IFA: Yankees sign Alvaro Noriega for $175k
ByVia the Dominican Prospect League, the Yankees have signed 16-year-old Colombia catcher Alvaro Noriega for $175k. He was supposedly the best catching prospect in the league this season, showing “major improvement in blocking, receiving and throwing accuracy behind the dish. ” At the plate, the 6-foot-1, 180 pounder is said to make good contact from gap-to-gap with occasional power. The Yankees have been hoarding catching prospects for years now, which isn’t a bad thing given the position scarcity.





Well, call him up.

Of course that means eveyone on their protected list during Rule 5 may as well be catchers, also.

… Well at least the Yankees won’t have to question the catching position until the next decade if they chose to.
If the yankees take all the good catching prospects then maybe one of them will turn out as good as larvanway!
That would be impossible. But maybe if the Yankees were to stockpile a dozen or so top rated catching prospects, they could package them all and throw in the three “B”s and trade for Larvanway — although I’m sure Gammons, ESPN, and most of the other prospect experts would consider that to be a lopsided trade in favor of the Yankees. We can always dream…
