Okajima fails physical, will not be in camp with Yankees
ByVia David Waldstein, left-hander Hideki Okajima has failed his physical and will not be in camp with the Yankees. His minor league deal technically won’t be voided just because it never became official. It was pending the physical, so the agreement is off. If the Yankees want to carry a second lefty in the bullpen this year, the Spring Training competition is down to Mike O’Connor and Rule 5 Draft pick Cesar Cabral (the team’s #29 prospect).

I’m still not sure I understand why the Yankees need a second lefty.
League rules. They take away the trophy is you win the World Series without two lefties.

I’d so much rather a bullpen full of competent righties than watch five relievers pitch the 7th and 8th innings and hope that every single one of them pitch well.
Yeah, because all righties are better than all lefties. That’s another MLB rule.
Why haven’t they shown any interest in Mike Gonzalez?
If you approached Mike Gonzalez back in December with a 1 yr/2mil deal, he’d say no. But now that pitchers and catchers report in less than a week and he’s still unemployed, he might say yes.
I’d much rather see them give Cabral a shot anyway.

An extra lefty would be nice but I don’t think it’s a necessity. It’s just so unfortunate that Marte and Feliciano turned up lame.

I know you say that in jest, but Robertson does actually throw left-handed when shagging balls during batting practice.

Looks like the head jerk thing he does during his delivery has finally gotten to him.
Okajima would have needed to seriously turn heads in order to make the Yankees at all.
Maybe Cherington up in Beansvile can dumpster dive and give Okajima another chance.
Cabral is legit. I’m happy Okajima failed his physical so a famous name doesn’t get preference.
Guys we have a serious problem now. Who’s gonna be Hiroki’s buddy?! We need to sign Matsui now. Don’t give me this “he’s done” bullshit, everyone needs a buddy.
Hiroki’s buddy is Russell Martin. He said during an interview that he doesn’t like throwing to anyone else. Besides, Tex is the universal nice guy, he’ll be fine.
