Glory Days: Jeter and Soriano lead Yankees to walk-off win on Matsui's day
Fan Confidence Poll: July 29th, 2013

OF Tyler Austin’s re-evaluation has been pushed back, reports Josh Norris. He’s been out a little more than two weeks with a bone bruise in his right wrist.

Triple-A Scranton (9-2 win over Louisville)

  • LF Adonis Garcia: 2-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI
  • 3B Ronnie Mustelier: 0-4, 1 R, 1 BB
  • DH Randy Ruiz: 1-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 2 K — that’s 14 homers in 40 games, or 57 homers across 162 games
  • C J.R. Murphy: 2-5, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 K — eleven hits in his last 39 at-bats (.282), but seven doubles
  • RF Thomas Neal: 3-5, 1 R, 1 2B — 5-for-9 since being sent down
  • RHP Michael Pineda: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 6/0 GB/FB — 38 of 55 pitches were strikes (69%) … more “innings management,” I assume
  • RHP Dellin Betances: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 0/1 GB/FB — ten of 13 pitches were strikes

Double-A Trenton Game One (1-0 win over Binghamton in eight innings) makeup of yesterday’s rain out … game was completed early due to rain

  • LF Ramon Flores: 1-3, 1 3B, 1 K
  • CF Slade Heathcott: 0-3, 1 K
  • RHP David Herndon: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1/1 GB/FB — 23 of 35 pitches were strikes (66%) … 20/5 K/BB in 19.1 rehab innings
  • RHP Tommy Kahnle: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K — half of his 18 pitches were strikes

Double-A Trenton Game Two (6-1 loss to Binghamton)

  • LF Ramon Flores: 0-3, 1 K
  • CF Slade Heathcott: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 K — second homer in the last seven games
  • RHP Zach Nuding: 4.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 1 K, 4/5 GB/FB — 51 of 81 pitches were strikes (63%) … 7/10 K/BB in his last 16.1 innings
  • LHP Cesar Cabral: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 0/2 GB/FB — only eleven of 24 pitches were strikes (46%)

High-A Tampa (8-2 loss to Charlotte)

  • CF Mason Williams & 3B Peter O’Brien: both 0-4 — Williams walked and whiffed … O’Brien struck out twice and committed a fielding error
  • DH Curtis Granderson: 0-4, 2 K — had a little more on him earlier
  • C Gary Sanchez: 2-4, 1 R, 1 PB — 11th passed ball in 73 games behind the plate after 18 passed balls in 91 games at catcher this year
  • 2B Rob Refsnyder: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
  • RHP Scottie Allen: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 4 K, 2/5 GB/FB
  • RHP Charley Short: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 2/1 GB/FB — 69/10 K/BB in 47.1 innings

Low-A Charleston (8-3 loss to Greensboro)

  • SS Cito Culver: 0-5, 4 K
  • DH Greg Bird: 1-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K — he and Dan Johnson are tied for the system lead with 71 walks, but Bird was fewer plate appearances (421 vs. 436)
  • 2B Angelo Gumbs: 1-4, 1 K, 1 E (fielding)
  • CF Jake Cave: 0-2, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K
  • LHP Dan Camarena: 6 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 6/7 GB/FB — 52 of 73 pitches were strikes (71%) … very weird season him, he’s either been excellent or pretty terrible

Short Season Staten Island Game One (11-8 loss to Aberdeen) completion of the June 25th game, which was suspended after four and a half innings because the power went out at the stadium

  • SS-2B Derek Toadvine: 1-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 E (fielding)
  • CF Michael O’Neill: 0-1 — played the original game but not this one
  • LF-CF Brandon Thomas: 1-3, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 SB
  • DH Yeicok Calderon: 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — Yeicokshot!
  • 1B Bubba Jones: 2-5, 2 RBI, 2 K
  • RHP Rookie Davis: 2.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 0 BB9., 3 K, 1 HB, 7/0 GB/FB — started the original game
  • RHP Nick Rumbelow: 1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 1 WP, 0/1 GB/FB

Short Season Staten Island Game Two was rained out. They’ll play two tomorrow.

The two Rookie GCL Yanks teams had their regular Sunday off-day.
