CC Sabathia joins Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports

By

CC Sabathia has left Legacy Sports to join Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports, the agency announced. Here’s a photo of him signing the contract. Someone needs to give CC a sandwich or a Ring Ding or something.

Sabathia is under contract with the Yankees for what feels like an eternity — through 2016 with a vesting option for 2017, if you must now — so switching to Roc Nation isn’t going to impact any upcoming negotiations or anything like that. Unlike Robinson Cano last year, the move won’t create any headaches for the team, at least not right away.

Now I want Starbursts (check the photo)

    • Havok9120

I have a one pound bag of them staring at me from eight feet away….

      Noms.

    • vicki

red and yellow only. you can have all the orange and pink.

      • Jersey Joe

        I will gladly take those.

    • Jim Is A (Bored) Peckerhead

Interesting that he throws lefty but writes with his right hand.

  • TWTR

I think his presence helps them recruit other athletes and could raise CC’s off the field profile, if he wants that.

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

Pretty much that. There’s not many more baseball pay days for CC.

      • RetroRob

I will take the optimistic route. He’s a lefty, still has good velocity, is a pitcher and not a thrower. Have no idea what happened last year, but I’m betting on a comeback. Not to peak CC, but still a quality starter. He might have another pay day in front of him.

This also might have more to do with marketing.

        • TWTR

I think he is referring to the possibility of future contract(s).

No impact on the Yankees, doubt very much they want to sign him after 2016. He s still “good” but not an ace worth the money he s getting now,

  • Westside Coach

He will want to market CC in some “global way” and want CC and him to be compensated for it. Not just endorsement fees, but from NY. For increasing the value of the brand. Sorry Jay-Z not happening

    • Havok9120

The ability of people to completely fabricate scenarios like this in a non-joking manner still amazes me.

the candles are a nice touch

  • roy

Does this mean that CC will switch from the Knicks to the Nets?

  • Barry

How much longer must we endure this jay z bullshit?

    • Kiko Jones

      This.

I laughed HARD at the one commenter who claimed the White Sox are ready to contend now….hell, even the Yankees haven’t been making that claim this offseason and they have to be a hell of a lot closer than them. If Tanaka chooses the White Sox of all teams than not a damn person in the baseball world can claim they know anything about anything going forward.

  • Bobby

He writes with his right hand?

    • vicki

      seriously though? that’s weird.

    • Get Phelps Up (looking for a new name)

      He’s actually naturally right handed.

  • bobmac

CC we hardly knew ye. AKA who cares?

  • RetroRob

    Jay-Z looks bigger than CC.

  • Chip Rodriguez

Damn, CC’s really been shedding the pounds. Fantastic.

    • lightSABR

Looks weird, doesn’t he? But I agree – in the long run, this has to be a good thing. If he can just get his mechanics straightened out.

  • The Great Gonzo

Starbursts, giant ash tray, red solo cups, backdrop is a couple of curtains, two Dollar Tree candles lit…

TIL Roc Nation Sports Global Headquarters looks like date night at an NYU dorm room. I have to imagine knowing this does not threaten Scott Boras too much, as I envision his office to resemble Ari Gold’s.

  • Silvio

Jeez! not sure I like this svelte CC. He looked a tad emaciated last (bad) season. Now this! Bones Sabathia.

  • Kiko Jones

So, MLB wants to rid the sport of PEDs but it’s cool for former drug dealers to represent players?

  • Claudell

“Hey bro, I can get you a fat contract in an out-of-the-way town where barely anyone cares about baseball.”

    “Where do I sign?”
