Open Thread: Realigning the rotation
ByA few days ago, Joe wrote about a way to use the schedule to tinker with the rotation and get the team’s best starters into the most important games down the stretch. As PeteAbe reports today, the Yanks have decided to take advantage of Monday’s off day and line up the front four for next week’s Red Sox series. Here’s the new rotation:
Sunday @ ChiSox: Sabathia
Monday: off (should have been Joba)
Tuesday @ Toronto: Pettitte
Wednesday @ Toronto: Mitre
Thursday vs Boston: Joba
Friday vs Boston: Burnett
Saturday vs Boston: Sabathia
Sunday vs Boston: Pettitte
So they’re not truly skipping Joba on Monday, he’s just getting three extra days of rest. Considering how well he’s pitched after the long All Star break, that makes me excited. Pettitte and Mitre remain on their regularly scheduled turn in Toronto, while Burnett and Sabathia get an extra day of rest heading into the Sawx series. You couldn’t ask to have it lined up any better, really.
* * *
Anywho, feel free to use this as your open thread for the evening. Max Scherzer and his 2.72 ERA since June 1st are taking on the Mets tonight, while the Cards and Astros are on the MLB Network. You could also come hang out with me over at MLBTR. Otherwise, anything goes here, just be nice.

I agree with you, more rest for Joba certainly can’t hurt. I definitely support lining up your rotation to better match up with your opponent, and it seems the Yankees haven’t done that too much recently. Toronto always does it, so we always get Halladay. Argh.
Mike,
Do you really think you can take Pierzynski? He might be a douche, but he’s a big guy.
It’s okay, I don’t fight fair.
I’m taking this to mean “I’m bringing a weapon.” I can support you in this endeavor:

Some losses the Yankees have had on Fox baseball: 22-4, 16-11, 14-8, 14-4
The Yankees against any type of Sox: 0-11.
The Yankees’ schedule, next Saturday? Vs. Red Sox, on Fox.
I’m gonna go buy some Mylanta now…
(Also, don’t panic. Yanks will recover. August has been a bit rough the past couple of years.)
So it’s Fox’s fault?
I guess their new slogan should be “We Report AND We Decide”
Well, they do like the heartland red staters more than the effete East Coast Liberals.
So, I can see why they would be rigging the Sox and Inidians to beat the Yankees. It all makes sense.
They could not, would not with their bats
They will not, will not with their hats
They cannot beat them in a (band) box
They cannot beat a Sox on Fox

Padres are cutting ties with Mark Prior:
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/articl.....8;c_id=mlb
What a bummer. Sign him to take Mitre’s place?
Maybe it’s worth a shot…
What’s most amazing is that Prior is still only 28 years old.
Did you even read that article??
Perhaps I should be more clear with my jokes?
I wouldn’t mind giving Prior a minor league contract next ST, though.
So you’re saying we should sign Prior prior to next season?
Tomorrow will be another day
by the way, since i started watching the MLB.tv games hooking up my macbook pro to the HDTV, the yanks are 1-4
yikes i should stop
“… hooking up my macbook pro to the HDTV…”
Dude, you’re such a brand-whore. lol
hahaha you have to be one of my favorite people around here
Haha are you a masochist? You enjoy being gently mocked?

Montero just left the Trenton game after getting crossed up on a pitch and evidently hitting his hand. This after he had an RBI single in the first inning where he muscled the ball to the outfield.
Hope it’s just a bruise.
lets hope the xrays are negative
wow release that pitcher now. pendleton – he fckin sucks anyway.
I am enjoying this username.
That’s a good one.
Ouch. I hope it’s not too serious.
Wow, poor ball.
I’m sure those superhuman hands of his split the thing in half.
for those who didnt see it in the game thread, jesus montero might have broken his hand trying to catch a ball. he was in the fetal postion in extreme pain and was taken out of the game

I feel bad for the fans at Kentucky Speedway this weekend. I just hope they don’t get even more screwed over.
Thursday vs Boston: Joba vs Smoltz
Friday vs Boston: Burnett vs Beckett
Saturday vs Boston: Sabathia vs Bucholtz
Sunday vs Boston: Pettitte vs Penny
Lester goes Wednesday, so we’re going to miss him.
Not exactly a preview of the playoffs. We really should make some hay with those matchups.
we have the advantage in all of those matchups
The hardest one would be Beckett and Burnett. If Burnett continues to be money and their offense continues to suck (V-Mart won’t have much of an impact because he is so damn streaky when I had him in fantasy) then the Yankees should have no problems. They’ve hit Beckett before in the past excluding his past start against the Yanks.
OK, I got another one for you.
Grant’s tomb. Who would you say is buried in there?
i think they might have took his body out of there at some point, so i would have to say no one is buried in grant’s tomb
Hahahaha! That was meant to be a joke, but thanks for playing along.
Do you want the pedantic English major answer?
The correct answer is nobody is buried in Grant’s Tomb.
Nah, actually it reminded me of this.

Holy crap, I thought I was the only person who saw “Platypus Man”.
Jeni +1.
Beckett 1 hit this ballclub last time , and he’s on a 7 start run of going at least 6.2 IP. Burnett didnt make it to 5 innings today.
Advantage: Beckett
the only thing is that the sabathia vs buccholz game is on fox. we can chalk that one up as a loss. buccholz goes 8 strong and sabathia gives up 6 runs in 5
Can we bring up Cervelli and give jeorgy a few days off? i think he went on a binder or something…
also, please send down randsom. there’s no reason for him to be on the team. my dad just called me after the game and said how he may have never seen a worse hitter in his life. how ransom can’t even foul a ball off.
not to mention his lackluster defense. i mean, i could see keeping a utility player like him on the bench for defensive subs late, but he’s the player you sub for, not with.
Jose Molina says hello.
he would say hola.
and i like cervelli more. something about that latin american greaseball kindles my heart.
i was just looking up ransom stats, and i thought i went to the FAIL college of arizona.
he went to grand canyon. that’s like devry’s ugly sister.
Meh well Cervelli is basically Molina with 50 points lower OPS and more speed.
and i like cervelli more. something about that latin american greaseball kindles my heart.
Pssst… Molina would also aptly be described as “a latin american greaseball”.
I’m just saying.
Mike
explain to me what Girardi was doing out there today, please? Not pinch hitting for Ransom.. I have already given up on the question why he is even on the team. WHy is Girardi so stubborn? Why do the Yanks give up roster spots like the ydo not matter ie; tomko and ransom.
why have bruney come out for a 3rd inning, I said it at the time it was stupid.. Bruney pitched well, is not use to going mulitple innings, and help his confidence…
why 2 intl walks while down by 6 or more runs???Why ????
I am not one to complai nabout cashman and girardi but I am starting to think they have no clue at all…Bostons management is much better and has been for years. they add Kotchman for defensive purposes and will worry about what to do with him next year…..we cannot even get ransom off the roster and took 6 weeks to get tomko off the roster.. If these guys were young and had upside it is another story but obviously that is not the case. how can they be so stupid……
Game ends 14-4, and the Ransom AB decided things.
Gotcha.
it could have been a different game if ransom had come through
I was so going to close out the Game Thread with:
“I can’t believe Cody Ransom gave up 14 runs. What an asshole.”
But I didn’t want to pile on.
He is Clueless and clearly over his head managing this team. The Yankees need a manager to stad up to Brainless Brian and say I need this and this and this dead weight can be let go. I still contend if nothiong improves 3rd place is the most loikely finishing place for this team without depth or a right handed power stick beside A-Rod.
today was probably girardi’s worst game since he started justin christian that day in minnesota last season
Everyone see NoMaas’ new homescreen?
http://www.nomaas.org/
yea the artist the plays that lead up to that result have nothing to do with the game..
so what managers do during the game or players have no affect on the outcome??I got it the Posada great running play is no big deal and does not matter because they lost by double digits…
All the misplays and bad decisions cause the results…Sorry if this is above your cognitive ability….

Knock it off with the personal attacks.
Any more info on Brett Marshall’s Tommy John surgery?
What a bummer. Wonder what the 2008 draft class looks like in a few years?
(I can live with passing on Bittle. A reliever who throws his slider as his primary pitch? Get out of here with that, I don’t care what his K-rates are)
“Why the rest of the names cannot be released”
http://bases.newsvine.com/_new.....ory=sports
If you’re one of the people who thinks the rest of the 104 names should be released, you need to read this. Little things like the US Constitution and Federal Court Orders are in the way.
I still think Bonds, Manny, Ortiz, ARod, Sosa, Grimsley, Segui should get together and sue the league, union, and US Attorney. Someone in one of those three groups (possibly all three groups) illegally leaked confidential information and cost those guys millions and millions of dollars over the length of their remaining lives.
Unless the source comes forward or the reporter gives him/her up, there’s really no one to sue. The Union had those records subpoenaed by the Feds, the Feds aren’t a likely source for the leak, so they’re holding up their end.
The most likely source of the leak is Bond’s attorneys, who are doing this to show his client wasn’t unique and garner public support. But you can’t prove it.
I had about a page long comment I was about to submit, I have decided against it.
Why not? We’re here to discuss these things, as long as its civil.
But to be honest, I’m not that hot on this topic one way or the other. Post it on the NBC site, he’s the one who wrote the piece and is passionate about it.
“If you’re one of the people who thinks the rest of the 104 names should be released, you need to read this. Little things like the US Constitution and Federal Court Orders are in the way.” [emphasis mine]
You’re confusing 2 different issues, though. (1) Should they release the entire list? (2) Is it feasible/possible for them to release the entire list?
I get why it’s not feasible, but I still wish they could do it.
Why do you wish they could do it? I understand everyone is curious but do you honestly think it will help you? What if Mo’s name is on there? That is a hero (in my eyes at least) would you really be okay with his name being linked to steroids. Now I know this sounds like a script a player would read but in all honesty some of these players might have simply taken certain vitamins they never thought would have steroid related contents. For the sake of baseball, the players and the fans please don’t release the names.
“Why do you wish they could do it?”
Because I think these names are going to continue getting leaked intermittently. They clearly can’t keep a lid on the names, and clearly someone(s) out there have some motivation, and the means, to release these names every once in a while. The only lesson we’ve learned the last few months is that these names WILL be made public at some point. I’d rather they just pull off the band-aid and get the whole thing over-with and put it in the past. I want to move on and not deal with this issue every few months.
“I understand everyone is curious but do you honestly think it will help you?”
I’m not curious, I don’t care who is on the list. But, like I said above, we WILL find out who is on that list, so why not just get it over-with and put it in the past?
“What if Mo’s name is on there? That is a hero (in my eyes at least) would you really be okay with his name being linked to steroids.”
If Mo’s name is on there, then so be it. If he chose to use PEDs he’ll have to deal with the ramifications. I doubt he’s on the list, and it would suck if he was… We’ll find out eventually, one way or another.
“Now I know this sounds like a script a player would read but in all honesty some of these players might have simply taken certain vitamins they never thought would have steroid related contents.”
Yup. Although, in all likelihood, most, if not all, of the guys on the list will be on the list because they were knowingly putting something in their bodies that they shouldn’t have been. They can explain their stories if and when they want to, I don’t care.
“For the sake of baseball, the players and the fans please don’t release the names.”
Agree to disagree.
Yes! Exactly, exactly, exactly. I’ll add one more: assuming the names are leaked over a period of time, the sooner we find out, the sooner the “clean” players can stop being speclatively grouped in with the “dirty” players.
For instance, someone on this site yesterday wrote that they believed Griffey to be dirty because he is “friends with Bonds.” That’s really helpful to baseball, huh?
Eh… We’ll always be dealing with those issues. Not being on the list doesn’t mean a guy has always been clean, it just means he passed that one test. And people will always have their unsubstantiated opinions about certain players, releasing the list isn’t really going to change that.
Releasing the list would just mean we wouldn’t have to deal with that stupid freaking list getting leaked slowly any more. I don’t think it would really mean much else.
Actually, Calcaterra (who’s a lawyer) made that exact point on Shyster the other day. You may wish it would happen, but it can’t and shouldn’t.
Look, I get Calcaterra’s point. I’m certainly not going to sit here and say there are no legal/ethical obstacles in connection with releasing the list. The “can’t” part is fine, I get that and I’m not arguing that point. The “shouldn’t” part, though, is, just, like, your opinion, man.
I happen to want the list released, and I explained why above in response to VO’s comment. I totally get your side and where you’re coming from on this issue, but I don’t think my opinion on this is unreasonable. I think there are two reasonable views on this one.
You’re really getting that upset over one word?
He’s a Congressman.

BIG ERN IS FINALLY ABOVE THE LAW!!!!!
Words have meanings, brother. In this case the gulf between “can’t” and “shouldn’t” is pretty wide. Wholly different concepts.
Just like the difference between “I’ve never done this before, I swear” and “Have you seen my movies?”
(And it’s great that Calcaterra’s a lawyer, but I really fail to see why it’s relevant to the question of whether we should want the list released or not. Plenty of lawyers disagree on stuff… That’s kinda what lawyers, like, do. And I’m pretty sure that like half of the RAB commentariat is either in law school or in the profession, and we’re all entitled to our opinions whether we’re lawyers or not.)
Wow, reading way too much into that part as well.
I suggest you take this up with Calcaterra. As I said before I’m really not that invested in this one way or the other.
Dude, I’m not getting upset or anything, I’m just having a conversation with you. Like you said above, “we’re here to discuss these things, as long as its civil.” I’m not getting emotional or reading too much into anything, I’m just responding to the words that you post on the page. Arguments don’t have to be predicated on hurt feelings.
I’m not even slightly upset, and now you’re reading me being upset into this. Which I’m not.
Again, you obviously care much more about this than I do.
I’m starting to question if we’re reading and responding to the same comments/conversation. I have not said you’re getting upset, not once. You said I was getting upset and reading too much into your comments, above, but I haven’t said anything of the sort about you. Whatevs.
I reread you’re last comment, and I obviously misread it. I thought you were implying that I was the one getting upset. In the context of you writing full paragraphs based on one word I posted and naming someone’s profession, I can’t imagine why.
“In the context of you writing full paragraphs based on one word I posted and naming someone’s profession, I can’t imagine why.”
Dude, what’s your problem? You’ve said I’m getting upset and reading too much into your comments and all I’ve done is continue to respond calmly and try to have what I thought was an interesting conversation. I don’t understand why you have to get so antagonistic about things.
So now my explanation for why I misread something is a declaration of war. This is getting comical.
Your FACE is comical.
pwned.
Hahahahah!
Well played.

Sun 8/30 v CWS – Sabathia
—————-
Mon 8/31 @ BAL – Mitre
Our next day off after that is Thursday September 10th, but we do have a doubleheader Monday September 7th, FWIW.
We’re looking at (if we use my plan) 5 August starts for Joba (8/6 v BOS, 8/11 v TOR, 8/16 @ SEA, 8/21 @ BOS, 8/29 v CWS) which is probably another 30 innings (unless they aggressively start lifting him in the 5th) which would put him at 140.2 innings when rosters expand. At that point, I’d think he’d have to go to the bullpen.
Oh, and 5 starts for the 5th starter (Mitre) as well. All three other rotation slots get 6 starts.
Aceves to the rotation, baby.
Aceves is coming off consecutive poor outings and you want him to start? we’re not entirely sure he’s back to full strength. Rather see Mitre out there and hope he gives us a competitive 5 inning / 4 ER start.
You’re right, but eventually that’s where I’m leaning.
One thing that has happened very quietly during this horrendous series is Mark Melancon is putting together some decent outings. He may be able to step in for Ace once Joba’s innings start becoming an issue, which is relatively soon. That frees up Ace for the rotation.
Or, Plan B:
Upgrade the 5th starter role externally (like, say, Duchscherer) and make it priority #1 to skip Joba as much as humanly possible by pitching CC-AJ-Pettitte-Dookie as much as possible.

Joba gets three more starts on the 6th, 11th, and 16th, and then he’s gone, out of the rotation. And we have the last two weeks of August to transition Joba to the pen and Hughes to the rotation without ever really “needing” a 5th starter until the 29th, where we could either call someone up (like Nova or McAllister) or go Sabathia/Duke/Burnett on short rest for three days…
Garland? Blasphemy
A recipe for 3rd place. The inning limit is dumb and pointless just more evidence on how poorly run this disaster of an organization is since Old man Steinbrenner faded away. Thankfully I have football to look forward to in the fall.
Mmm… I burned my tongue.
Right. Joba injured is definitely worth it. You should go to the Front Office guns blazing taking it over to effectively sending this team to last place for the next 10 years to come.
I just look at what’s happening with Volquez , and I can easily see Joba in the same boat if we pushed him well beyond his innings cap in a starter’s role. Joba will be pitching beyond the 140 inning mark , but lets hope Joe G. uses him sparingly till post-season play.
But in his post it was basically screw the innings cap let him pitch to 200 innings or whatever. I wouldn’t be mad if he does go over the limit if it isn’t by much but if they let Joba pitching like 180 innings that wouldn’t be wise.
No doubt.
If the plan is to utilize Joba in the pen as he approaches the 140 mark , then its conceivable that Joba won’t get called in consecutive games and never go more than 3 batters an appearance.
Its the post-season that’s gonna see Joba utilized more often. But in what role? You can’t put him in the ‘pen and then make him a starter again. I guess you keep him in the ‘pen. All in all , I wonder how much more innings he could accrue utilizing a sparing-use approach.
Nah, tampayankee. You’ll be there in October when the Yankees enter the playoffs as the AL’s top seed.
not if those 5 starts are like the 3 since the break then ur looking at more like 35 which is why i think he has 3-4 if they arent going to pull him from specific starts based on the inning and not pitches that night.
im thinking that start vs boston on 8/21 of your schedule would be his last.
hughes could go another 35 tomorrow, off monday, tuesday, shadow mitre wed for maybe 50 pitches, 65 that following mitre start on the 10th and take his spot on the 15th able to throw 80 with mitre backing him up. that way joba leaves the rotation after the 20th and hughes is already ready to step into it.
Its not my money, but I would be calling Frank Wren right now. If Tim Hudson is rehabbing in AAA games then the Braves must feel his stuff isn’t too far off though he’s been on the shelf for a year. Intersting decision actually to have Hudson square off with AAA hitters. Dude must be itching to come back.
Certainly worth a try, IMO.
I don’t think the Braves think they’re out of it yet, though. Doubt they sell Hudson.
isnt their rotation full ? Lowe, Jurrjens, Vázquez, Kawakami
, Hanson
ATL is 3.5 back in the Wild Card. Doubt they’ll be sellers at this point.
Given the near certainty that Joba isn’t going to be starting much longer, and that Hughes will have to re-adjust and deliver 6 solid innings instead of 1 or 2 dominant innings , its really on Cash to get another starter.
Is Tim Hudson the only possibility … no. But i’m having the hardest time thinking of another good pitcher who won’t be on the payroll in 2010. If Hudson is going to start off against AAA hitters, then he’s gotta be close. Its worth offering a good minor leaguer (WLDR?) for Hudson.
There’s a much easier answer. You simply stertch Aceves out over the next few weeks and start giving him Mitre’s starts.
Also, don’t give up on Mitre just yet. His stuff looks serviceable, he just needs to make some minor adjustments and figure his 1st inning bullshit out. His stuff was up yesterday, and guys like him get killed when they can’t get the ball down. Don’t forget Joba was having 1st inning issues a few months ago, so we know those things can be worked on.
I was very impressed by the fact that Mitre stayed on the bench for most of the rest of the game talking to Pettitte. Most starters don’t do stuff like that. That tells me he cares, he’s trying very hard, and is willing to learn. I don’t give up on him just yet.
Hudson was scratched from his rehab start yesterday with a groin pull.
Tread carefully with him.
hudson has a slight groin strain and his start in the minors was moved back a few days..
the artist you never explained to me how the plays of the game have no affect on the outcome, fill me in any time.. tell me how Posada’s great baserunning, Ransom’s clutch hitting, and AJ’s walking the 9th hitter twice with the bases loaded have no affect on the outcome…
How many more starts before Mitre is shown the door?
And you want. . . . . ?
Until we can answer that question, Mitre’s the man.
I’d rather see igawa
Ouch.
you say that now…
mitre has max 3 starts to turn it around possible less….
Managers have been fired for less than all the crap girardi did today
You’re right. And when it happened, it was retardedly ignorantly recklessly stupid.
Hahahahahahah!!
I’m not saying this to disagree with you but I honestly missed the game today. What did Girardi do?
He made Cody Ransom make A.J. Burnett suck.
I hate it when he does that.
For everyone crying about the bullpen, it will be fine as long as it’s not overused/overexposed like the past 2 days. Our starters have to start giving us distance and then our bullpen has usually been lights out. CC needs a good start tomorrow. Im willing to give Mitre one more chance (though it doesnt matter what I think really) but if he falters, Hughes to the rotation please. The pen will be fine if the starters do their job. We need to rest our pen up for Boston.
Hughes would take 3-4 starts to get stretched out, so you’re stuck with Mitre even if they want to do that, and all indications are they don’t.
http://www.wfan.com/pages/744514.php
Check out this Girardi interview. Evan Roberts tries to nail Girardi down on the Joba ‘plan’ and he was evasive. The only thing he was definitive on, and shot down immediately was moving Hughes to the rotation.
BTW-The Joba stuff starts a little less than halfway through it.
True, thats the only thing that sometimes makes me think not to put him in there.
you’re okay with Pettitte being the 3rd starter on this team if it heads towards post-season? with Joe G. shooting down talk of Hughes-to-the-rotation, aren’t you nervous? Aceves as the 5th starter is fine, but suddenly there’s this glaring hole at the 3 spot.
Oh yeah, I’m fine w/Andy. Pettitte’s pitched very well lately, has always been a 2nd half pitcher and has been good on the road all year. I’d def give him a post season start and feel very good about it. Only question in my mind is the shoulder, and so far so good there.
Andy said he wasn’t able to keep up with his off season program last year (due to the Clemens nonsense) and thinks that’s why the shoulder went last year.
agreed. They need some rest, just like after the angels series and they’ll be back to normal
fuckin Orioles = no help
Another 7 inning gem by Beckett. I guarantee the BBTN boys whip out the “AL Cy young frontrunner” tag tonight.
Of course they will. They will just brush all of those bad starts he had under the rug.
Hot damn! Andrew McCutchen with 3 HRs!
WTH? Steve Lombardi: Is it just me, or, have the Yankees yet to prove this season that they are capable of playing well against very good teams? Further, does anyone else think that sans those two (11-2) streaks where the Yankees padded their season win totals playing teams like the O’s, Jays, Twins and A’s, the Yankees record this year is basically that of a team that loses as much as it wins?
I think all of those fair-weather fans that comment here (Lanny, Stuart, panic button the bad Charlie, there is a sane Charlie too, and countless others) are brainchildren of Lombardi. They always have the same ideas/rants/insecurites/panic attacks.
Maybe there’s some crossover here, but there are tons of those fans everywhere. I wouldn’t pin it all on him.
I know, just angry how he always says shit like this. I mean I don’t even read his blog but everytime I go through the Yankees news, I find cynical titles (like today was “09 Yanks W-L Mark All Smoke & Mirrors?”…WTF?)forcing me to read them (maybe increasing traffic is the main reason behind him saying dumb things like that). Im just frustrated at all the negativity and panic attacks I guess. Cant wait until we get back to winning ways.
You must L-O-V-E Mike Francesa, who also pretends to be a Yankee fan.
Heh…HATE him. He’s…how can I say this?…ATROCIOUS!!!!
ANDY PETTITTE IS A STAHTING PITCHAH!!

This one’s hilarious. Fast forward about 1 minute.
Matt Holliday has found the drive …. the salary drive.
He’s 20-33 since joining the Cards and tonight he added a couple homers indicating the power hasn’t disappeared. Holliday is no longer looking at 2nd billing to Jason Bay as writers were billing earlier. Is this the real Holliday? If so, should Cash make a run and get this guy to replace JD?
Maybe its the return to the NL? It probably has a lot to do with it.
Of course he should take a run at him. Will he get him though? Depends on Boras’s demands.
Yea, we cant really afford another huge contract for a corner position.
Matsui and Damon come off, so that 26 mil right there.
I’d love to find someone with some pop, an OF of Swisher/Gardner/Crawford doesn’t excite me. I’d also like to get a real RF and move Swisher to LF as well.
We’ll see how things shake out over the next few months. I’m not so sure that Cash and Joe G are totally sold on Swisher. As for Crawford, he won’t be a FA, no way.
He has a 10 mil option, and that’s big $$ for TAM.
I could def see them doing a sign and trade, if that’s what you’re referring to. But given what many OF went for last year (Abreu-5, Garret Anderson 2.5, Juan Rivera 4 mil) that may be pricey for a player like him. They may not have any trade partners, and simply let him go.
Yea but Holliday will require a pretty long contract and you never know what our needs will be in the future so we can’t tie up all that money for corner guy.

In all honesty, I don’t love any of the FA OFs. Crawford may be the best one, and I don’t love him either. He generally hasn’t walked enough (career .334 OBP) and speed is such a huge part of his game that he likely won’t age well.
I’m hoping Cash can swing a trade, or maybe get creative with someone. Nady for 1 year?
As long as Holliday can be got for a 4 year deal at an AAS @ $15/16 MM (i.e., a JD contract) then I can see Holliday roaming LF for us. That’s a reasonable contract imo. If there’s nothing comparable in the trade market then Cash loses some leverage. The Yanks might be one of only a few teams willing to shell out $64 MM for a corner OF.
I hope STL re-signs him. He didn’t do all that well in the AL West this year and there have always been doubts about him outside of Coors Field. I wouldn’t change my opinion on Halladay based on a contract year.
holliday is not going to get 16 mil a year.
crawford is clearly the best one, but he wont be a free agent as they should definitely pick up the option even if to trade him.
At 10 mil, he has zero trade value. They might very well be better off letting him walk and taking the draft pick(s).
zero trade value?
Yankees wouldnt trade for him? Tigers, Angels, Mets, Red Sox, Giants could all use a LF this offseason. And all can afford him
Wow, that was a good race I just saw on VERSUS. I’m breathless.
cc is not a pure ace he struggles too much
A true ace never struggles. Ask Johan..oh wai
i still like the yanks in the playoffs
mark reynolds is crazy strong
tampa is like 7 and 1 against KC.. good teams are suppose to kill bad teams. the white sux are not a good team the yanks are jsut playing bad..
I am not a panic fan but when they play bad I say it and when girardi makes stupid decisions I say it. Having Ransom on the roster is stupid period. THe way Jorge has played recently is terrrible and that is the fact….
walking the 9th place hitter twice with the bases loaded is not winning baseball..
Hirsh tonight: 5IP 5H 7Ks. 78 pitches, 54 strikes and plenty of swinging strikes.
Too bad Jennings isn’t working the games today, would love to know what his velocity is and what he’s throwing. He’s such an interesting case, he went from AAA pitcher of the Year and Top 50 prospect to just falling off the face of the planet when he was dealt to Colorado with a couple of injuries in the way as well.
We better cc CC step up tomorrow and be the go to guy in this rotation. By the time this week ends we’ll know alot more about what we have with CC and with this team.
By realigning the rotation, I guess you are talking about shuffling things around with the existing 5 guys, to give some players rest. Fine, I guess.
It would have been nice to add a “real” starting pitcher, but I guess none were available without sacrificing too much.
Gonna be interesting to see how Mitre holds up down the stretch.
Dear God, another blow to the Yankees – Sidney Ponson was DFA’d. Guess he will be lighting it up soon in the Bronx. Oh the joy – please pull another fingernail with the pliers
