Journalistic ethics only go so far

On Wednesday, I wrote about the BBWAA’s decision, inspired by Curt Schilling, to disqualify players with incentive clauses when it comes to award voting. Today, we hear that the Writers’ board decided to table this proposal pending discussion with MLB and the Players’ Association. I hope the writers don’t back down, but I’m not optimistic.

The writers won’t back down. Won’t happen.

They’ll back down, plain and simple the franchise is too valuable. Some card company or beer company or auto maker coulc be induced to sponser the year end awards and the writers could find themselves on the outside looking in.
TV and radio reporters could make up the voters and it’s bye bye baseball writers, there awards becoming a footnote in history. When I was a kid the biggest beauty contest was Miss America today…. . There was once a time when the NIT’s were the big story today… .
