Double-A Trenton, High-A Tampa, and Low-A Charleston all had a scheduled off-day. Weird for a Sunday, even with the holiday.

So do the Yankees now have an open spot on the 40 man roster or was Mitchell not on it?

    • forensic

Mitchell was on it. Under normal circumstances when Daley would’ve been DFA’d they would have the open spot, but he also said he did have an option but some weird contract/service time thing meant they had to do it this way to get him to AAA, so I’m not sure if he’s technically still on the 40-man or not.

For what it’s worth, Yankees.com does list them as only having 39 on it with Daley not listed.

Yes, but they need a spot open for Ryan when he returns, unless they boot Roberts for him.

      • forensic

Ryan is still on the 40-man. He’s only on the 15-day DL, not the 60-day DL.

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

Mitchell was placed on the 40-man in order to not expose him to the Rule 5 draft over the winter.

Geez was hoping caleb and chase make it to the big league team eventually.

My guess is Cotham is pretty fringy. He doesn’t get discussed despite slowly climbing that ladder.

Surprised Whitley hasn’t gotten 40-man consideration. Still time, I guess.

Anyone know why Greene is pitching out of the pen instead of as a starter? Was their a formal announcement that he was being converted? It seems a bit surprising that he was so successful last season as a starter being named MLPOTY that they wouldn’t try to build on this for this season.

He should be moving back to a starter eventually but after relieving in ST and being up and down to the Majors as a long reliever he hasn’t pitched much and is still trying to get stretched out. It’s not ideal for his routine and whatnot, but I guarantee he wouldn’t trade the chance to have been with the big club for a little bit (even though he didn’t pitch) for anything.

Pitching 2 games in a row in relief doesn’t seem to be the way to stretch a pitcher out into a start role does it? With Nova out for the year we need our best pitching prospects to be starting in the minors and when they are called it should be to pitch not be the 8th man in the bullpen. The good news is that their is room on the 40 man roster noq to add Montgomery to be called up if the need a extra reliever.
