Yanks lose to Blue Jays, look bad doing it

The Arizona Fall League rosters were partially announced, and the Yankees are indeed sending OF Slade Heathcott, C Austin Romine, and IF David Adams to the desert this year. They still have four pitching slots to fill, and I’m willing to bet all four will be relievers.

In other news, both LHP Nik Turley and 1B Kyle Roller have been named to the High-A Florida State League end-of-season All-Star Team. Congrats to both.

  • Bo Knows

Another day, another game where Austin hits the snot out the ball. He has been nothing but a man among boys, they need to push him up so he can possibly be challenged

    • Laz

He only got 120 AB in tampa. Sometimes hitters have hot and cold streaks, more at bats allows them to see if the hitter can really handle it. He probably see trenton next year unless he struggles. I think he will be a nice asset on the Yankees eventually, he doesn’t hit alot of homers, but he gets quite a few doubles, and a rh batter. Nice to see a well rounded player, if he works out he may force Grandy out of NYC.

      • Bo Knows

There are prospects with fewer at bats than he has right now that were promoted to AA. This isn’t just a hot streak, he came back from the concussion swinging well, he’s just better than the competition. Also, he has 15 homerruns on the season, that said the FSL is an extremely pitcher friendly league, the big outfields as well as the heavy humidity kills a ton of flyballs that would be homers in Yankee Stadium and many other MLB parks. Austin has an OPS of .875 in the FSL, he’s hitting for good power and it goes without saying that as he gets older he will get stronger.

        • CS Yankee

I wish they would send him to arizona for Fall Ball and start him in Trenton next year but the plan seems to be to send the cripples down there instead.

In that sense, maybe Dellin should go (since he is alergic to the strike zone) and try and spend a few more months trying to hit the glove.

          • Laz

Their moves made sense. Heathcott and Romine both missed alot of time this year, and I think are more developed at this point than Austin. Adams move made sense too since he is getting older for AA but is still a good hitter, give him more time to get at bats in. I don’t think austin has anything more to prove this season, I’m just hoping he can repeat it.

        • Laz

I’m aware it’s not a hot streak. 120 ab allows them to see that, He is only 20, it’s not like he is behind track.

  • Bartolo

Could Banuelos possibly be healthy in-time to pitch in the AZFL?

    • jesse

heard he could pitch in one of the winter leagues.

    • Laz

Not sure, but if he gets healthy there are plenty of winter leagues out there. They may not provide the challenge that AFL does, but it would be enough to get him back into pitching shape after only 24 minors innings.

      • coolerking101

He’s from Mexico. Maybe they send him to the Mexican league so he can be close to home. I believe someone previously indicated that Banuelos does not qualify for the AFL this year (something to do with him not being on the active AAA roster).

        • Laz

I believe it is that his mexican league team has the rights for his winter ball eligibility.

  • Brian S.

Montgomery, Kahnle, Goody, Pinder…our bullpen in a few years is going to strike out the world.

    • Richard Leo

Pedro Guerra also has a K/9 above 9 but no one ever metioned him.
anyone know his stuff or something?

  • Richard Leo

Gamel should develop much more power to be an exciting prospect

    • Brian S.

      Oh hey no problem

    • Laz

I think his biggest weakness at this point is not taking enough walks. .304/.338/.395 line. He is still really young and has a good start. He has alot of very good outfielders ahead of him (slade, austin, williams, and flores. But if he keeps performing he will get a chance to move up.

  • pat

Put Montgomery in the MLB pen, please.

    • Laz

Keep dreaming. He spend 2/3 of the year in high A ball, and they will don’t want to tie up 40 man roster spots with someone who won’t get alot of innings.

  • Laz

Maybe this means they are thinking of bringing up CoJo in september. He is already on the 40 man roster. I’m just interested to see what he can do. He handled AAA pitching pretty well.

    • Laz

Can he really be a worse dh than Jones, Ibanez, Martin, or Pearce at this point. Maybe he can give this slumping team a spark, just for a change.

  • Elmgrovegnome

The Yankees definitely could use a Spark. Bring up some guys like CoJo and give the old fogies a much needed rest.

I dont see how it could make things worse.

  • CS Yankee

Never a single comment on Manny Delcarmen but whenever I see his name he is pitching well.

Guess we won’t see him up with Pedro & David (likely) coming along but could it be worse than what we put out there lately?

    • Richard Leo

      FIP 4.36 BB/9 5.73 is not good

    • Laz

I don’t see it as a likely scenario. Delcarmen is mediocre and could probably eat up some innings but he isn’t on the 40 man roster. Aardsma is much more likely, Pettitte will be back in a couple weeks too, and will send 1 of the starters to the bullpen hopefully nova and Freddy.
