Coaching staff set to return in 2010

By

Via Bryan Hoch, Joe Girardi’s entire coaching staff will return next season. The contracts of Tony Pena, Rob Thomson, Mike Harkey, Dave Eiland, and Mick Kelleher had all expired after the season, however the team wanted to bring them all back and it seemed like just a matter of time before things got worked out. This isn’t much of a surprise, thought it’s good to get this wrapped up.

Meanwhile, Dave Miley and his entire Triple-A coaching staff will also return next season. Miley has guided the Scranton Yanks to the league’s best record (253-175) over the last three seasons.

Kevin Long’s contract expires when Kevin Long feels like letting it expire.

Agree with all of the coaches except Rob Thompson at 3B. He was just plain bad last year — got runners thrown out when he should have held them up and held up runners that should have scored. It seems like it was happening every week. The 3B coach should barely be noticed if they are good — people actually knew his name in the stands last year which is never a good thing really.

It was a little unrealistic to hope they’d can Thompson since he’s been in the organization for 20+ years, but really, he stunk it up last year and I was hoping they’d move him. Heck, just move him to 1B — can’t really screw that up too much.

Bobby Meachem, anyone? He was awful.

By all accounts, Thompson was a good 3B coach. The eye test doesn’t work well in this case. A little thing called the “availability heuristic.”

Meachem had 1 year as 3b coach, and was shit-canned. Everyone in the organization spoke highly of the job Thompson did last year.

I dont remember this being the case at all.

      • Section 39 says:

Then you clearly didn’t watch every game. For those who don’t got to or watch every game, a 3B coach’s mishaps could be overlooked. But if you really watched every game, he was quite bad. I remember at least 6 separate instances where he sent the runner for some dumb reason or another and got he gunned out at home — some weren’t even close plays. Other times, I cam remember 2 off the top of my head, he held AROD up at 3rd when he could have scored easily. Again, if you don’t watch every game, easy to miss the 2-3 times a month he would do dumb things — but that is too much in my book.

is 6 a lot? how about for a team that lead the world in runs?

without context, your argument is meaningless.

    • Bo says:

      How was he bad?

Did you not watch Bobby Meachem in ’08??

Re: Dave Miley Cyrus et al–of course he’s got the league best record! His staff is anchors by Kei Igawa…
