ByThe Giants are duking it out for a playoff spot, and are taking on the Panthers at home at 1pm ET. The J-E-T-S are stuck playing the 14-0 Colts on the road at 4:15pm ET. Good luck with that. Talk gridiron here.

I have never had the slightest bit of interest in 24.
+24
ICWUDT
I have never seen an episode of 24, lost, or any American-idol-style talent show,
Woah. You capitalized the W. My world is shaken.
It’s just my phone doing autocaps
I watch the first few episodes of American idol when the sucky people are on. I enjoy watching their dreams get crushed.
Hehe, a sadistic +1
The Germans have a word for it: schadenfreude, which I find hilarious.
And I do like watching people make fools of themselves, but I also sing, and it actually hurts my head to listen to some of those people (which I have done, on YouTube an stuff, not gonna lie)
Tough to say as a Pats fan…………Go Jets!!
Yanks & Pats; how does that work? You must live in CT?
Oh I’ve seen a couple. But they seem to go with the teams that win the most recently…
Not that I’m accusing of Steve H of that or anything.
I live just outside of Boston. Sox are the only Boston team I don’t like, I just couldn’t stand the Sox (and their fans) from day 1.
Depends on where in CT.
Easy to say as a Bills fan…FUCK THE PATS!
It’ll be bittersweet when the Giants lose today. On the one hand, it’ll suck that they’ll miss the playoffs for a first time in a long time; on the other, it’ll be nice not to have to watch these guys embarrass themselves every week.
Defense Mega Fail.
Did Nicks actually just drop a floater?
Panthers are swarming. I need a deep throw.
Damn. That’s the idea though… Eli’s got to hit Manningham on that route.
Didn’t help.
That stat Buck just threw out there is meaningless w/o knowing what the average team does in that situation.
I don’t really follow football all that much, is Joe Buck a better play-by-play guy for football or baseball?
Eh. He sounds a little more interested, but just as pompous and self-congratulating.
the giants are pathetic.
R.I.P. 2009 New York Giants Season
The Giants aren’t good, the bottom of the NFL is just terrible.
Dallas isn’t good either. Green Bay is borderline.
Dallas isn’t good either
Wrong…
Green Bay is borderline.
Wrong.
Brandon Jacobs is running like an old old OLD man.
The collapse of the Giants’ offensive line is the overlooked story of this season. Seubert, McKenzie and O’Hara are all on their last legs. Diehl was never that good to begin with, but they can’t cover for him anymore with the other three decomposing on the field.
Jacobs needs initial separation to be effective. That has always been the case. He isn’t Barry Sanders.
Nail, meet coffin.
YEP. If the Panthers put up another TD before the half , i’ll admit to GAME OVER.
So, only 53 more days til P/C, huh?
this is just embarrassing.

Hey man. I just started reading TYU. Really good stuff you got there.
Thanks; I appreciate it.
Loving the “Steve Spag-nuolo” chant on Fox
Tom Coughlin needs to quickly press the reset button before his progress gets saved.
Haha, well done.
Giants clearly need to spend their eventual mid-1st round pick on the best available OL player. Who’s good out there?
Let’s just hope Eli doesn’t die now
I can has LT please?
David Carr must be itching to get into this game. ELI … wtf was that?
Today, I watched the Giants game. FML.
The Giants just doubled their rushing yardage on one play.
Giants season is over. When does Sunday basketball start on ABC?
Why would a player (I was looking at Jacoby Ellsbury for example) have a really good VORP, and not such a good WAR? Relatively speaking that is, like Ellsbury’s WAR is way lower than Granderson’s, but his VORP is higher
VORP doesn’t factor in defense.
I can has substitutes? There’s no reason for Eli and Bradshaw to be in at this point.
Wow do the Giants suck.
Go away, Luke Wilson.
Is Stewart this good … or the g-men this bad?
Would this be a good description of today:
Picture the Giants being awesome and take the opposite.
Very accurate description.
To take our minds of the Giants
gameslaughter, who would you rather have in the 5th starter role?http://yankees.lhblogs.com/200...../#comments
Jennings would rather have Hughes but personally I disagree. Joba just finished pitching a full season starting so I think he’ll improve and I don’t know what to think of him starting for a full year and then being shifted to the bullpen for an unknown amount of time.
But whoever isn’t the 5th starter really really should be the 6th starter. Not like last year with Phil in the bullpen while we watched Mitre start.
All sorts of this.
Jennings’ reasoning is based on an incorrect assumption, one we saw disproven in the postseason last year: that moving joba-the-2009-starter to the pen turns him into joba-the-2007-reliever. Joba 2009 threw no harder than Hughes in th pen. If he doesn’t regain that velocity, I consider them equal. If he does, then it should definitely be joba as the 5th starter, though Hughes MUST be used in a way that allows him to move into the rotation in the event of injury or sucking.
agreed. joba is currently better prepared to start next season than hughes is. and neither should be in the bullpen because the difference in Hughes the 6th starter and McAllister the 6th starter is likely to be a lot greater than hughes the primary RH setup man and Robertson the primary RH setup man.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PUT ONE OF THEM IN AAA TO START ALL YEAR
Saints FAIL! Missed a game-winning FG. Off to OT. So much failing going on in the NFL today.
This is after they allowed a game-tying punt return with 2:30 left to the Bucs.
Damnit Ravens. Stop killing yourselves. You gotta beat the Steelers for the Broncos sake!
They’ve had so many penalties that killed them. 2 brought back TDs. 1 took them out of FG range after Mason dropped a ball in the endzone while being wide-open by 10 yds.
Wow. Damn you Ravens. Flacco got sacked, taking them out of FG range while being down 3 with 2:34 left.
Aaaand Flacco throws a pick while being hit on 4th down. Just horrible. That should do it, barring a miracle.
Ravens major FAIL. Almost sacked Big Ben on 3rd down, but didnt. They got lucky that he threw a pick and the guy who picked it off returned it to midfield. However, they got called for illegal contact and Steelers got the ball back. Game over.
TB’s kicker booted that shit. Nice kick.
Let’s go Broncos. Gotta beat the Eagles today. (For some reason, I’m having doubts but hopefully I’m wrong)
The Eagles did lose to the Raiders, so anything is possible.
Oh. Wait. So did the Broncos.
I’m still not completely over that loss
FUCK YOU ORTON! He completely shits his pants when there is even slight pressure, usually falling down by himself. But this time, he just threw it barely behind him (he wasn’t even hit yet) when no one is there. Almost TD Philly. McDaniels challenged and got it overturned, could’ve gone either way.
Don’t sugarcoat it, Salty. Tell us how you really feel.
What I said in that post doesn’t even show how much I hate Orton when being pressured. Reminds me of Brian Griese. He was the same way. Simply running out of bounds if there is a little pressure.
See that! He just fell down by himself again (though he was barely touched it seemed…but he got away and then went to the ground) with one guy near him!
I have Colts/Jets.
Oh OK. Just to somewhat prove that I’m not exaggerating. Here’s the local CBS sports anchor:
http://twitter.com/VicLombardi/status/7101166749
Actually, not even one person touched him.
What do you guys see being the bullpen on opening day?
Mo
Marte
Robertson
Aceves
Gaudin
Logan
Hughes (you’re asking who will, not who should)
I think Logan’s going to need to make the team out of ST, and I’m not sure he will. Also, don’t forget D-Rob has a reverse platoon split. He’s effectively your 2nd Lefty.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/.....erId=29172
Mo
K-Rob
Ace
Marte
Melancon
Gaudin (barring a trade)
Who else?
Oh yea, forgot about Logan. I would say Hughes but I’m not sure.
I don’t want Hughes to be in there, but I have a bad feeling he will.
I do too. Girardi is going to want him there
Hopefully Cash sees it our way and overrules Girardi.
Hopefully
I’ll have really soured on the Javy deal if Girardi is playing his (sometimes) asinine match-ups with Hughes throwing to two batters three times a week.
I pray Hughes is in SWB or at the very least, in a long reliever/swingman role.
Word; if Hughes is going to be in the bullpen, I hope it’s in a multiple inning role, perhaps even piggy-backing Joba.
But most likely it’s the almighty eighth inning role….
I’m hoping it’s AAA too so it’s a given he’s the 6th starter. I just had a real bad feeling Phil or Joba will be in the bullpen for the entire year despite and injuries…
I can’t see him getting regular innings in that role. Normally you don’t need a multiple-innings reliever on the days CC, AJ, Andy and Javy start and I don’t think Joba will have as many short starts as last season.
I hope not. =(
Yeah, you’re probably right CBLL. Let’s just cross our fingers for Hughes as the sixth starter.
The trouble is: Joba pitched a full year (regular season, anyway) as a starter; the Yanks went 20-11 in his starts, so he has to be considered the incumbent. They got full-duty years out of Burnett and Pettitte in ’09. What do you think are the chances of that repeating in 2010? They have to get 90-95 starts out of the combination of Burnett, Pettitte, Joba, and Hughes.
That’s the way I think about it.
I don’t think there’s any trouble with Joba having pitched a full season. He should be the fifth starter going into ’10.
I could see the Yankees needing Hughes to step in for an injured starter, probably AJ, Andy or Joba. That makes it all the more important to have him stretched out in AAA and not pitching short relief.
i just hope they don’t stray from the thought that joba and hughes are both STARTERS.
Agreed, Matt.
I was trying to address the (to me) unlikely idea that Joba would start the year in the bullpen. And I agree with CBLL that I’d like Hughes ready and available to start, but I also think it will be very tough to go into 2010 with Hughes in Scranton. I just don’t think they would do that. It’s something the Yankee management get paid the big bucks to deal with.
Keeping Hughes in Scranton will be very hard, because it weakens the big-league team to not have one of your TOP 8 pitchers on the team.
Keeping Hughes in Scranton will be very hard, because it weakens the big-league team to not have one of your TOP 8 pitchers on the team.
But is the step up from a Marte/Robertson set-up combo to Hughes really that big?
IDK. I think the theme we’re trying to hit is that the Yanks need to find a way to keep Hughes ready for the rotation. It seems like there would have to be other roles for him in the bullpen than teh 8th.
My point is that the step up to Hughes from those guys is not big at all and the Yankees would be more than fine w/them as their SU guys.
‘Kay. I won’t argue because I agree with your point, down to the personnel of Marte and Robertson.
The Giants
are duking it out for a playoff spotgot shit onwow i just successfully used the strike thing for the first time
http://classicfun.ws/wp-conten.....15;444.jpg
Brandon Stokley got interfered with on 3rd down. He tried to appeal but instead got ejected and got a 15 yd unsportsmanlike penalty. We were already missing Eddie Royal today. And one of the backups just got badly hurt. Broncos D is committing a lot of penalties, with 3 from the secondary already with 2 mins left in the 1st. They’re trying to limit Desean Jackson but he is still getting catches and Eagles offense is just steam-rolling over the them. They got lucky once with a fumble in the redzone though.
Broncos are self-destructing, though I didnt expect a win today.
/rant over
Total yards: 135 Eagles -9 Broncos
First downs: 9-0
Score: 10-0
Only Marshall (great), Gaffney (meh), and Brandon Lloyd (ugh) left for Broncos.
Uh-Oh
Come on, Donald Brown.
/not rooting for either team, just rooting for the UConn player.
It’s hard to trust anyone named “Donald.”
Just sayin’.
Dude’s really short.
everything has worked out for the jets, everyone who had to loose lost. too bad they are playing the Colts! haha

woops. i fail, just like the giants.
woops. i fail, just like the giants.
you posted twice, so you double suck
The Jets defense is pretty nasty, but boy, they look overmatched on offense and always seem to collapse in the red zone and in the 4th quarter.
Now I know what my life has been missing all these years.
The Slap Chop.

You fucking rule.
Don’t ever let a hooker bite your tongue.
BRAD SMITH , FTW !
That was very unexpected.
The perfect word for today’s Giants game: abortion.
What a way (for them) to close the building. Ugh.
Holy crap. What just happened?
Caldwell put in another QB to see if anyone noticed.
They did.

Painter is straight up helpless.
Yeah, and the pass protection around him has disappeared. He’s basically being fed to the lions so Manning can avoid a possibly injury.
JETS ARE GONNA STEAL THIS ONE!!
Or have it handed to them by the backups.
Either way, fine by me.
I hope WVU destroys FSU in Bowden’s last game.
I feel like Leslie Nielsen just took over this game for the Colts.
Funny you mention that. I could have sworn he yelled out “I LOVE IT!” just before he got sacked, but no one came to help.
I don’t hate the Jets or the Mets as they generally do not impede the progress of the teams I root for, but for some reason, I generally dislike the Jets more than I dislike the Mets. Odd.
Broncos TD. Then Eagles fumble on kickoff. Broncos TD again. Now, broncos only down 27-24. I don’t trust the defense though so we need more luck.
Now 2 sacks and Broncos get ball back with good field position to start the 4th!
Aw shit.
If the Broncos lose (hopefully not) and the Jets win (hopefully not…sorry Jets fans in here), we’ll have 5 teams at 8-7 vying for 2 WC spots.
Question-Who’s your #5 hitter in the Yankee lineup?
The easy answer is Posada, but I (and many others) think he’s due for a serious decline this year. Jorge will get the job out of ST, but who’s your #5 if he’s struggling?
Posada, Granderson, Cano in that order.
That’s mine. Obviously it will actually be whoever is hottest at the time, but just going on profile I do Posada, Grandy, then Cano.
Word.
Matt Holliday.

Who feels worse right now? Eli or Peyton?
Eli; Peyton’s season isn’t over after today.
hoy shit this is fucking awesome!!
GOOOOOO GANG GREEN!
Fuck you Colts!
Game, blouses.
They’re going all Manny Ramirez vs. Mariano 2008…except this is worse
Two WR screens in a row? Really?
Don Banks not a believer in the Broncos.
That leaves the Eagles, which beat Denver on Sunday for their sixth win in a row, improving to 11-4.

I know it’s mostly a football thread – sorry. But give me your over/under for Melancon in 2010 with the Yanks: games pitched: 38. Games finished: 10.
