NYT: A-Rod asked players' union to step aside during appeal
Fan Confidence Poll: October 7th, 2013

Here is your open thread for the night. The Pirates and Cardinals are playing Game Three of their NLDS right now on TBS (Francisco Liriano vs. Joe Kelly) while the Braves and Dodgers will do the same at 8pm ET on TBS (Julio Teheran vs. Hyun-Jin Ryu). Texans-49ers is the late NFL game. You folk know these things operate by now, so have at it.

    Soooooooooo, how ’bout them Giants?

    • Bob Buttons

Certainly glad I didn’t impulse-buy the NFL equivalent of mlb.tv, to say the least.

More precisely. WTH WTH WTH WTH WTH.
Feels like this year’s Yankees, in a way. Shitload of injuries, refusal to get clear upgrades, insistence of how they’re good and shitload of underperforming by key players.

    • forensic

I think Eli has completed more passes to opponents than to teammates.

Also, the defense has held the opponent scoreless in just one of their last 15 quarters (the 1st quarter against the Chiefs). That’s amazingly bad.

    • JobaWockeeZ

They’ve always have had mediocre coordinators running the team. Killdrive is using an outdated offense that is so old that it was considered outdated in the 1980s. Buddy Ryan punched him in the face for his schemes.

Fewell still believes his front four is made up of all of famers and refuses to blitz even though the Giants have the least amount of sacks in the league.

Coughlin refuses to play the players that Jerry Reese brings in causing a complete disconnect between your head coach and GM. People have often wondered why the Giants are so inconsistent but there you go. The media flat out refuses to accept the Giants staff is awful which is why they’re still asking David Ortiz why the Giants are what they are.

      • Pat D

Everyone needs to go, coaches and GM alike.

        • Pinkie Pie

I’d prefer if Couglin just retired and save himself from the embarrasment of getting fired or let go.

          • Pat D

            They’d allow him that dignity.

            • vicki

i’m going to punch you both in the fucking face.

              • ropeadope

I’ve got $20 on Vicki. Any takers?

              • Pat D

Why? For suggesting that the whole thing needs to be blown up? I like Coughlin, but I think this is a team in need of a new direction.

  • Bob Buttons

    RIP 2013-14 NYG.

    • mustang

      Your not kidding!

It’s going to be a long cold winter.

      • Bob Buttons

Now is the winter of our discontent.

        • Ethan

          +1

  • mustang

Why are they even bothering pitching to Beltran in critical situations?

    Beltran + playoffs = $$$$$$

    • Pat D

Because they remember the end of the 2006 NLCS, too.

      • RetroRob

Funny how one single pitch has defined Beltran for the negative for some fans. Yet he is arguably one of the greatest post-season performers ever.

Despite his age, if they can fit him on the team, I’d take him on the Yankees next year…probably just in time for age to finally show up!

        • Pat D

I just still can’t believe he didn’t take the bat off his shoulder.

        • mustang

          THIS!!!!!
really small sample vs larger small

          not even close.

          • mustang

            larger sample

    • JobaWockeeZ

Not getting Beltran because of postseason performance was a flawed argument.

But why the fuck did we refuse on getting Beltran not once, but twice?

      • mustang

“The New York Yankees were tipped as favorites and Beltrán allegedly offered them a $19 million discount. The Yankees declined and the crosstown New York Mets”

        I’m still mad at George.

  • KEN

Sources close to the Cubs and others close to Girardi told the Sun-Times in the last week that the sides have expressed mutual interest through back channels in recent weeks.

If the sides have expressed mutual interest through back channels in recent weeks. Is not that tampering? Since Joe’s contract expires end of the month.

    • Pat D

How is reportedly expressing interest tampering?

      It isn’t.

      • Pinkie Pie

It is if you say it is enough times.

        • Pat D

Gotcha. I won’t say it then.

        • Young Whippersnapper

it is it is it is it is it is it is

          Did I commit tamper yet?

        • Robinson Tilapia

Maybe it’ll be tampering in the next thread.

          • Pat D

But what if there is no next thread?

            • Robinson Tilapia

He’ll be forced to listen to us.

              NO MOER THREADZ MIKE.

  • Betty Lizard

    Russell Martin, True Catcher!

    • vicki

et ta valeur, de foi trempee!!

  • Tom

Tony Romo – career game going and when the game is on the line you can always count on him…

    …to make a mistake.

    • Pinkie Pie

The name Tony Romo is almost as synoynmous with throwing IT’s in crucial 4th quarter moments as Brett Favre.

    • Bob Buttons

      At least he never butt-fumbled.

  • Pinkie Pie

    Hyun-Jin Ryu’s off to a great start.

    • forensic

      Yay, go Braves!

  • Pinkie Pie

Did I mishear, or is Adrian Gonzalez’s walk-up song really “El Mariachi Loco”? The only Mexican song more stereotypical than that is “The Mexican Hat Dance”.

    • WhittakerWalt

Jesus told him to pick that song.

    • Farewell Mo

Could have been worse. He could have picked “la cucaracha”

  • WhittakerWalt

    “Bern, baby, burn”

I could be wrong, but I think Bernie was the first player to get the Sterling catchphrase treatment. That was the beginning of the end.

  • Pinkie Pie

It’s like Julio Teheran and Hyun-Jin Ryu are trying to see who can shit the bed harder.

  • mustang

0-5 and they are only 2 back on the lost side from the divison lead.

    LOL!!!!!

As long as Romo is in Dallas hope lives!!!!!

  • Robinson Tilapia

The guy I played FF against today kept Romo on his bench and is currently trailing me by about 50 points. He would have practically made that up by swapping him and Matthew Stafford.

    • vicki

      um, dude. ncayfft.

      • Robinson Tilapia

Someone out there does, vicki. There’s an audience for anything.

        • Pat D

I don’t care about your fantasy football team, and I’m in the same league as you!

Meanwhile, my fantasy team won yesterday. But in my other league my team lost.

          Everyone cares about that, right?
