happy since he clearly can hit the opposite way.
It took me a full five seconds to realize this game was STILL in the bottom of the 2nd.
LOVE IT.
jesus was bored after canos granny
Could see he was sitting curve
“That’s why I like whipping their butt. It’s great, knowing those guys with the $205 million payroll are saying, ‘How the hell are they beating us?’”
Montero couldn’t commit to that pitch until it was too late.
Is Montero going to be wearing 63 forever, or just for this September? Because that’s king of a lame number.
He needs to wear a number that would look good in Monument Park. Not 63.
Exactly. How about 18, or even 12?
I bet he would look great in 19. Too bad that number was already retired for all-time Yankee great Ramiro Pena.
6!
Yikes. They reserve that number for the sure-fire guys, the inner-circle guys. Montero’s great, but I’m not sure if he’s there. Some people say he might be, especially if he sticks at catcher.
FOR-EV-ER.
/Sandlot
He can’t wear 21. That’s Paulie’s # and will be retired someday.
Freddy Garcia can’t beat the Orioles! Inexceptable!!!!111!!!
nice inning, ouch montero
Montero looks like he could grow a mean mustache. I say he should go for it.
Did anyone notice cano clapping his hands while touching home plate by the way? I’m pretty sure that calls for an hbp.
What, they couldn’t bring in Jones from third with less than two outs? This team sucks with RISP. DFA Jesus and Gardy, those worthless bums.
Masn: Arod “limpingly makes the throw.” Wtf?
Jack Curry with the knowledge! And, come on, Fred, give us some innings here…
Get him out. He’s leaving pitches up.
bullpen time. Freddy’s got nothing today.
Man, this if Freddy’s worst start. Bullpen, please.
This is gonna be a repeat of that A’s game.
Take em out!
garcia doesnt have it today… take him out.
This game is gonna have a football score.
Freddy is ruining Jack Curry’s UZR report.
Yes proctor
Freddy’s gonna have to pitch better to be in the playoff rotation. Right now Burnett looks like the #4.
SSS’d
Umm no.
Yeah…no.
This is Garcia’s worst start of the season. Burnett does this every other time out.
LOL
Freddy is GREAT!!!!! he gives up 7 in 2&2/3rds in a game where we have 8 after 2 innings.
A savvy veteran knows when to not have his good stuff….
great slugfest today, I think the Yanks will win it 52-37 XD
Oh snap, Beckett’s hurt.
He’s on the short list of players that I laugh when that happens. So, LOL
What does it look like.
bruised vagina
I shouldn’t have laughed at that. But I did.
Foot/Ankle/Leg
All three? Was he caught in a thresher?
We can only hope.
Ooop posted way after you sorry. Fuck Beckett.
Poor team, they battle so hard against those injuries.
Did I hear right!!!
Scott Proctor???
Get the f out of here, ha
Let Proctor throw 4-5 innings, run his arm into the ground just like old times.
Off a brand name!
that jesus k is looming large now
seriously? in the second inning?
Only you. Seriously, only you.
Jack Curry said Dellin Betances is getting a call up!!!
Niiiiiiiccceeeeeee
really? Let’s see if he can walk more batters than anybody did before, shouldn’t be too hard for him
Keep him and AJ separated!
Under their reasoning, they should also be calling up Brackman, since he’s already on the 40-man.
Proctor gets the job done.
Sweaty Freddie just didn’t have it.
Scott Proctor again??? Hope you guys are happy now. Hahaha!!!
Why is it such a big deal that Jeter knows it was Hudson’s first hit? Kay says the stupidest shit.
Wow just got in to see the ghost of Scott Proctor pitch. At least we scored many runs in Freddy’s bad outing.
Josh Beckett just got injured
Any word on how?
No idea. Just threw a pitch and Varitek called for the trainer.
Standing up from the bench, pulled every muscle in his body.
Maybe that giant chip on his shoulder fell off and fractured his foot.
lol
jeter killed that ball
Jeter is vintage 2009 now.
Was Minka really worth it?
he got laid and the Yanks got screwed.
Ha, but they started dating in late 2008. The 2009 season was their first full one together.
Perhaps Derek just needs to change it up every few years. He did seem to date her longer than anyone else.
Change is good!
For those getting on Freddy, every pitcher on our staff has had a game where they got bombed. CC vs the Sox, Colon vs the Jays, Hughes vs the As, Nova vs the Royals, and AJ the month of August. He just didn’t have the splitter or breaking ball that he relies so heavily on, should be better next start.
This. Freddy’s been amazingly consistent this season – nothing spectacular, nothing terrible. This is a huge outlier.
I really haven’t seen many getting on him. I expected more of these types of games when they signed him, so I’m surprised how rarely this has happened. He’s a righty throwing 88 mph. If he’s off, it can be nasty!
Needed to score more runs. I dont trust Procter.
Gotta love how Kay calls that “doing research.” If he actually sat there and counted by hand, that doesn’t say good things about YES’s research tools.
I just noticed that gameday Jason Varitek doesn’t have a C on his uniform. ESPN will be all over the Gameday crew.
Mike Mussina
Good guess. Tricky question since people, myself included, will think of position players.
It’s similar to the question who is the last switch-hitter to win the AL MVP award. While most people get stuck thinking of players like Eddie Murray, the answer is Vida Blue.
Mussina?
Oh Moose, I miss you.
What does Michael mean by “put that in quotes”? Does he really think Torre didn’t run Proctor into the ground?
Is Kay seriously defending Torre?
In the office or on the field, it’s always the worker’s fault.
Happy Labor Day!
That was Proctorific
They’re making it sound as if it’s Proctor’s fault he was abused. It’ up to the manager not to pitch the guy every day just because he says he can pitch every day.
“Ellsbury reached on a double play, Scutaro out at third, Ellsbury out at second.”
I gotta check out the replay on MLB.tv.
My guess is Scutaro got in a rundown and was tagged out, and then Ellsbury was thrown out trying to go to second.
He hit a sharp one hopper stabbed by the pitcher who caught Scutaro off second-ran at him and he was tagged out in a rundown and Ellsbury was thrown out trying to get to second.
lol Proctor left Swish hangin’
Good inning by DoctorProctor.
ARod cannot run.
Need more runs.
Does anyone else have an irrational liking of Scott Proctor. Love that guy.
Proctologist is str8 dealin right now…
Until he give up the HR to Andino…FML. I am gonna keep my trap shut from here on
Jeff Passan
Love the Yankees fans’ defensiveness. Comes down to this. Whose rotation would you take: NYY, BOS, TEX/LAA or DET? For me, Yanks’ is worst.
Straight trolling.
LAA > NYY = DET > BOS > TEX.
LAA > BOS > NY = DET > Tex
This.
I’d make the Over/under 11 for number of pitchers used today.
Gotta love expanded roster baseball.
Ankle sprain for Beckett.
Sounds bad.
Not bad enough.
I wish his ankle fell off, then exploded in nuclear fire.
Don’t worry, I’m sure there’s some ketchup in the clubhouse he can put on his sock. He’ll be back out on the field in no time.
Good thing they got all that pitching depth…. Oh wait. Andrew Miller, Wakefield and Doubrount look worse that AJ Freddy and Colon, don’t it…
This is a straight up Ughfest.
Andino? come on…
Had to score more runs
This just in Proctor still suxity
Nice moves girardi…wait no
Come on now. Be serious. What was he supposed to do?
Take out Garcia earlier or not use scott proctor in a ONE run game.
Just like Buck Showalter did to Matusz? How did that work out?
Because that didn’t work out, it doesn’t mean the result would have been the same. Proctor in a 3 run game i would not mind as much as him in a close game.
who else do you want pitching in the third inning? If you go to the pen that early, you have to use some shitty pitchers, and he gave up 1 run in 2 innings, not exactly horrible. If they lose this game, it will have nothing to do with the fact that Scott Proctor was brought into a one run game
I had a strong feeling that Andino was gonna do that
Aaron Laffey? This game ain’t over! What the hell is he doing?
Lefty matchup. And a rookie lefty at that.
Bring in Laffey to face this guy? wow.
On the other hand, this may be the only guy Laffey can get out.
using Proctor and Laffey in the same inning is….
discouraging.
I want to see Delin up for the boston series if nothing other than throwing at big poopy.
He Has Risen
Jesus saves!!!!!
HOME RUN JESUS!!!!!!
JESUS HITS!!!!!!!! A HOME RUN!!!!!!
MONTY! Quick whats Sterlings call?
Hay-soos is loose!! was Sterlings call
Shitty
He had years to come up with something and that’s what he brought to the party…

“It is GONE! Oh, Suzyn, HE IS RISEN!!! THE MESSIANIC MASHER HITS HIS VERY FIRST HOME RUN! One of HUNDREDS to come!!!”
Jesus is looose
JEEEEEEEEEEEESUS!!!!!!!!!!!
Jesus Montero knows how to count to ten.
Jesus!!!!!!!!!!!
Jesus hits one to heaven
Jesus saves
Jesus, I have seen the light!!
Anyone know what Sterling said??
HE HAS RISEN HE HAS RISEN HE HAS RISEN HE HAS RISEN
hell yea!!
More of those to come!
TEH POWER
Thats mah boy
Said this the other day, but it seems like every single light hitter in the league loves hitting homers at YS3.
Andino, in particular, in a multiple time offender.
Montero! What did sterling say?
Nice and easy. Get used to seeing those opposite-field shots.
This. He is a guy who will homer deep to left on offspeed stuff and deep to right on hard stuff.
I give Sterling permission to avoid the religious overtones.
Montero is dinero!!!!!
Go baby Jesus!
Damn that was deep the other way
He didn’t hit that pitch, he beasted it.
Addison still doesn’t think that ball left the infield.
He put an absolute charge into that one… Not a cheap one, tell you what.
Only 755 go Jesus.
Nice work Montero.
Jesus Rakes
Jesus Is loose?
That sucks.
was that the call?
Dreadful.
All the possibilities and then… poop.
Damn. I think he wanted to keep it secular
He should’ve gone Jules Winnfield with it: “And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee.”
Hopefully Sterling doesn’t stay wedded to his initial calls and will change them. That is pretty weak for a player who should be hitting quite a few bombs.
He probably wanted to avoid religious overtones.
That doesn’t mean he can’t do better.
Montero is Dinero
second’ed
Has any right handed hitter hit a ball into the second deck in rf in YS?
Jesus will.
Come on… Who makes that behind the back catch… BABIP gods frowned upon us…
what a shot by jesus
My life is now complete.
First of many, congratulations Jesus.
Montero is an animal. That was the first of many. When he hit that, I just jumped and cheered like none other before that was even gone. It was an obvious HR off the bat.
Jesus Crushed!
Smh fuck I missed his hr
You’ll see plenty of replays. High fb middle of plate.
Sterling will need to do better-this ain’t no rare event.
What was the call?
I didn’t hear it but up above someone said it was: Jesus is loose.
Terrible.
Go with Montero es dinero!
Yea there will be a ton of replys. I agree John needs a better call. “Jesus is loose.”
How long did it take for him to come up with that gem.
Aaron Laffey is gonna ruin it for Jesus.
get him out of there!!!!
Gotta save Laffey for the start on Thursday in Baltimore. lol
Here comes Ayala
I think I trust Proctor and Laffey more in a one run game
glad Luis proved me wrong
Jesus is gonna have to win it with another homer.
Glad he hit it off a righty to be a Binder buster for Joe G.
Does the fan get the ball back to Montero for some dinero?
my asking price would be eternal salvation in exchange for the ball
more valuable than legend seats in the WS? tough call
Damn! I missed Jesus’ first at-bat, and now his first home run.
Ayala was just saved by Vlad’s rediculous impatience. That was a ball right there.
Ay-Ay-Ayalla!
I still can’t trust Ayala.
I FUCKING MISSED JESUS’ FIRST HOME RUN.
Up and in to Tex
Did he clap after his first inning homer or something?
He disrespected Flanny.
I hate life, I missed his first big league home run. Fuck everything.
There will be more where that come from.
I missed it too dam it. They gave him a curtain call. Watching the smile on his face brought tears to my eyes. Go Jesus!
cano hit that well bad break there. johnson got some good stuff
Is Cano slower than I think, or does he stop runing on those plays? That’s the second or third time recently there’s been a deflected ball on which a backup infielder makes a play, and, each time, Cano hasn’t even made it a contest.
He jogs when he hits weak grounders to the right side.
he doesn’t run hard out of the box if he expects the play to be made
another bb can’t afford those
Beautiful turn
Is the quality part of the bullpen unavailable right now? We’re in the 7th; that’s when Joe usually starts running out the best guys…i.e., not Ayala.
Soriano, Robertson, and Mo have worked quite a bit in the last week. They could use a breather.
Hey Ayala just pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief and has a 1.90 ERA. Better to be lucky than good.
Soriano has pitched in 5 of last 7 days, and Robertson pitched 2 innings on Sat.
I’m guessing at least Soriano is unavailable, possibly Robertson as well
beauty dp, roberston and mo time
god dammit I got to class for an hour and half and I miss a Cano grand slam and Jesus’ first HR
fml.
You have class on Labor Day?
yea, we have class on labor day every year, never figured out why. it’s bullshit.
Do you go to Vanderbilt by any chance? I went there and always had class on Labor Day. They told us it was the school’s robber-baron namesake that was to blame.
not pinch hitting here
Kay is such a hypocrite. He uses the W-L record when it suits him, says record doesn’t matter in the case of Fister and Colon.
He’s also stupid.
.333 average and a .429 OBP. One day he’ll have those numbers in a season’s worth of plate appearances….I hope.
Wonder Boy bat breaks.
…go pick me out a winner, Bobby.
And he did.
He did it again!
JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JESUS OH MY GOD!
SHE’S GONE!!!!!!!! JESUS!!!!!!!!!
Holy Jesus!!!!!
Holy Shit! Jesus es en fuego!
HOLY SHIT MONTERO
Jesus has risen!
Oh come on…. Montero has fucking arrived.
HOLY FUCK!!!!!!!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Count to ten!
HALLELUJAH
The man has arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This game is officially awesome.
(as if it already wasn’t)
So good! So good!
monstero
WOW….Wasn’t overly impressed his first night up. But now, could be interesting.
/ oaktag
Sweet Jesus!!!!!!
I missed his first homer while I was out running an errand. He kindly arranged an encore.
Thank you Jesus for letting me see one live, my prayers have been answered.
lmao jim johnson consider yourself OWNED
Thats mah boy!!!
well now he’s just bored.
I’m a Jesus Freak! Sterling revise his call?
If this guy is traded I will cry for months.
Can’t hit righties that well….
And those aren’t cheapies folks.
WOW!
Jesus Montero is going to make a good living off Orioles pitching for his career.
Both homers off of righties, right? They’ve gotta start him tomorrow.
Gonna need a bigger stadium.
Nothing can hold the Jesus.
Small correction. It is “Jesus has turned loose.”, “Jesus is loose” is more of a comment on his social life.
Hahahahaaha what a beast
Now about this batting order. can we just switch Montero and ARod?
or Tex?
It’s not in the binder so no
Effortless power… and Girardi’s got him platooning against lefties
Finally not bored.
Jesus to playoff roster. Fuck SSS in this case.
Apparently Jesus hates when someone breaks his bat. Sweeet.
So upset he wouldn’t even let the bat boy bring him a new one. He went and got it himself.
way to go jesus, he’s going to make the september run very fun to watch
I’m thinking Shane Spencer…with of course a better future.
Joe G now has to reassess the binder section on platooning Montero’s bat.
Many people said well what if they bring up Jesus and he struggles? A lot of us knew that he wouldn’t with the power he has. And they let this kid waste away down in the minors all year. He’ll be on the postseason roster and is our DH vs lefties.
Yet both his hrs came off righties, albeit the same guy. The only reason I see for platooning Jesus is to give some of the veteran guys a chance to play as well, which isn’t a bad idea.
RAB- I’ll take 6 of those “Jesus is coming” t-shirts.
Too lat for that, he just came. TWSS, I know.
So did I <3
Wonder: Does Jesus shave?
Fact: Hair has to ask permission from Jesus before its allowed to grow on his face.
Je-SUS…is on the LOOSE!!
HE HAS RISEN!!!
Can I contact Sterling and tell him to change it to Monteroisdinero? I mean having to listen to Jesus is turned loose 7-800x is gonna be painful.
Sterling won’t live that long.
10 more years? lol
Jesus Montero. Good at baseball.
Montero is freakin awesome.
See what we could’ve had in May if would have just went through with your threat to retire, Jorge?!?!? UGH!
/obligatoryposadacomment
This is true but not the way it works in Yankeeland.
In all seriousness, the sentiment shown toward this Posada this season has been disgusting.
…a lot of bad Montero ABs. Montero’s SLG against righties is .398 in the minors this year.
As he did last year, he got stronger the second half.
Let’s hope that’s not a career trend.
Jesus makes the sun come out from behind the clouds.
+99
Haha Markakis
just like they planned it
That’s one way for Boone to get the lefty out.
Flanny thinks that Markaikis was safe.
the ump disagreeing with the O’s 3rd base coach is disrespectful to Flanny
Golson please?
Golson>>>>>>Dickerson
They both suck equally.
I know your opinion of Golson Mike but he is a better fielder than Dickerson.
Dickerson’s better. There’s a reason Golson is the sixth Yankee OFer.
The reason has to do with his bat. He is 25 and a first round draft pick out of hs. The Phillies saw something in him. I would say he is our 2nd or 3rd best outfielder defensively. I have seen him plenty (just like I’ve seen Montero/Nova/Nunez in Scranton and ST. He’s made some unbelievable throws from the outfield to nail runners.
Its disrespectful to the memory of Flanny to call Markakis out. Expect a grievance with MLB.
Imagine if we had traded Jesus for (as speculated) either Halladay, Lee, Greinke, Haren, Jimenez…or Wandy…..we would’ve never gotten to experience Jesus-mania!!!!
Maybe, just maybe, Cashman knew exactly what he has in Montero. Thank you, Cash. This kid is the real deal with the bat.
Don’t tell that to all the guys on this site (you know who you are) who would’ve dealt Montero, Betances and Nova for Ubaldo.
I would have done the trade, but I believe I said I’d only deal two of those four (adding Banuelos to the mix).
I did you a favor and wrote up your comment for when Montero goes 0-5 with 3 K’s
“Imagine if we had traded Jesus for (as speculated) either Halladay, Lee, Greinke, Haren, Jimenez…or Wandy…..we would’ve never had to suffer through his at-bats!!!!”
Maybe, just maybe, Cashman is not as good as people think he is. Thanks a lot, Cash. This kid is overrated.”
Not directing this at you, but just saying.
All that while Ubaldo puts up a 6 ERA with the Indians.
Have at it. Jesus won’t have days like this everyday. But the energy alone that he’s put into the lineup is impressive. Everyone has had bad days. Didn’t A-Gon just have 3Ks vs. us recently???
Something about rooting for a true Yankee homegrown talent to be given the chance to succeed really does it for me. Which is why I’m thrilled watching Cano, Nova, Gardner, Robertson, Nunez, and now Montero given the opportunity to shine.
Indeed. A fb up and a fb down for 2 opposite field bombs.
Priceless.
I’d still do it for Halladay, Greinke or Haren. But maybe just one or two of them.
Halladay sure, I dont think anyone would disagree with that, but Greinke (those anxiety issues) and Haren (fades second half if I recall) had enough “potential” issues, at the time, that I wouldn’t. Plus, I just rather see homegrown player so that shifts the scale in the other direction.
Yeah… no. Facts > bullshit.
And it’s also a fact that neither Grienke or Haren got a prospect on the caliber of Jesus.
I love Montero and I’m psyched to see him succeeding early in his big league career.
But let’s not let these 2 homers overshadow how badly we could use a pitcher of Halladay or Haren’s caliber (I’m leaving Greinke out of it because nobody knows if he could deal with NYC.) Hell, our #2 starter got bombed by Baltimore today.
TL,DR: I’m happy that we have Montero but I’d have no problem moving him for the right pitcher.
Yes we need pitching, but how about we just promote our own pitchers from within? Let them pitch. Succeed or fail. We have a ton of MLB level talent ready to contribute, yet they never get the call. I’d have much rather seen Hector Noesi, Adam Warren or even Brackman called up, rather than Scott Proctor.
I’m okay with not bringing Banuelos or Betances up just yet. However, if anything, what Nova has shown is that, given the chance, we have talented arms in the system who can contribute to the team.
My thing is, rather than going after every big SP around MLB, how about we just grow our own???? I mean, given the chance, Ian Kennedy is becoming a big name. Ivan Nova is making a name for himself. While all of the hype was on Joba and Hughes, David Robertson has made a name for himself.
We can figure out how to play Montero going forward, be it fulltime DH, but also out backup C and 1B, providing a defensive break for Martin and Tex periodically. I’m just happy to finally see him get the opportunity in pinstripes in the Bronx, and doing what everyone knew he was capable of doing.
One last thing, other than Banuelos, do we even have any other LHP with promise in the pipeline? I know the pipeline is overwhelmingly righty-heavy. Just asking. You would think there’d be more, considering Yankee Stadium, and the fact that we’ve been deficient in that area since Stanton left.
I’d still trade Montero for Halladay or Haren.
So how many players in baseball history hit their first two HR’s in the same game?
monteros OPS vs right handed pitching 2.100
Minny Miguel.
Montero should have been up here months ago
He had an attitude problem and was bored in SWB. Why should the Yankees reward that type of behavior?
/meme’d
there were 13M reasons why he wasn’t.
/Posada’s dinero.
Can they get Jesus one more AB today?
Troy Patton: The kid you hated in high school
DEEP TO LEFT!!
Kay had a Sterling moment
Yeah, and when Cano hit his grandslam, everyone knew it was out off the bat, but Kay was slightly casual at the start.
He’s gotten much worse on his OF fly-ball calls, be they HRs or short (sometimes way short) of going out.
I heart montero
Yankees did OK without him, but now…
Tex hits pop-up
Michael Kay announces: “Deep to left”
I thought Sterling was bad, but Kay’s got him beat this year
At least we can see it with our eyes while watching the YES broadcast. That guy Sterling gives me anxiety attacks.
LOL….That guy!!!
Monetro says: “I’m not Spencer!”
Montero says: “I’m not Spencer!”
Pshh.. Cano struck out on purpose cause he didn’t want Montero to get another at bat and one up his Grand Slam.
Montero getting ready for his closeup with Kim and Suzyn.
Lucky guy.
Looking forward to seeing Kontos. He’s had a very good year at AAA.
2007 flashback…..Scott Proctor!
and the player of the game will be none other than the HOLY ONE, if the yankees win of course.
O’s hurt Mo more than the Red Sox btw.
Kinda weird.
Mo also saves.
end this Mo. wtf?
The magical strikezone
THIS IS INSANE.
HOLY SHIT
Bottom 10 in Toronto-no score.
Martin just doesn’t know how to elevate a pitch or anything.
It’s really annoying.
Wait… is this serious…
You don’t set up in the same spot over and over. He down and in or down and away. Watch Cervelli next time he catches Mo.
Ha.
Elevate a pitch and it might land over the fence.
He elevated strike 2 to Hardy pretty damn nicely.
Mo is considering letting Montero end the game with a walk off.
Nix that. That double steal pissed God off.
This isn’t good.
What…
No Mo! End this!
what is happening
did mo give his powers to jesus
Shut it down already, Mo. Jesus, and I don’t mean Montero.
WWWMW part deux
Mo way off.
Current course and speed, Jesus may need to bail out heavenly Mo.
Wait.. Wtf????
Didn’t we already have WWWMW?
No buenos Dias
Preserve the Yankees Classic…
Come on Martin call for a cutter up damn man.
These O’s are irritating the hell out of me.
Just came around… What happened to Garcia? Should I be frightened and could it be indicative of future playoff performances?
Today was a day for hitters
Just hope it isn’t. I was never sold on him being the number two of this staff but as a number 4 we shouldn’t worry.
Just a very flat outing for both starters. Freddy should be fine.
Phew, alright.
Mo saves.
That……. Was dicey
Yesss!!! And I don’t mean the network.
Mo! and breath.
mo would not spoil his only sons day
W!!!!!!!!!
BABIP hated mo this outing
Keep running Showalter. Mariano is just the best. Yanks win!!!
wooo!!! Yankees win!
Ugly game, yet there’s a pretty good chance years hence this will appear reguarly on YES’ Yankees Classics.
Now all we need is a walkoff in Toronto.
I’d like to thank Jesus for this victory.
Cano says Hi.
Jesus started the rally.
He keeps thanking Mo. What a great father son relationship.
+1
Win the ballgame, Bautista and put us up 3 in the loss column.
Jose Bautista vs Pap with 2 on.
Come on Joey Bats.
I was pulling for Joey Bats too…
He walked..
The whole crowd seemed to groan after he walked. Haha.
Bases loaded two outs. Papelbum on the mound vs Lind for the ballgame.
Fuck you Adam Lind.
Lind looked like a fool getting blown away 3 straight times.
3 pitches out of the zone also.
Adam fucking Lind strikes out to end the rally.
The O’s have been a pain in the #@! to Mo this year. Two of his five blown saves have been against them.
Jesus Montero is the first 21-year-old to homer twice in one of his first five games since Manny Ramirez
Minnie Manny Cabrera
TORONTO WINS!!!!!!!!! WALK OFF HOME RUN!!!!! YANKS UP BY 3 GAMES!!!!
Lawrie!
Brett Mothafuckin’ Lawrie.
Brett fucking Lawrie
I might have to reconsider my feelings about Brett Lawrie.
man i wish mlb.com would show the replay of montero’s 2nd homer, but for now i will be content with watching the replay of his 1st and getting goosebumps every time he comes out of the dugout for an encore!
The archived game is up for .TV subscribers.
Just caught it on the MLB Network highlights.
I know it’s really, really, early in his career, but Lawrie looks like a star in the making.
And the best young hitter in the AL East who was just called up has helped the Yankees to a three-game lead in the loss column today over the Red Sox.
I’m talking about Brett Lawrie’s game-winning HR against the Sox!
You might be on the wrong site, esp. today. LOL!!!
The Jays have some good players and the making of a good team: Lawrie, Yunel, Bautista, Rasmus, Arencibia…their pitching’s pretty legit too.
May they win their next two games. Sox lose and Beckett goes down the same day Jesus hits his first two. An enjoyable day.
Now that folks have seen Jesus give-soon you shall see him receive.
He will do well in that as well.
Does anyone have a link to Montero’s second homer
not uploaded yet.
It’s on Yesnetwork.com now.
Montero does have tremendous opposite field power but his power to all fields is impressive. I have seen him crush a few to deep left center that were breathtaking.
Arod looked immobile today. Glad we have up and coming right-sided power to take over in 2014/15/16 etc.
Immobile? what?
Should have said his mobility looked decreased. He didn’t run well and his lateral movement fielding was poor.
Praise the lord!
