Teixeira named Yankees nominee 2012 Roberto Clemente Award

Mark Teixeira has been named the Yankees nominee for the 2012 Roberto Clemente Award, the team announced. The award is given annually to the player who most helps his community through charity work and his club on the field. Derek Jeter won the award back in 2009. Each team has a nominee for the award, and you can vote here to help decide the winner. The Clemente Award is a pretty big deal, so congrats to Teixeira for being nominated.

Can we nominate him for the anti team player award. In the middle of a pennant race, the Yankees need their 180 million dollar 1B to play through a little pain. Jeter has played the last month (that we know of) on one leg. Just disappointing all around.

I think we should focus more on the award nomination. I have worked for Harlem RBI for 4 years and I can honestly say that Teixieira has been a huge help. He actually shows up to DREAM Charter School and to the field to interact with the kids. Its one thing to simply have your name on a piece of paper but he put in the time and effort. I really hope he wins and more importantly gets back on the field for our championship run.
