2013 Draft: Yankees signed third rounder Michael O’Neill

Game 66: Salvage the Series
Draft Signing Updates: Clarkin, Thomas, Murphy

Via Jim Callis: The Yankees have signed third round pick Michael O’Neill to a $500,900 signing bonus. That is exactly slot money for the 103rd overall pick. The outfielder from Michigan is Paul’s nephew.

O’Neill, who turned 21 yesterday, hit .329/.384/.525 with six homers and 19 stolen bases in 40 games for the Wolverines this year. The big knock on him is his plate discipline, which resulted in a 106/33 K/BB during three years with Michigan. That’s terrible for a college hitter who was drafted relatively high. Read more about O’Neill right here. He’s likely to start with Short Season Staten Island.

      I wouldn’t count on it.

  • JohnC

Looks like Uncle Paulie will have to work with him on plate discipline.

    • Pat D

And, more importantly, water cooler technique.

  • Danny

Murphy signed for $20,000 according to BA, so you can update the draft pool Mike

      Thanks, I hadn’t checked yet.

Lets get the little ducks in a row then make a run at Cody Thomas.

  • David Brown

They are not signing Thomas ( he is going to play football at OU). The ” Signability Case” picks to watch are: #18 ( Dustin Fowler), # 20 (Drew Bridges), #25 ( Jordan Floyd ( a long-shot though)) & # 36 Nestor Cortes. I can see one or two being added ( I think a lot will be learned about how much they can spend, when the Coleman and Palladino actual numbers come in)

Any word on Judge and Clarkin? Once we get those 2 we can start to work on the signability guys.
