Injury News: Joba, Aardsma, Romine, Feliciano
ByGot a quartet of injury updates courtesy of Erik Boland and various NY Post reporters…
- Joba Chamberlain (ankle, elbow) will throw live batting practice on Monday, his first time facing hitters as part of his rehab. Brian Cashman wouldn’t put an exact date on it, but he expects that the right-hander ““will help us” this season. In other news, Joba got rear-ended on the way to the Tampa complex yesterday but is fine.
- David Aardsma (elbow) will appear in his second minor league rehab game tomorrow, and Cashman confirmed that if “everything goes all right, in 31, 32 days, he’ll join us.” Aardsma’s 30-day rehab clock started earlier this week, putting him on target for a return shortly after the All-Star break.
- Austin Romine (back) has been playing catch and hitting off a tee in Tampa. “Assuming there are no setbacks,” he will play this year according to Cashman. A few weeks ago we heard that a July return was in the cards.
- Pedro Feliciano (shoulder) will throw off a half-mound today and a full mound on Tuesday. He expects to pitch this season but I wouldn’t count on it. Maybe he gets healthy in time to serve as a third lefty reliever during the expanded rosters in September, but anything they get out of him is gravy.

feliciano ’12 = marte ’09
just sayin….
Could be. You never know.
BTW What ever happened to Marte? I know he had surgery, but did it not go well, and did no team even give him an invite, or a minor-league contract?
Nope. His career is just about over.
Why aren’t Jose Campos and Manny Banuelos returning my calls?
With Joba’s luck I would have expected him to be oart of a 12 car pile up and then walk out unscathed.
Completely forgot Feliciano is on this team.
yea, i’d like to forget that signing. what if he pulls a Damaso Marte in October. 9ip, $1m/inning. i forgot he had a shot to pitch at all, i still would lean toward him not throwing a meaningful pitch (or one at all) for us.
get him on the roster available for the playoffs…..even if they bring him up on 8/29…if he gets hurt agaiun the Yanks can have a replacement, but if he is money it will add another bullpen option in the playoffs.
since h eis on the 60 day dl and was on the active roster i dont think he has ot be activated by aug 29 to be eligible for post season play…
if you see Joba in public, walk (or run) the other way. i feel like he’s in Final Destination
Tampa doesn’t seem to be Joba’s kind of town.
Damn, the team’s going to have wrap Joba up in bubble wrap.
Was Carl Pavano driving behind him?
“Joba got rear-ended on the way to the Tampa complex yesterday but is fine.”
LOL….. Just can’t make this stuff up the guy is a walking caution sign.
And +100 for all the comments above I can’t stop LOL.
Romine and some others will be fall/winter league candidates.
Romine cant play in the AZ FL he already did once and is above AA both making him ineligable
He can. Only one from below AA can play AFL.
He can get a couple months of catching in at AAA if he’s back in July, and then be called up in September. He can certainly show he’s healthy during that time.
He already played in the AZFL therefore he cannot play in it again
Right. I was referring to AAA and a September call-up as the way to show he’s healthy.
Joba sounds like he is way ahead of schedule and not sitting around Pavano-like waiting to break an ass cheek or something. Good for him.
Actually, Pavano did suffer from an ass blister that extended one of his DL trips an extra 3 months.
Is someone trying to kill Joba? These are a lot of “accidents” happening around him. Is someone trying to get him for his mystical healing powers? (I smell a movie)
Not amused.
Was Joba really in a car accident? I don’t remember it seeing it referenced prior.
It was an 18-wheeler carrying hazardous waste; hit his Mini Cooper at 90mph — but Joba is fine, of course.
Joba, move into the Tampa complex so you never have to drive, use a vespa when ever possible to get from point a to point b, also when you’re not working out or rehabbing(with a trainer no more than 2ft from you) do not move at all. Seriously, just stop all unnecessary motion. period.
Joba just went to grab his mouse and click on the link to this article, but he was walking across the carpet in wool socks. Inevitably, the static electricity blew up his house. He’s day to day. Doctors have advised him to wear Crocs around his next house.
But then he’ll needed an additional season off to recover from the mental anguish derived from wearing Crocs
So if Joba and David join us, who gets cut? Tough call.
Surely the Yankees can hire a team of people to protect Joba, kind of like the Secret Service.
