Nine reassigned to minor league camps

Yankees agree to terms with pre-arb players
Open thread: Yanks split games

On the same day we learned that the Yankees re-upped with their pre-arbitration players, we also heard of the first round of Spring Training cuts. Bryan Hoch has word of nine reassignments. Of the big names, Andrew Brackman is bound for Class A Tampa while Christian Garcia will go to Trenton and Wilkin De la Rosa will open the year in AAA. De la Rosa could very well see the Bronx later this year. Six other players — Wilkins Arias, Jeremy Bleich, Kyle Higashioka, Kei Igawa, D.J. Mitchell, Kevin Whelan — were sent to the minor league camp with no word of their ultimate assignments. At least the winningest pitcher in Scranton history will be able to improve upon his record.

    Kei Igawa=Crash Davis

Poor guy just can’t catch a break.

    • Benjamin Kabak

There’s also that problem of the little fact that he’s not very good at getting major league hitters out. I think it’s a bit more than just catching a break :)

Good to see teh Jesus still with the big guys

    • Andy (different one) in chilly NYC

Jesus stays until he decides it’s time to let someone else have a chance. The Yankees have no choise in the matter.

  • Andy (different one) in chilly NYC

    Argh! Typo!

Where’s TSJC to hand me my brew?

  • Drew

    Hmm.. If De La Rosa stays in Scranton. That means we have;

Romulo? He may be in the pen. Maybe not.

That’s an awful lot of starters in Scranton.

    • Benjamin Kabak

I think the idea is to try out Igawa as a reliever. He probably won’t be starting in Scranton this year.

      • Drew

Ahh, true. Also, I guess Z-Mac could stay in Trenton, though he certainly deserves a promotion.

        • crawdaddie

I’ll be shocked if Z-Mac isn’t starting in Scranton. You don’t hold up the progression of one your best pitching prospects for some fillers like Hirsch and Igawa. I thought Kroenke was a reliever and left the organization this winter. Also, Kontos probably will stay in Florida next month to continue his TJ rehab.

          • Drew

Oh yeah. Kroenke is a rule V guy, he’s over the with D-Backs for now. Also, I guess they gave up on him starting, he only made 2 starts this past season. My B.

    • K.B.D.

De La Rosa’s a candidate for a move to the bullpen ala Phil Coke.

      • Drew

Gotcha. But if he could get that BB rate down he could be a heck of a starter.

        • K.B.D.

His lack of a real third pitch is what hurts him more than anything else right now.

  • Greg

I guess the idea that igawa can be a loogy is done
