RAB Fantasy Football Update

Bemoaning the state of baseball commentary
ALCS Game 4: Rays @ BoSox

Back in August, a few of us casually brought up the idea of starting a fantasy football league, and an idea that went from “yeah, it sounds like it’ll be a nice hobby” exploded into a massive 20-team league with more than enough trash talk to go around.

Having this many teams means that resources are scarce. Free agency and the waiver wire are basically barren, backup QB’s are at a premium, and third string RB’s are often trade targets. My original roster has undergone quite a facelift, although it hasn’t helped much.

Gone are Rashard Mendenhall (injury), Kevin Faulk, Dennis Northcutt & Joe Jurevicius, replaced by John Carlson, Bobby Wade, Justin McCareins & Harry Douglas. That’s how scarce decent players are. Vince Young’s meltdown has forced me to start Chad Pennington, and Todd Heap’s suckiness threw Carlson into a key role. San Diego’s defense is sorely missing Mr. Merriman, as is my team. Michael Pittman’s been a Godsend, covering for Ryan Grant, who’s allergic to the endzone.

My top two players are Brandon Jacobs & Calvin Johnson, scoring 72.10 & 65.20 points, respectively. The second tier includes Pennington, Pittman, Kevin Walter & Antwaan Randle El, all of whom are in the 53-60 point range. I own exactly one of the top 52 point getters in the league, and just four of the top 65. It’s shaping up to be a long season, unless VY starts performing like he’s playing USC every week.

Standings after the jump. If any of the other teams want to chime in, leave your two cents in the comments (if I missed a link to someone’s site, let me know).

I forgot against who, but I lost a game by 0.50-points because the Philadelphia Eagles forgot Cowboys’ Tight End, Jason Witten, was an eligible receiver. Assholes.

I have to say, I wasn’t expecting to be second in the league in points accumulated almost one-third of the way through the season. Gregg Jennings is probably my MVP.

Oh, and that Matt Ryan for Steve Breaston trade is working out quite well for me.

If Michael Turner can take some advice from Joe Morgan and start putting up some consistent numbers, I’ll start feeling that much better about my chances throughout the season.

  • baseballbackyet?

All I have to say is I’m gonna win it all! (Yeah, right. I don’t even have a starting QB!)

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike A.

      I’ll trade you Vince Young.

Looks like taking a good TE early (Jason Witten) has paid off pretty well for me and the Hitmen. Eli has been nice, two good runningbacks (Jamal Lewis and Willie Parker) are definitely good to have, even though Parker has been injured. Tennesee D has been a pleasant surprise. I mean I could use a little help at WR, but you can’t win em all. It was all about the draft position, and at second to last in a serpentine draft, I don’t think I could have sat much better.

  • jsbrendog

if it wasn’t for frank gore I would be n last place. with my roster 8th is surprising! on the way up!

  • Manimal

starting 0-3, right now Im 2-4. yahoo ruined my team when the auto drafted it. Wait till LT gets healthy and I will do better.

All you motherfuckers are going to lose. YOU ARE THE ONES WHO ARE THE BALL-LICKERS! Once I bump off Craptastic Jay and Rae Carruth’s Hitmen and claim sole possession of first, which is rightfully mine, I’m gonna make them eat my shit, then shit out my shit, and then eat their shit that’s made up of my shit that I made them eat. And then all you fuckers are next.

Love, Tommie Smith and John Carlos.

    • parms

yeah you pretty much have zero shot of knocking me off but thanks. im just getting my team back to health.

  • http://www.yanksblog.com Patrick

    Thanks for the link.

I’m feeling as good as can be expected with my team. My roster has managed to stay pretty healthy as I’ve only made three moves. I dropped Chris Henry for Hank Baskett, Courney Taylor for Lance Moore and Kolby Smith for J.P. Losman. Could use another RB… but, so could we all, I guess. :)

  • Jay CT

Dude, you guys really stand much of a chance, and I don’t even have to get into the whole who eats whos shit. Fantasy football is all about stars. I have all the stars. Romo (granted, just lost him, but still), Reggie Wayne, Brandon Marshall, Steven Jackson (who is playing better then people realize), DMacFadden )who will only get better now that hes getting healthy)… mix in young upside guys like Hightower and a strong D in Carolina. I picked last. 20th. And I still have 5 guys taken in the first 2 rounds I believe. Awesomeness, thy name is Craptastic Jay
