2009 Minor League rosters announced
ByPeteAbe has the official Opening Day rosters for the four full-season affiliates straight from the Yankees. We found out who was going to suit up for Low-A Charleston over the weekend, and yesterday we got word of Double-A Trenton’s preliminary roster. The Thunder is still two players over the 24-man roster limit, so I’m curious to see what happens there. Otherwise, there’s no real surprises with High-A Tampa’s and Triple-A Scranton’s roster. The only things that catch my eye are that Angel Berroa is nowhere to be found and Scranton will carry three catchers. Oh, and both Jairo Heredia and Wilkins DeLaRosa are MIA. I guess that’s noteworthy
Double-A Trenton’s season begins tomorrow at home vs Binghamton, while the other three clubs start on Thursday. So you know what that means … tomorrow night, DotF, be there.

Melvin must be making the jump to the big league team soon.
Seriously, where is he playing this year.
Seriously, where is he playing this year?
Your mom’s bedroom.
He’s currently filling in for Thor as The God of Thunder. Thor has the flu, he’s day-to-day.
No Christian Garcia either, but it looks like that was expected.
he’s on the DL right now…he’ll be in Trenton soon.
I wonder how the Trenton starting pitching will work out, on the backend that is. McAllister, Hacker, Kontos, Nova, Pope right now…who gets bumped when Garcia returns?
i miss DoTF !!!
Cannot wait for DoTF…
Catchers: Jesus Montero, Austin Romine, Steve Strausbaugh.
One of those three should be converted to pitcher.
Montero.
Yeah, that’s pretty much a given. He can’t hit his way out of a wet paper bag, so they should try him on the mound as long as he is young and has some value.
What a bust Montero is.
If he can stay at catcher, he’d be a great prospect. But, since he can’t, he’s a bum.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go shine Victor Martinez’s nuts.
Sincerely,
ESPN
Only to pitch the 8th though
where’s bradley suttle?
On the DL. He has shoulder surgery in the offseason and is still rehabbing.
thanks, mike. where do you think he’ll end up when healthy?
Tampa.
yeah, that’s where i first looked…and was obviously surprised not to see him there (or anywhere)
Mike,
Do you think Suttle is a breakout hitter for ’09? The dude could hit for really good average, and even though Suttle’s got middling power could he be a respectable bench addition (A-rod’s back-up)?
He kind of broke out last year, didn’t he?
I’m a sucker for guys like him. Strong defense, very good batting eye, lots of power to the gaps. Cole Gillaspie and Jon Jay are like, my heros.
Wasn’t he shut down before the end of the season though? I’m thinking along the lines of .300/.350/.450 — i think he’s capable of that kind of production at Tampa.
In Suttle’s prospect profile, you said his defense was adequate at best. Has he improved that much, or was that wrong earlier?
He made major strides last year with his defense. He’s no Gold Glover, but he’s solid.
Ok, thanks.
I love Tim Dierke’s response in his live chat a few minutes ago about Ramiro Pena
[Comment From Ramiro Pena]
Someone on the Yankees telecast said that scouts are starting to refer to me as one of the top “up-and-coming” shortstops in the Majors. Is this true?
Tim Dierkes: Nah
Maybe we should be seeing him in the DotF this year. I’m assuming we will in a month or so.
Who, Pena or Dierkes?
Well I think if we signed Dierkes he’d probably be in Rookie ball, but I was referring to Pena
I dunno, I think Dierkes has the potential for some nasty stuff. Don’t sell him short.
He’s got ridiculous upside.
I believe there’s only one person on this blog capable of ridiculous upside!
Jorge Vazquez is also conspicuously absent. Garcia and Horne are on rehab assignments, I think Sanchez is, too.
The three pitchers are rehabbing from various ailments. I forgot about Vazquez, but he wasn’t anything special to begin with.
Who is this Jorge Vazquez character? And why do I keep seeing people refer to him as a sleeper candidate? I’ve never even heard of the guy and I’ve followed the minors for a few years now….
A 27 or 28 yr old 1B/DH they signed out of Mexico in November. He’s an older Juan Miranda, if that.
He’s Javier Vazquez’s little brother. Or possibly Jorge Posada’s little brother.
Either way, with a pedigree like that, he’s BOUND to be awesome!
He’s Javier Vazquez’s
little brother. Or possiblyand Jorge Posada’slittle brotherlove child. You got a dirty little mind.
He’s Javier Vazquez’s and Jorge Posada’s love child.
You need a woman for that kinda deal.

Down on the farm, yay!
Mike, how long until Brackman makes it up to Tampa, I really want to see him?
punctuation fail
I’m guessing mid-season.
Gotta say I missed DotF almost as much as Yankee baseball, I might cry tomorrow when I finally see it

(I typed in “fat kid and cake” into the search to illustrate my point, but this was just sooooooo much better)
Pilittere’s in AAA and Cervelli’s in AA? Not like it’s a big deal, but isn’t that a change in the pecking order from recent years?
Any guesses on Arodys Vizcaino? GCL?
Extended Spring Training.
What about Heredia??? I expected him at Tampa. Is he on the DL????
