Pettitte dealing with back issue, start pushed back to next week

2013 Draft: Casey Meisner
Game Nine: Back to the Bronx

Andy Pettitte is dealing with a stiff back and will not start Sunday as scheduled, Joe Girardi announced. It first bothered him during his last start and then again last night. The left-hander threw his usual between-starts bullpen, however.

Phil Hughes will start tomorrow, Hiroki Kuroda will start Sunday, and then Pettitte will hopefully start either Tuesday or Wednesday following the off-day on Monday. They have to see how he feels the next few days before finalizing their plans for next week, obviously. The schedule allows the Yankees to push Pettitte all the way back to next Saturday before having to come up with a replacement starter, if need be.

Well, that sucks. I see they’re going with your plan and splitting up Hughes and Nova though

  • trr

well, did anybody really think Andy would sail through the season making 33-34 starts?

  • Speculator

Pure speculation but, something makes me think that this isn’t a big issue and the Yankees are just being cautious. Andy has been lights out this far. I am sure the back in fine and he just felt something.

Will do best to not panic…

Im sure its not a small deal or it wouldn’t have been announced as an injury but rather a reshuffle because of the rain, but i would rather he not pitch in this crappy weather anyway, and with the rested staff i dont think there will be much of a downside.

he wasn’t going to make 33 starts anyway, so if he misses one or two now i think it will be worth it in the end

Arod is a douche bag buying evidence? Can’t he just go away?
