Williams, Jagielo, and O’Brien stay hot in wins

Game 10: Big Mike vs. Boston
Pineda dominates Red Sox; Yankees take series opener 4-1

Here is a really excellent article from Ben Badler about teams scouting 14-year-old kids down in Latin America. Agents are scouting 12-year-olds. Thanks to MLB’s international spending restrictions, clubs are looking to find prospects and get them to agree to contracts as soon as possible to keep them away from the competition. You don’t need a subscription to read the article, so make sure you check it out.

Mason! It’s nice that he’s back.

    Also, Severino is looking nice.

    • D-Lite

Listing to the broadcast they were mentioning that Mason hs that look of a player for whom the game is slowing down. Would it if it really clicks this season.

      • D-Lite

“Would be awesome if it really clicks”

  • JonS

What got into Bichette this offseason?

    • Preston

He realized that Daddy couldn’t get him promoted.

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

The sight of Eric Jagielo whizzing past him.

    • Havok9120

Better not to ask such questions.

Pine tar on his lower palm.

  • beth kery

Not much, he’s been in a slump for the most part. I mean he’s still hitting under .250 i believe. Obrien has been mashing, i guess sanchez had a day off? Well looks like whole team heh

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

If a top prospect is not included in the recap, then he didn’t play.

    • https://www.facebook.com/pages/Corin-Hoggard-Abc30-Action-News/175515565830819?ref=tn_tnmn cofuzz

Actually he’s at .286/.464/.429 for an .893 OPS.
It’s early yet, but those are strong numbers.

Hes got some nasty stuff! Probably one of the top 5guys I was looking forward to following this season. Devestating slider!

  • nycsportzfan

DBJ trying to get back in Yanks plans, here. Nice little yr so far!

  • Cool Lester Smooth

I know it’s way too early for any of this, but some of the Charleston guys looks like they’re getting overwhelmed. Katoh’s struck out in almost half of his PA, and Luis Torrens only put up a .057 ISO in the GCL last year; I’m really not sure he’s got the juice in his bat to handle Low-A pitching.

    • D-Lite

Torrents is 17 yrs old. Katoh is pretty green too. The Yanks are clearly pushing both hard up the ladder.

      • Cool Lester Smooth

Yeah, I think they may have been better served by spending a year in Staten Island.

(The fact that I would get to see them play this summer is secondary).

      • nycsportzfan

Pretty sure Torrens is the youngest player in the league all together, no?

        • Angelo

          Second youngest.

    • Angelo

Can’t disagree with you. I guess they could always be sent down later, when Staten Island starts if they’re still struggling.

The early results haven’t been encouraging though.

      • Bryan

Au contraire. Luis Torrens right now has a 24% walk rate, helping him gain a 334 wOBA and 115 wRC+. Sure his avg is dog poop, but right now he is holding his own.

        • Angelo

Yeah, but there could be some reasonable concern for his ability to hit in Low-A ball. Time will tell as always.

  • Chip

Katoh got changed with a passed ball at second base? How is that not a wild pitch? It’s not even the right direction!
