CoJo’s slump continues in the AzFL

If you’re curious about what goes on in Extended Spraining Training and Instructional League, give today’s Baseball Today podcast listen. Keith Law talks about the two leagues at length, starting around the 34-minute mark. He also spoke about winter ball briefly.

Here’s some more info on Francisco Gil’s 50-game suspension. He got busted for Sibutramine, a performance-enhancing substance.

AzFL Phoenix Desert Dogs (7-6 loss to Peoria) Monday’s game

AzFL Phoenix Desert Dogs (3-2 loss to Peoria) Tuesday’s game

People had previously thought the same thing about Nova and Noesi. Nova is probably a #2 starter now and Noesi looks like he is ready to make a big jump as well. And, even if both amount to only a #5 starter or long man, if I remember correctly, those are 2 spots that are needed on every team. We could do worse.

Will Corban Joseph be in AA or AAA next year? I just saw Russo still has 1 year left and he started at 2B in AAA most of last year. Also, will Russo ever get another chance in NY? I feel like he could be our Hairston/Keppinger type player if given the chance. He plays some OF which is a plus. He adds more value to the team then Pena because you already have Nunez to back up SS. Based on Russo’s minor league stats I could see him hitting .265/.325/.350 type line if given the AB’s at 2B,3B,LF when needed. He isn’t great but is valuable because or his versatility. Do offseason trades maybe involving Laird,Nunez or Joseph affect his chances?

CoJo should be headed to AAA next year, he’s ready. The Yankees tried trading Kevin Russo in Spring Training, so I doubt he gets another chance unless it’s an extreme emergency.

UConn alum Mike Olt is killing it in the AFL thus far. .400/.550/1.200/1.750. Boom.

I wonder how many major leaguers are still using PEDs. It is like the 80s with descramblers. While manufacturers were building a foolproof machine, the crooks were already constructing the answer. I should like very much to see that 2003 list. I’ll bet we would find lots of surprises there. Even if published then the players would ask to be shown what was found as per David Ortiz who to this day denies that he used.
