Thunder finish off sweep to advance to Championship Series

By

Double-A Trenton (3-0 win over Binghamton) finish off the sweep of heavily-favored Binghamton in the best-of-five series … they will play either Harrisburg or Erie (Harrisburg leads that series 2-1) in the best-of-five Eastern League Championship Series … that series doesn’t start until Tuesday, so the next three days will be sans DotF

  • DH Ramon Flores: 1-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K – drove in the third run with a double play
  • LF Zoilo Almonte: 3-4, 1 RBI — played another seven innings in his second rehab game … he also singled in their first run
  • LF Ben Gamel: 0-0 — did not bat after coming off the bench
  • 2B Jose Pirela: 0-4, 3 K — he was ejected in the seventh because apparently there was some kind of physical altercation between him and two players on the other team … the two players and the opposing manager were also ejected … not sure what that’s about
  • 3B Casey Stevenson: 0-0 – did not bat after coming off the bench
  • C Gary Sanchez: 1-4, 1 K
  • RF Tyler Austin: 1-4
  • 1B Kyle Roller: 0-4, 1 K
  • CF Mason Williams: 0-4, 1 K
  • 3B-2B Reegie Corona: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B
  • SS Ali Castillo: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B
  • RHP Shane Greene: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 2 WP, 10/0 GB/FB — 61 of 103 pitches were strikes (59%) … in and out of trouble all night
  • SwP Pat Venditte: 0.1 IP, zeroes, 1 K – four pitches, three strikes
  • RHP Branden Pinder: 1.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 1/0 GB/FB — 32 of 49 pitches were strikes (65%)
  • RHP Manny Barreda: 0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 0 K — nine pitches, one strike … well then
  • RHP Danny Burawa: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 0/1 GB/FB — 19 of 28 pitches were strikes (68%) … got the final out of the eighth on a strikeout with the bases loaded

The Triple-A Scranton, High-A Tampa, Low-A Charleston, Short Season Staten Island, and both Rookie GCL Yanks seasons are over. Trenton is the only affiliate still playing.

Pretty impressive, the B-Mets finished 12 games up in the division with an 86-55(!) record.

Assuming the Sens take care of Erie tomorrow or Sunday… looking like the Thunder will be here in Harrisburg later next week. Missed them in the regular season, I’ll have to be there for a playoff game.
