Why did Banuelos only pitch 2/3 of inning?

    • Alkaline

Probably obvious to the coach’s he was off tonight. 2 hits, 2 walks, 30some pitches. He’s been only pitching 3 innings before this. Those were probably some stressful pitches, too.

    • Tom

I imagine in addition to having a game level pitch limit he also has a single inning pitch limit (meaning if he goes over a certain # of pitches within an inning he gets pulled). I think some organizations do this even with pitchers who aren’t coming back from injury.

    • pat

      Likely a pitch limit.

    • RetroRob

He threw 33 pitches in the process of only getting two outs. So while his targeted pitch count for the night was clearly higher than that, they no doubt were concerned about the heavy stress he went through to get a couple of outs. He’s coming back from TJS, so they’re going to be careful.

      • Jorge Steinbrenner

        As they should be.

  • Lukaszek

The guy with the Irish lastname seemingly hits a homerun everyday, can we promote him?

    • Sam Palazzo

He was just promoted from High A to Double A last week…

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

I’m all for promoting Scott O’Sizemore. Yes.

  • Ricky

This Joey Gallo guy is a homerun hitting machine and O’Brien is just crushing the ball this year. Please keep it up

  • NutButters

No idea what chance Joel De La Cruz has at being a back end starter, but he does seem to be a ground ball machine.

Wonder if he can be a mid reliever with that get-out-of-a-1-out-jam-with-a-GIDP sinker.

  • nycsportzfan

I’m glad Kyle Roller is in Scranton now. Its nice to mix in some legit prospects with the cast offs, albeit I know Rollers not a bigtime prospect. Still nice to see.

He could really add power to the Yanks lineup if he does keep playing well.

    • Angelo

He’s not even a legit prospect. He’s just an org guy. I guess org guys get lucky and become more than that sometimes, but it’s a pretty rare occurrence.

      • ChrisS

Kinda like the guy leading the AL in batting average.

        • Jorge Steinbrenner

Bring up all the org guys! Carmen Angelini is sitting right there!

  • Jeff

Wish Beltran was a 2 year deal instead of 3.

Mock my words both O’brian and Heathcott will be knocking next year.

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

Your words are ugly and their mother dresses them funny.

      Wait, you meant “mark?”

      • JD

        Classic

    • Jeff

      Mark.

    • SD Charlie

I’ll do you one better – I wish they never signed Beltran in the first place! Oh, and I wish Gardner got the big contract instead of double-agent spy, Ellsbury.

  • Jorge Steinbrenner

Good to see Mitchell back. Perhaps Dan Camarena earns his way into the Axisa Circle of Trust.

Omar Luis….that’s not working out so well.

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

      Earns his way BACK.

  • vicki

pete o’brien is a crazyass honey badger.

  • Wolfgang’s Fault

Zelous Wheeler playing right field tonight w/a 3 for 4 for a .338/.391/.513 triple slash line. His splits are actually better against right-handers although small sample size. He can hold his own at the corner infield/outfield spots, has played some 2b as well, & can hit. His #’s throughout his minor league career say he hits. Gotta be a place in the bigs somewhere. Hope he gets a fair chance to play in the Bronx this summer.

    • Angelo

I hope he doesn’t. That would mean a lot went really wrong this year.

      • Wolfgang’s Fault

Hey, we’ll see. The dude is a solid ballplayer who can hit. He’s a nice piece to have around. Would like to see him get a shot for reasons other than something going wrong this year. Maybe he just gets promoted because he’s earned it & because a spot opens due to a deal that included one or a few people on the present roster for an arm. I know they were trying to find another ball club for Ichiro this spring but no buyers at the time. W/Ellsbury a fixture for the next few years, and catching in the pipeline, it wouldn’t shock me if Gardner &/or John Ryan Murphy (once Cervelli comes off the d/l) or Almonte were talked up or even included in a future deal. Lots of people didn’t think Solarte had “the right stuff,” but he’s opened some eyes so far. Could Wheeler be another guy who could provide solid production if given the chance? Maybe his time hasn’t come yet, but I’m keeping an eye out for him, 40 man roster issues aside.

  • RBP

How is Wheeler’s defense? Maybe we get lucky with both Wheeler and Solarate signings?

  • New Guy

    Brandon M-Effin Pinder… haha

  • Donnybaseball72

I wish there was a 50 man roster but for as long as it is 40 the Yankees can only promote so many players without risking the loss of other legitimate prospects on waivers. Wheeler, O’Brien, Montgomery, De La Cruz and Roller have slim chances of playing in the Bronx this year. Knowing Cashman he will just go the trade route anyway.

I am just not impressed with Banuelos in AA so far. I don’t see how he can help the Yankees later this seaon as some are suggesting if he can’t get through an inning in a AA start.
