Montero, Banuelos elected to Futures Game

By Mike Axisa

Rosters for the 2009 Futures Game were announced today, with Jesus Montero and Manny Banuelos elected to represent the Yanks. Montero played in the game last year, as did Ramiro Pena, who was a late add following an injury. You can see the World roster here, and the USA roster here. The game is scheduled for July 12th in St. Louis, the Sunday before the All Star Game.

K.B.D. says:

Brett Lawrie is so good they put him on the roster twice.

Ivan says:

That’s great. It gives guys and gals out there who have not seen Montero a sneak peak.

jsbrendog says:

like me for one. awesome

Billy says:

you dont have to see to believe in jesus.

jsbrendog says:

oh so well played

Billy says:

but all joking aside there are some videos of him on youtube if you really had to see. he hits a homerun in one of them (bomb) and he hits a 419ft flyout to center in another.

rbizzler says:

Wow, i am a bit surprised about Banuelos. Not that selection to the Future’s Game is definitive of future success. Nice to see him get some recognition as he is having a pretty solid season.

Yeah.

Dude just turned 18 a few months ago, and now he’s in the premier minor league showcase game. That’s nuts.

Teix is the man says:

For as good as carlos santana is, the fact that montero is 3 years younger is simply amazing, yet they’re both in AA.

K.B.D. says:

People I really want to see: Mike Stanton, Madison Bumgarner, Alcides Escobar, Jason Heyward.

“Leyson Septimo, ARI, A+”

He should wear #7.

K.B.D. says:

Septimo, what is carnal embrace?

UWS says:

That’s what I’ve been saying about non-Dominican Summer League teams in the Yankees organization for a while. I wonder why he’s still in the DSL.

Chris Helsey will be 24 in December, and he’s still in AA… and he’s in the Futures game.

Red flag, much? Do you think it weirds him out at all that it took him 5 extra years to reach AA and the Futures Game compared to his OF mate Mike Stanton?

K.B.D. says:

We must remember Mike Stanton is some controlled from of Bruce Banner’s Hulk form. He lives in a perpetual state of anger at baseballs, but shows none of the other side effects of the gamma radiation.

Comparing him to normal people is unjust at best, and criminal at worst.

pat says:

Ahh manny, you’re my boy.

UWS says:
pat says:

You and me both, sista.
.
.
.
Whats that? Only me?
.
.

Right, carry on then.

Mark my words, The Jesus will hit a ball to the Arch.

jsbrendog says:

Billy says:

Billy says:

kelvin de leon is a candidate for next year’s game if he does well in charleston. dude just homered

… And 3 BBs today. Nice start by Ramirez, too.

Billy says:

word. flat out dominant 6ip 1h 8ks 0r. havent heard much about him, only 19, had like a 4 era in dsl last year

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

He learned alot from Melvin by just being around him.

Manimal says:

ManBan is a bit surprising

Billy says:

a 24 year old in AA gets the nod over ajax for the US … disgusting

Billy says:

i dont understand this comment

Heisey is currently putting up a .342/.422/.574. His career minor league line is .301/.376/.459.

AJax is currently putting up a .328/.394/.431 and has a career minor league line of .290/.361/.414.

Since AJax is about three years younger, is there an argument that he should have been in over Heisey? Yeah, sure. Is it “disgusting” that Heisey got the nod over AJax? Nah, calling it “disgusting” is pretty hyperbolic.

Billy says:

mcallister shoulda made the US team as well

Jake K. says:

I believe it’s two players per team.

Billy says:

Billy says:

kelvin, melvin, and jesus = holy trinity

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

Jesus is younger than anyone on the American squad. Ha.
