Mark Teixeira cleared to start swinging a bat

2013 Draft: Aaron Blair
Game 13: Lefties

Mark Teixeira has been cleared to start swinging a bat following yesterday’s checkup. He took some swings underwater yesterday and will take dry swings today, and he hopes to take batting practice this coming weekend. That seems a little aggressive, but okay. Teixeira will head to Tampa next week to continue his rehab.

    ahhh… me some good news

overbay is like the walking dead out there.

“Mark Teixeira cleared to start swinging…”

He should really focus on his baseball rehab and less on his personal life…

Kidding aside, with Jeter and ARod’s indefinite absence this team could really use one of its wounded warriors back as soon as possible. With that said, I hope they all look to Jeter and not push it too hard and comeback 100% and ready (as best as can be judged by them, their physicians and the team.) Revenge for the 2001 WS continues tonight!

“Teixeira will head to Tampa next week to continue his rehab next week.”

    When will this occur?

  • trr

    ….next week?

  • Eddard

If he’s taking dry swings then he’s probably about 4-6 week away from returning. Granderson will return first in early May then Jete then Teixera. The team is doing good enough now that they shouldn’t rush them and risk further injury, plus it gives us a better chance to look at Wells and Nuney.

    • Manny’s BanWagon

Dude, this Nuney stuff is getting so old.

At first, this shtick was funny but at this point, to pretend that he’s anything more that a mediocre back up SS is just delusional.

      • Slugger27

the delusional aspect is what hes going for. the number of replies to his posts have sharply declined over the past 8 months or so. he wasnt in rainbow connection territory to start with, and its only gotten worse. the guys just doing what he has to do to stay relevant, whether its likely to work or not.

if you corner a starving dog, its gonna bite.

        • The Real Me

If getting replies to his posts on here is what he considers “being relevant” or what feeds his ego, I feel sorry for him.

          • Slugger27

you shouldnt. just getting his jollies.

my old college roommates used to do it on here all the time. its actually quite a bit hard work to post enough “normal” comments to keep everyone honest and to give your troll posts more backlash. the balance is critical to staying in the game. my friends slowly got less and less outrage over their posts and lost the will to keep up the grind and, eventually, stopped posting altogether.

harder work than you think. being a kid with time on your hands and no gf is really the only way to pull it off. but even the best need breaks. hell, eddard took several months off before being refreshed enough to do it again.

      • The Real Me

+1. Nunez is good enough as a back up for now, as there is nothing better available to the Yankees. He hasn’t yet done enough to be considered a replacement for Jeter going forward.

      • Eddard

He hasn’t had much of a chance to prove himself. Now he’s playing everyday so let’s see what we have. Is it that much to ask to see what type of player we have? Is he worth keeping? Will he be a part of the future? Those are questions that will be answered by watching him more at the MLB level. I think the more information you have about a player the better and Billy Beane agrees with me.

  • Dale Mohorcic

Once Tex comes back, you need to keep Overbay around until its sure that Tex doesn’t reinjure himself so you can’t just dump Overbay. Can they send Overbay down, or do they move someone else off the 25 man?

    • Pseudoyanks

I think they will release Lolverbay and are hoping that BB can provide that 1B depth. Not sure if that is a far stretch or not but they certainly have been working him at 1B.

      • Dale Mohorcic

        Who is BB?

        • Luis Castillo (Not the one who dropped the ball)

it came across the opposite of aggressive to me. cleared on tuesday to swing, but not taking BP until the weekend because theres 2 steps (underwater swings, dry swings) to take before BP. if this is aggressive, what is conservative?

    • Bob Buttons

      Fungo bats?

      • Steve Karsay

Why do they swing fungo bats at all? I always was under the impression fungo bats were for old coaches who cant hit a good infield/outfield anymore lol.

Is it because there is less impact on your wrists and its easier? Just curious…

      • Betty Lizard

Fungo bats, the better for swinging.
Now I must go watch “Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice”
