Cust homers in Triple-A win

Game 60: No DH
Soriano unavailable due to blister, should be good for tomorrow

RHP Dellin Betances made this week’s Ten Pack, though not in a good way. The blurb is before the paywall, so you can read it without a subscription. “He’s never exactly been mechanically sound at any point in his career, and he’s clearly regressed this year,” wrote Kevin Goldstein, “he has a disturbing tendency to cut off his delivery at release, which costs him balance in a delivery already sorely lacking in that department. The 24 year old just doesn’t look like a starter anymore, and unless he finds the mechanics that once made him a top prospect, he might not look like a reliever either.”

In other news, OF Tyler Austin has been placed on the 7-day DL but confirmed (via Twitter) that he’s getting better and will return soon. Austin left last Thursday’s game with a bruised foot after a take-out slide at second base. Russell Branyan was named the Triple-A International League Offensive Player of the Week while Shane Greene took home High-A Florida State League Pitcher of the Week honors.

Low-A Charleston had their doubleheader rained out. The first game was supposed to be the completion of yesterday’s game, which was suspended due to rain with out in the fourth inning. That game will be completed tomorrow as part of a doubleheader. No idea if or when they will make up the second game, tonight’s regularly scheduled game.

Double-A Trenton had a scheduled day off.

Game 60: No DH

  • Pete

    AAA SWB won tonight.

  • Ppiddy

Will Branyon ever be called up? If so, where will he fit?

    • Chip

He and Chavez can play cat’s cradle at the end of the bench together during games

    • Havok9120

Not unless there’s an injury, because he DOESN’T fit.

  • Robinson Tilapia

Betances has regressed so much that he doesn’t even know the way back to Brooklyn anymore. The strange arena-looking thing confuses him.

  • yankee blue

who is our minor league pitching coach? Its time he made Betances his personel project. Its time to send him back to Charleston.

  • Back in the Saddle

Is Nardi C. still in the picture as the roving pitching coordinator? If Betances problems are still apparent at the end of the season, the Yankees minor league coaches will be 0 for 2 (Brackman and Betances)in terms of grooming prospects for the big league club. With the austerity budget coming, someone in Scranton, Trenton, Tampa or Charleston must step up to the plate.

  • Robert

The Killer BBB’s turned into 3 Zero’s 000. Nardi C should be fired!!!
If we are not gonna spend on free agents then lets go out and get a Minor league pitching coach. Maybe we should hire whoever is running Tampa’s farm system!!!!

    • Ted Nelson

Banuelos is hurt, not a zero. He was dominant the only healthy starts he had this season.

Brackman and Betances were always high risk/high reward guys. The outcome to date is disappointing, but not particular surprising.

  • Sean B

When are they going to announce the short season roster?

    • Mike Axisa

No idea. Last year they didn’t announce them until the day of the first game.

      • Sean B

Im heading up to Hudson Valley next friday to see the Staten Island game…

Will also be down in DC this weekend for the Friday/Saturday games.
