Yanks plan on picking up every failed pitcher ever

The Yanks are continuing to sign pitchers who aren’t very good like it’s nobody’s business. After weeks of speculation, they signed Victor Zambrano to a Minor League deal. Zambrano is most famous for being terrible after the Mets inexplicably traded Scott Kazmir for him. Meanwhile, the Twins are about to DFA Livan Hernandez. What are the odds that the 1997 NLCS and World Series MVP ends up on the Yankees? After all, he’s better than Sidney Ponson, although better is all relative.

Is Scott Erickson still available? Sterling Hitchcock? Irabu? Ed Yarnall?

    • Thurman

Watch them work out a waiver deal for Brett Tomko…fingers crossed!!

      • Thurman

You can substitute Mark Redman or Steve Trachsel into the previous post.

        • RustyJohn

          Two words: Paul Wilson.

          • RustyJohn

Four words (actually five): John Halama and Paul Abbott.

            • Mike A.

              Darren Dreifort.

              • jsbrendog

                jim abbot?

                • tommiesmithjohncarlos

                  Mordecai “Three Finger” Brown?

  • TurnTwo

i agree in theory that quantity is good when quality doesnt exist, but at some point id really love to have an actual good pitcher fill in one of these days.

  • Joe

Wow, put their stats up side by side and it’s like they are almost the same pitcher. They are both horrible

  • Geno

I don’t know. Call me crazy, but I could see Livan Hernanadez coming here and doing OK. Certainly better than Ponson, Rasner or Zambrano.

    • Jake

      OK, you’re crazy.

      • RustyJohn

Call me crazy, but I think the Yanks should work out a waiver trade for Carlos Silva.

        • Mike A.

You’re not crazy, you’re insane. He’s got 3yrs and $36M left on his contract, and he sucks.

          • tommiesmithjohncarlos

Carlos Silva may be the worst free agent signing EVER.

At least with Barry Zito, there was a slight, slim possiblity he was going to be good, based on prior Cy Young-ian success. They handed Silva almost 50M hoping and praying he’d only be pretty shitty and not train-wreck shitty.

            • RustyJohn

That’s the genius of Bill Bavasi- some people buy low, some people buy high and Bill Bavasi buys high on train-wreck shitty.

i’d rather see kennedy get 2 starts to prove himself. if that fails, hell, try aceves. anyone is better than ponson. ponson is guaranteed to give you <6 innings and at least 5 runs. at least with kennedy there is a chance he could keep the yanks in games.

  • justin

Anyone know who is pitching for the thunder tonight? I might go to the game, just wanted to know if its worth it

  • Manimal

Ill take Ponson’s 94 mph fastbal over his 83 mph.

    • Geno

Is this create-a-pitcher? In that case, I’ll take Koufax’s pure talent, Walter Johnson’s durability, Doc Gooden’s rookie-year fastball and Bob Gibson’s tenacity please.

  • p

mike if by “better” u mean “as fat as” then yes livan hernandez is better than snacks pontoon

    • jsbrendog

that is the best ponson nickname ever

  • steve (different one)

if Livan is released, i have no doubt the yankees will pick him up.

i also think he would be better than Ponson.

none of those other guys like Milton or Zambrano will see the Bronx.

    • jsbrendog

regardless, throw it all att eh wall and see what sticksif mussina can reinvent himself at 39 one of these guys could possibly become a viable ml 5th starter

and whats an MiLB contract anyway?

  • Bruno

I’d be surprised if Livan was in the Bronx and not QUEENS. Omar’s a moron for COUNTING on Pedro & Duque going into the season in the first place. Yanks have options in AAA, the Mets don’t to my understanding.
