2010 Draft: Klaw’s Mock Draft v1.0

How the Rangers bankruptcy situation might affect A-Rod
Open Thread: A much needed day off

Now that we’re two weeks away from the big event, ESPN’s Keith Law posted his first mock draft today. He has the Yankees taking Texas high school righty Tyrell Jenkins. “I’ve heard them legitimately linked to Michigan’s Ryan LaMarre in recent weeks,” said KLaw, “but their tie to Jenkins dates back to much earlier this spring, and he’s the kind of superior athlete with upside whom Yankees scouting director Damon Oppenheimer favors.” MLB.com’s scouting report (with video!) says he’s been up to 95 with the fastball, but he’s very raw. Big arm to dream on, something the Yanks lack right now.

As for LaMarre, meh. He’s s freaky tooled up outfielder with no plate discipline and great stats in a bad conference. Not the first round, please.

    Other mock drafts:

mymlbdraft.com has the Yankees taking Gary Brown (OF, Cal St. Fullerton)

mlbbonusbaby has the Yankees taking Zach Lee (RHP, McKinney HS, TX)

reports of the yanks linked to ryan lamarre in 2010 = reports of the yanks linked to bret jackson in 2009?

  • Stryker

also, i’m wondering who could be for the yanks at 32. i don’t think there’s any way workman or ranaudo make it out of the first/first supplemental let alone be there for the yanks again at 82.

also, don’t know if this against the rules or not but: project prospect, a site linked here on RAB is an OUTSTANDING draft/prospect resource. adam and lincoln are very open minded and provide great info.

I think a lot of the scouting types are not expecting Ranaudo to be picked in first round now. He’s had injury this year and his stuff is completely in the tanks since coming back.

I would rather have AJ Cole but Tyrell Jenkins’s works for me.

      Yeah I’d want Cole too.

Looking at KLaw’s grade and future grades it appears that Tyrell Jenkins has a higher ceiling.

        • http://www.thechuckknoblog.com/ JobaWockeeZ

But probably has a bigger bust right?

          • Jake H

I would say Cole might be a little higher because he doesn’t have the fb movement that Tyrell has according to the scouting report.

    • Stryker

no way cole makes it past 20, IMO.

      • Doug

law has the angels taking him at 30

  • Reggie C.

Matt Harvey’s plus plus FB & improved game performances will get him into the 1st round, though probably in the bottom portion. Is he a good pick?

    • http://yanksdraftsandprospects.blogspot.com/ Jake H

I think he is more of a RP than a SP. I would rather the Yankees pass on him.

  • hlrjr

anyone know where nick castellanos went?

    anywhere close to the yanks?

    • http://yanksdraftsandprospects.blogspot.com/ Jake H

Nope. Keith Law says the Padres might be after him but he has him going in the top 15 picks.

Lamarr do well in the cape? Yanks have at least with their pitchers favored success there

The Big Ten is a weak baseball conference, true. But Michigan is a very successful college baseball program. We’ll see LeMarre for ourselves if Michigan makes it into the playoffs and college world series, and if you get the BTN, the Big Ten tournament games will more than likely be televised on it.

nobody watches big ten network except big ten alums. when will those crazy midwesterners realize that just because you have 100,000 people at your school doesn’t mean everybody loves you.

      i hate the big 10

  • mbonzo

Bryce Harper says he wants to be in pinstripes, does that link him to the Yankees?

    • Doug

if the yanks had the top pick, sure

Any updates on Slade Heathcoat from last year? I know they put him in extended spring training – I think – but how has he looked, will he move up, etc.

  • john

LaMarre is the biggest sleepers in the draft. Saying he plays in a weak conference is a joke. I for one hopes he doesn’t land in New York.
    We’ll see!
