Hip, hip, oh, no.

Jorge Posada botched two pitch-out attempts today and left the game early. Now word comes along that Posada is heading for the MRI machine and could land on the disabled list. If so, Chad Moeller and his career OPS+ of 60 will assume the back-up catcher duties for Jose Molina. Needless to say, this is not good news.

Call up Montero. Could he possibly hit worse than Moeller?

Supposedly he hit a homer tonight that almost brought down an airplane.

Heck, didn’t Pujols jump from Low-A ball to the bigs? And Montero’s got a similar build . . .

i actually agree. Montero probably would hit better than Moeller, but it would mess up his development (being a buc, facing MLers at 18), and his longterm productivity is more important than one season.

    Brayan Pena from the Braves?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike A.

I’ve had a man-crush on Pena for years. He’s plateaued a bit, but he makes oodles of contact, and they actually had him play 3B and LF last year in Triple-A to increase his versatility. Of course, it all comes down to cost. Maybe they’ll take Igawa?

I was thinking bullpen arm, but if they’re still interested in Igawa, that would be just fine.

This season is starting to unravel. Similar to last yr, where we were bitten by one injury after another, lets see how girardi will handle the situation. We forget what a great job Joe Torre did, getting the Yankees into the playoffs, with so many injuries! no excuses for girardi! lets see how well he can handle adversary

On the contrary, the Yankees got unlucky last year with injuries, but Torre really aggravated difficulties in April and May.

I love the Pena option. I was thinking Ramon Hernandez since Ken Rosenthal thinks he makes sense for Cincy but Ken also notes that Hernandez is signed through 2009.

Didn’t take long to get an opportunity to second guess the decision to give a big multi-year deal to a 36 year old catcher, huh? :-)

The good news is we have Molina. Imagine if our starter were now Kelly Stinett…
