Stark bites on the Sabathia/Golden State Warriors report

By

Just this morning, we predicted that some reporter somewhere would make note of the fact that Bay Area native and resident CC Sabathia attended a game of his home-town Golden State Warriors as a sign that he maybe, might, could sign with the Giants. Little did I realize it would be ESPN national baseball writer Jayson Stark. In a blog post that lists every reason why the Giants shouldn’t sign Sabathia and then posits that they might anyway, Stark plays up the fact that CC went to a Warriors game. When will the media ever learn?

When will the media ever learn?

I cast my vote for NEVER.

  2. Double-J says:

ZOMG I heard Sabathia ate a Philly cheese steak @ the game, which clearly shows signs that the Phillies are going to make a move for the big man.

  3. christopher says:

I hate ESPN with a passion, Is this warriors game the same thing as the weekend where he was in 18 places at once including at home, at a high school football game with adam dunn and orlando hudson (a popular free agent hangout apparently) a party his mother’s womb and a few other places.

in his defense though, they are desperate for anything to write

  4. christopher says:

let us hope the knicks continue to lose lose lose. a lottery pick this year and next and then in 2010 bring us Lebron and bosh or Wade (think bosh is a better option – like the big man and wade and lebron may conflict for ball handling time alla the nuggets last year)

    enjoyed the peavy debate.

Truth be told I really only want CC, 2nd tier starer, Dunn and Manny. Yes Manny and that is a big reason I want Peavy. Kepps the payroll down this season and losing damon and matsui pays manny’s salary.
With AROD Jeter, Dunn Cano Posada and Manny the team could easily support gardner’s bat.

  5. Jack says:

If I was a free agent of CC’s caliber, I woild be travelling everywhere, just to fuck with the media. I might even go to Japan, just to see if they think I’d want to sign over there.

  6. Manimal says:

Can he please sign so we can move on to other priorities.

  7. A.D. says:

They are desperate for stuff to write… currently the all hot stove team (i.e. players that have signed/traded)

Yeah but did you all see what he was wearing?

YES I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH FOR MY POST!
The guy with the long name and annoying lack of personality will be best buddies with me now!

    • Jamal G. says:

That was from October… of last year.

Being a smart-ass and completely falling on one’s face whilst attempting to be said smart-ass FAIL. http://failblog.files.wordpres.....-fail1.jpg

      ;)

      • DonnieBaseballHallofFame says:

No REALLY? What you think this is a reenactment picture of that game last year.

A friend of mine is kind of sort of friendly with CC and he says CC is always wearing a Yanks cap when he sees him around non baseball season for years even before he was a MLB player. I told him to tell CC that he could get his hats for free now and wear them even when he plays baseball if he wants to.

        • Chip says:

I hear that when CC was young, he was photographed at Yankee Stadium wearing a Yankees hat holding a sign that says “Yankee fan today tomorrow forever”

O wait, that was another sure signing…

    • The guy with the long name and annoying lack of personality will be best buddies with me now!

      A) I have more personality in my little finger than you have in your whole body. Most everybody on here likes me. Everyone has grown to detest you.
      B) I won’t be buddies with you until you STOP DUCKING ME AND ANSWER MY POSTS AFTER I RIP APART YOUR SHITTY ARGUMENTS.

      • DonnieBaseballHallofFame says:

“Most everybody on here likes me” Is that your daily chant? In the mirror in mommys room?

Seriously who would say stuff like this? Insecure lil guy?

Ducking you? Everytime you say something stupid when I post you mean? Like the one where you were saying how great that Kenny Rogers is? Not sure if you meant the singer or the cheater guy who sucked when he was on the Yankees.

Seek help lil buddy, seek help. Tell moms to talk to your pediatrician and see if he can get you into some sort of camp during winter break or something.

        • pat says:

Yea tommie get outta yer moms basement, change those power ranger underoos and come to the conclusion that you’re a snarky juvenile loser.

  9. Wait, CC went to a Warriors game, right?

The Warriors = in Oakland, CA
CC’s hometown of Vallejo, Ca = a suburb of Oakland, CA
The San Fransisco Giants = Not in Oakland, CA

    Jayson Stark = geography fail

  10. Zach Sanders says:

Really Mr. Stark? I guy is at home during the offseason, and goes out in public, and that is a big deal now. Ridiculous.

    • Joltin' Joe says:

Not trying to criticize you Zach, as you are far more established in the blogging world than me, but your Dunn arbitration article – your best evidence his case is his .236 average. Really? He OPS’d around .900 as usual.

  11. radnom says:

Whoa whoa whoa. Did any of you guys actually read the article?
It was decent (although I disagree with it) that happened to make an allusion to the fact that he attended that game.
At no point did Stark seriously suggest that this was a piece of evidence that meant Sabathia was favoring the Giants…it was more of a “look, he spends his free time here when he has a choice, this would be a good fit” sort of reference which isn’t invalid.
There are enough examples of irresponsible journalism that we don’t need to exaggerate this one.

    • pat says:

Reading things closely THEN passing judgment on them? Preposterous.

    • DonnieBaseballHallofFame says:

Well many who blog are surly and angry they are not in the legitimate media so they attack anybody with a job who writes articles not based on 4 letter acronyms.

      • Joseph P. says:

You just think you know everything.

      • Ben K. says:

Did you bother to read it closely? Did anyone of you? Here’s what Stark said:

Sabathia has sent multiple signals that he would love to be a Giant. He loves the National League. He loves California. He loves the Bay Area in particular. He even loves the Warriors — enough that he showed up at a Warriors game in person this week.

So to break it down, his topic statement is that “Sabathia has sent multiple signals that he would love to be a Giant.” His evidence includes going to a Golden State Warriors game. That’s a pretty outlandish claim from an ESPN columnist. Going to a basketball game isn’t a signal that he’s interested in being on the Giants, one of the worst teams in the NL.

  12. Mike A. says:

This was my favorite line from Stark’s post:

And no matter how much the Giants might want to prioritize offense this winter, if the most alluring free agent in the solar system keeps suggesting he wants to play for your team if you can make it worth his while, how can you not think about it?

When did CC suggest he wanted to play for them?

    • whozat says:

Come on…”NL Team”, “West Coast”…obviously the Giants!

Just because CC himself didn’t say much beyond “I like hitting” and “Yes, I do live in California” doesn’t mean anything.

    • radnom says:

You didn’t hear about the naked pictures he sent the front office?

  13. [...] saying a lot about CC Sabathia these days, but I’m not buying it. After last night’s Jayson Stark speculation about Sabathia and the Giants, Mark Feinsand’s sources said that the Giants were [...]
