The Texas Two-Step brings Yanks one win from ALCS
ByThroughout September, Yankee fans worried that the team was squandering the opportunity to secure home-field advantage in the ALDS. Yesterday, the Bombers showed everyone why it didn’t matter. Powered by seven strong innings from Andy Pettitte and a home run from his fellow Texan Lance Berkman, the Yanks downed Carl Pavano and the Twins by a score of 5-2 to take a two games-to-none lead in the best-of-five ALDS. Fittingly, Nick Swisher — or at least his Twitter handlers — called the duo “the Texas Two Step,” and I think that’s a fitting nickname. The Yanks return home on Saturday looking for just one more win to secure an ALCS berth.
We’ll have more analysis on the game in a bit.

I seriously love it when Mariano Rivera is freaking GODLY during the playoffs!!! Let’s sweep them on Saturday, Phil Hughes. Oh, and Brian Duensing has more pressure than Hughes.
I’m not going to buy into the theory that the Yankees slowed down to purposelly avoid the Rangers and get to play the Twins instead.
I’m not, I swear.
Well they will have to beat the Rangers anyway.
Alot less scary in a 7 game than a 5 game…
Meh.
same here, either way..the Rangers will give the Yanks a run should both teams advance to the CS.
My god, listening to Baseball Tonight you’d think Hunter Wendelstedt gave the game to the Yankees.
Would a stress-free sweep be too much to ask?
Probably. Because where’s the fun in that?
(Hey, happy hockey season! Go Devils!)
what’s a “hockey”?
I believe Hockey is an old, old wooden ship used during the Civil War era.
I really hope this Parise-Zajac-Kovy line works out to be one of the best in the league, they could easily break that line into a solid 1-2 with Elias and Langenbrunner. If they can combine for 80 goals this year, I’ll be happy.
My advice to you is to turn off ESPN. That network has been known to kill brain cells.
And, yes, a stress-free sweep would be fantastic.
Yea, well, you should have just heard Eckersley on TBS.

Twins were more of a benefactor from Wendelstedt’s atrocious strike zone than the Yankees were. Sure, Berkman’s double exacerbated the whole “Yankees get all the breaks” but the whole night was terrible for both sides.
Ron Gardenhire earned my vote for Manager of the Year tonight.
Getting himself thrown out on that one questionable call that cost his team both obscured all the other questionable calls that went FOR his team earlier in the game while simultaneously giving the Twins fanbase a lovely videoclip/soundbyte excuse for why they couldn’t beat the Yankees once again (“the umps are conspiring against us, it’s not fair”).
Now, it’s not the Twins fault that they’re not good enough to beat the Yankees; the “fix” is in. The Twins owners should give a raise to Gardenhire; that was a very savvy routine he executed.

Maybe they should watch the innings where Pavano was getting outside pitches called strikes that Pettitte wasn’t. Or when Pettitte had an 0-2 pitch right down the middle to Hardy and it got called a ball. Or, heck, strike 1 in the same goddamn Berkman at-bat. Plus, the pitch to Berkman right after wasn’t even a bad pitch. He just kinda Vladdied it.
And yes, a sweep sounds just lovely.
Or an extra out in the 9th inning…
Let me guess:
Replays of Berkman’s pitch: 2,182
Replays of Posey’s “stolen base”: 0
Pretty much.
When I think of Jim Thome’s championship-less plight and Tragic Field’s Twins , These lyrics came to mind…
“When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
When you’re sure you’ve had enough of this life, well hang on
Don’t let yourself go, ’cause everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes…”
that has to be the most excessively Michael Stipe-y of all REM songs
You smell like teen spirit!

Two days ago, everyone laughed at me in a team meeting because I said the Yankees didn’t need home field advantage to win the ALDS, they already had the advantage of being the New York Yankees. And now Hughes can prove me right on Saturday! (Also, I’m getting to go to the game through work! I’m so excited!)
Don’t get too excited yet… the “we’re doomed to lose this series because we don’t have HFA” nutless crackpots will be back for the ALCS and WS Game 1s, peddling their Chicken Little inanity again.
They won’t believe until it’s all over and we’re hoisting the trophy again, and then they’ll claim they knew we were the best all along.

Heh, probably.
ZOMG WE’RE GONNA BLOW THIS LEAD 20000000000000004!!!!!!!!!
If everyone laughed at you for saying that then you need to hang out with new people
It was a staff meeting. There was no choice in hanging out with those people.
The Yankees; We’re better than you and we know it.
Great win! Andy just no words the “CORE” of this team it will never stop amazing me.
Now we get two days of the Yankees hate machine reminding everyone of 2004. I see ESPN has a nice 30 for 30 film “Four Days in October” no surprise there.
Taking nothing for granted, but one more win and all the haters can go back in their holes until the next round.
I’ve been a follower of RAB for a long time although I never really commented much.. Just wanna say hello to all and the Yankees suck!! Nah just kidding! Andy Pettitte really shut a Lot of these critics up today. Idk if I was guessing or I just believed in Pettitte’s Postseason Resume but I knew he wouldn’t disappoint.. It earned me 50$ =D
For all the Yanks problems, the Twins have a bigger one.
They’re playing the Yankees.
Co sign
Well said.
