Looked like Mo was getting ready to pitch the 10th,. If so, then I really don’t get why Girardi didn’t use him in the 8th. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt about treating Mo carefully
I suspect Girardi’lll say that his 9th was so free and easy, it wasn’t much of strain and afforded him the luxury of pitching the 10th. Still don’t like it, though. I heard Girardi say on thursday they no plans to pitch Mo 2 innings any time soon, and for a manager who gives the appearance of being so disciplined, I feel his decisions are sometimes a little too spur of the moment, or if I were less charitable, borderline panicky. Not that this move is at all panicky, but it has that typical Girardi betwixt and between scent to it.
Thanks, good to see that Mo is back. I would have liked to see him in the 8th though. I guess if Torre did that we would be talking about how he was going to throw his arm off.
Here’s the Mo rationale as far as I can see it, regarding using / not using him in the 8th: when he entered in the 9th, he only threw 11 pitches, leaving him perfectly able to go another inning. Had Girardi brought him in Mo had thrown 35 pitches, no way does he pitch the 10th. So, apply the logic to the 8th. He didn’t bring him in due to the risk of throwing too many pitches and being unavailable for the 9th. There’s no way to tell how easy / hard an inning is going to be until it’s pitched.
(And by the way, I am an advocate of the “closer in the most important spot” theory, so I don’t say this blindly.)
So you’re impressed with the offense the last 2 games???
I don’t judge things on two game windows, because that’s ridiculously shortsighted.
How about their team average with RISP??? It’s one of the worst in the league!!!
Team OPS with RISP – .780 (15th in all of baseball)
I’d like it to be higher, but I’m not firing Kevin Long for having a middle of the pack RISP OPS after a month and a half. That’s also ridiculously shortsighted.
Nope, haven’t forgotten it. I just allow for more variable factors in my analysis than you do.
I generally don’t call for the firings of hitting or pitching coaches, because that’s above my paygrade. There’s too many other reasons why a team would hit well or hit poorly.
WHat’s the point of of even having a hitting coach then?
When you have a team then was horrible all season in 08 at situational hitting and has once again started out poorly, does that not reflect bad on the hitting coach?
The point of having a hitting coach is to work with players to improve their swings. He can’t make them come through in your clutch situations. In the end, the players still have to hit.
WHat’s the point of of even having a hitting coach then?
Thanks for ignoring my point, which was neither you nor I have the information necessary to say that the discrepancy between RISP hitting and non RISP hitting is attributable to the hitting coach.
Plus, what’s he supposed to do about .247 with RISP? How should be teaching a .819 OPS team to hit differently with runners on? Coaches in baseball get too much credit and too much blame.
Michael Kay is by no stretch the only announcer who’d feel comfortable using the word ‘seminal’ in a baseball telecast, he’s simply the only one who’s so obviously proud of himself for doing so
Kim Jones: When was the last time you had a shaving cream pie in your face? ARod: [awkward pause as he tries to not say "Last night with you, Kim"] … uuuhh, My birthday?
PeteAbe – “UPDATE, 3:03 p.m.: A-Rod strikes out. He is hitless in his last 11 at-bats and 3 for 26 (.115) on the season in eight games with one extra-base hit. His range at third base has been limited, too. That you expect given the nature of his injury. But you have to wonder whether the lack of offense is attributable to the injury, being rusty or something else.” —- “or something else” is he serious? Abe’s a joke
He’s still at it with that fuckin shit! Give me a break! Nothing would make me happier than to shut him and the other detractors up. C’mon Arod get hotter than shit and shut em all up!
I can’t go to his site anymore. To do so I would have to be a Yankee fan with a low self opinion. He seems to have a problem with half the players and most of the organization itself.
His last homer was in the 5th inning of the 4th-to-last game he played of the 2008 season. He came up again in the 7th and 9th innings, so those two PA’s plus his 12 PA’s in the final three games of the season = 14 homerless PA’s to end 2008.
So, this year’s 157 plate appearances = 171 straight plate appearances without a ding-dong.
Cash walk-off…book it?
Nah. Only if we were playing the BlowSox.
Free baseball!
Well, that was a waste of three hours, wasn’t it!
That’s generally how I feel about the first 45 minutes of an NBA game.
Looked like Mo was getting ready to pitch the 10th,. If so, then I really don’t get why Girardi didn’t use him in the 8th. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt about treating Mo carefully
My sister just said the same thing.
Clueless Joe.
The one time I defend Girardi, he shows me how silly I was to do so
Exactly.
If Mo is able to pitch multiple innings, he should have been in in the 8th.
Only now, with this information in hand, am I willing to say that the Girardi decision in the 8th is foolish.
So happy Girardi kept Mo out there.
Not too much to send Mo out there for another inning right?
shit
dp ball
That’s the only way ur gonna get a hit off Mo nowadays.
Here we go…
FUCK… come on Mo
mother fucker
Ugh.
Still like our chances…lets go mo
I’m in Philly and can only watch the gamecast. What have the 2 hits looked like off of Mo?
Dinky. One was an IF hit off of Rivera’s glove and the other was a broken bat looper into the Bermuda Triangle behind second base.
Thanks, good to see that Mo is back. I would have liked to see him in the 8th though. I guess if Torre did that we would be talking about how he was going to throw his arm off.
CURSE YOUR TYPING SPEEEEEEEED!
Nonsense. One glanced off his glove that would have gone right to Jeter for an out. The other was a typical jamshot over the infield.
Mmmmmmmmmm, that’s some tasty CF range…
C’mon Mo, one more and they will win this game for you.
Whew! Gotta love the Gritster’s speed.
please mo one more.
So is it safe to say Mo will be, ehh, unavailable tomorrow?
Gotta be.
Your closer for May 17th: Brett Tomko
I’ll be there tomorrow. Here’s to hoping AJ gets through 8.
::down the hatch::
It would be a waste to lose a game when Mo pitches 2 innings so lets win this game!!
Yea baby!! Lets go offense, win this man the game.
Damn, Mo’s like a cat coming off the mound even at 39.
praise be to mo…..
well I was thinking Mo for just Morneau, but that’ll work! (As long as he didn’t overwork himself)
Alright. Time to end this shit.
I still like Kevin Cash for the walk off Suicide Squeeze….
Inside the park HR bunt
niceee
wow, great job by Mo. He threw 28 pitches, now let’s reward him with a W.
Guess that is what the second best relief pitcher can do. Thank you BBTN
Second Best? Who da best then according to BBTN.
Mo Rivera has more pitching talent in his little pinky finger than Joe Nathan has in his entire large intestine, INCLUDING THE COLON!
Joe Nathan is pretty damn good, but yea Mo’s the best.
Anybody eva played dat new Street Fighter 4 game?
Anybody eva watch dat extra inning game?
funny.

True.
I’d still rather throw Mo for the 8th and warm up Aceves to throw the 9th.
well, couldn’t have expected much better than that
Hmmm, who’s gonna be the hero?
1) Jeter
2) Damon
3) Tex
4) ARod
I’ll take 5) Mauer/Morneau.
I haven’t had a good feeling about this game all day.
Berroa
I’m gonna go with some A-Rod after Teix doubles to leadoff the next inning.
CLOSE ENOUGH, MATT!!!!!
Have a cigar.
I’ve been pretty money with predictions this year. Just trying to keep it up man.
WTF I thought this was a bandbox!
Jesus the Blue Jays won again.
the twins are a fun team to watch. they would be scary in a short series
nevertheless: no way we’re losing this game
That was centimeters away from a walk-off by Cap’n.
You know what they say: It’s a game of centimeters.
/France’d
**centimetres**
/britt’d
damn jeter, now its time for Johnny D Baby
Alright Johnny D, time to make up for hitting that one back to the pitcher with a runner on 3rd and only one out!
Damon walk….Tex HR….
jk.
Goddam this team can be so frustrating!
Talk about a complete lack of hitting!
They should’ve knocked out Blackburn after the Tex HR.
But hey, give Kevin Long a raise!!!
Yankees team OPS – .819 (3rd in all of baseball)
So you’re impressed with the offense the last 2 games???
How about their team average with RISP???
It’s one of the worst in the league!!!
Did you know…
…the more punctuation you use, the more valid your point is?
The point still stands.
The offense has been bad. Having one of the worst RISP in the league pretty much says it all.
Excuse me for being passionate about a team making Nick Blackburn and countless other pitchers look like Cy Young.
15th is not the “worst RISP in the league”.
It’s right in the middle.
The point doesn’t still stand because it’s an invalid point. The Yanks aren’t nearly as bad offensively as you think as others have already shown.
So you’re impressed with the offense the last 2 games???
I don’t judge things on two game windows, because that’s ridiculously shortsighted.

You’re forgetting that they were also a terrible situational hitting team all last year.
And they have been terrible in the playoffs in the last few years as well.
Nope, haven’t forgotten it. I just allow for more variable factors in my analysis than you do.
I generally don’t call for the firings of hitting or pitching coaches, because that’s above my paygrade. There’s too many other reasons why a team would hit well or hit poorly.

You’re engaging in classic scapegoating.
Plus, what’s he supposed to do about .247 with RISP? How should be teaching a .819 OPS team to hit differently with runners on? Coaches in baseball get too much credit and too much blame.
They’ve scored the 7th most runs in baseball, and have had A-Rod for seven whole games. Stop complaining.
Yeah, let’s all be happy with mediocrity.
With a team that continually fails to drive in the runner from 3rd with less than 2 outs.
Good point.
/Oaktag
the best teams in baseball fail 60%+ of the time in RISP.
Luckily, Veras has already been used, so our chance of getting out of the 11th tied is exponentially improved.
http://www.instantrimshot.com
Thank you. Thank you very much. I’ll be here all season.
Tex with the walk off as long as we can get it to him?
Well, he’s leading off the inning, and we’re at home, so we’ll definitely “get it to him”…
Yea, but a run would then have made it not a walk off.
now warming up for the twins: the money you could be saving with geico
LOL
if aceves is the mexican gangster, what do we call pena?
Easy. El Nino. Which is Spanish for The Nino.
The other mexican gangster
“the otro”
He’s not Mexican, is he?
Isn’t he from Venezuela?
thought he was from monterey?
From Monterrey, Mexico.
Is it me, or everytime the opposition hit a ball in the air in RF, I flinch a lil or a get jumpy a lil.
Niceee play to end the inning. Nice inning, Maxican Gangster. Alright, they win this game this inning.
Mexican*
aceves has really shown something up here imo
He’s showing me what I already know: He and not Jose Veras should be pitching the 7th.
agreed
Yup.
Absolutely.
Should be pitching the 7th and 8th*
Jeter didn’t get to da ball, the ball got to Jeter.
raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaange from the captain
I smoke a pack a day and don’t breathe like this bird
Sheila!
Leadoff walks always hurt… Make em’ pay A-Roddd
Wow I luv Tex wit all them BB’s. Guy is on pace to have 100 BB’s no?
Did Kay just say they should consider bunting with A-Rod?
Aaaaaaand Michael Kay just aske dPaul if A-Rod should bunt.
I don’t care if A-Rod is 1-80. He’s not bunting.
AND THAT’S WHY.
Normal humans with average intellect >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Michael Kay
ABOMB
A ROOOOOOODDDDDDDDD
ARODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
NAILS-KRZY, ZEW-SKI!!!
(clap clap clap-clap-clap)
NAILS-KRZY, ZEW-SKI!!!
(clap clap clap-clap-clap)
I called A-Rod winning babyyyy… Except it was with Teix having a leadoff double.
And there’s your Yankees Classic.
AROD BABY !!!!1
A-Rod Mothafuckers.
FUCK U SELENA ROBERTS, FUCK YOU.
walk off babiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
By all means, play some small ball.
Starting to look like they’re gelling a wee bit, perhaps
Listen closely:
THAT’S WHY YOU DON’T BUNT IN THAT SITUATION, MICHAEL KAY.
That’s like asking LeBron in the 4th qt with 2 secs left to make a screen for a shooter to win the game.
Meh, it’s worse. LeBron setting a screen isn’t intentionally taking time off the clock.
Did Kay want him to bunt? I missed that.
A-fuckin-Rod!!!
Maybe, just maybe the yanks might need A-Rod. Im just saying folks.
Nice…..Arod looks good in that shade of shaving cream.
Michael Kay is by no stretch the only announcer who’d feel comfortable using the word ‘seminal’ in a baseball telecast, he’s simply the only one who’s so obviously proud of himself for doing so
david cone uses it as well, but he means something a little different
lol…I was waiting for something lik ethat, but that was well played
Haha A-Rod is the worst at high-fiving the 1st base coach. He always screws it up. But, man, it’s usually a great sign when he’s screwing it up!
I think that one was on Kelleher. A-Rod had his hand up halfway down the line, Kelleher botched the contact.
I love that A-Rod mispronounced Teixeira. Twice.
Kay: Hunting for Talk Radio BS in real time.
I can honestly say that I hate Michael Kay.
I LOVE THIS FUCKING GAME
Stupid A-Rod!!! Another useless homerun by him when a double wins the game. Cut this bum!!!
kim jones totally offered A-Rod sex during that interview. she tried to wipe the whipped cream off him and he said i’m good
Hah yea how awkward was she with the “do you need a hand” waving her hand an inch off his face back and forth.
I wonder if shaving cream pies is too much of a celebration for the media
Kim Jones: When was the last time you had a shaving cream pie in your face?
ARod: [awkward pause as he tries to not say "Last night with you, Kim"] … uuuhh, My birthday?
To quote Zoolander:
“It’s a walk off”

And I think I’m banned from LoHud for insulting Pete of hwo great a Yankee fan he is. <__<
ur not the only one
It seems like it’s going worse by the day with Ham. A year ago he was atleast acceptable but now it’s just too much.
I can’t go to his site anymore. To do so I would have to be a Yankee fan with a low self opinion. He seems to have a problem with half the players and most of the organization itself.
I barely go either. Just read the “news” and skip his “opinion posts”. The worst is when he tries to be funny.
UPDATE, 4:37 p.m.: Alfredo Aceves out of the pen. Why not use Mo for three? I don’t get it.
was that a joke?
There is not a more fitting middle name in the history of all middle names.
That was fucking awesome.
Yeah right, the Yankees are much better without Arod! Fuck yeah!!
Give ya 10 to 1 Arod has cream pied abe’s wife….
I think you need to be married to have a wife.
Should have done my research…
Don’t worry, you did more than Roberts did for most of her book.
IETC
A-Rod in 8 games is already having a better season than Ortiz lol.
Everyone who booed him today should be kicked in the ass on their way out.
Everyone who booed a Yankee shouldn’t be called fans but bandwagoners who don’t know anyhting about baseball. They boo’ed seriously everyone today.
Except for Teix of course.
I’m having a better season then Ortiz and I don’t play.
We both have as many home runs as Ortiz.
How many AB’s has Ortiz have had without a homer? I’ve had 0 AB’s without a homer and he has like 150. Me >>>>>>>> Ortiz.
Tex since A-Rod came back: .367-.444-.767
he went from .213 to .238 today, gotta love going 4 for 4 near the start of the season.
DH’ing him was genius. But I thought Girardi was clueless and dumb?!?!
I blame Alex for Tex’s early season struggles, so selfish of him to take a month off
The yankees have looked so good recently. It’s been so fun just watching them play every game. Let’s hope they can keep it up!
I love facing the Twins. For some reason, they ALWAYS have their number, especially in New York.
