Roster Updates: Feliciano, Molina, Ayala, Garcia, Colon

Via Marc Carig, Pedro Feliciano has been diagnosed with a rotator cuff strain, which is a whole lot worse than the sore triceps he reportedly had a week or three ago. No idea if this will change his return date or anything, but obviously it’s bad news. Good thing Feliciano is different than everyone else and has proven himself to be a workhorse. Grumble grumble.

In other news, both Gustavo Molina and Luis Ayala have been added to the 25-man roster while Romulo Sanchez is officially out the door and on the way to Japan. I count 41 players on the 40-man roster right now, and that doesn’t include Freddy Garcia and Bartolo Colon. Damaso Marte will open up a spot when he’s placed on the 60-day DL, and I suppose Colin Curtis‘ shoulder injury is serious enough that he could as well. Still, that leaves one spot that has to be cleared, so another move is coming.

Update: Brian Heyman says Marte, Curtis, and Reegie Corona were all placed on the 60-day DL, so everyone’s on the 40-man now.

I’m not sure that’s true. Sure, Feliciano probably won’t pitch much this year, but even if he’d only been on a one year contract that would have been the case. Is he really less likely to pitch next year than some other LOOGY that the Yankees could sign next off season? Because of the volatility of relievers, even one year deals aren’t safe.

The only truly bad deals would be multi-year deals with a player opt out after each season.

No, we picked up the Mets very effective LOOGY for $8MM which was a questionable move because relievers on long term deals is rarely a good idea.

Not counting on pedro at all this year

Marte will reappear in aug and be lights out loogy

Also man ban will be in AAA by jun and a sept call up as logan turns back into the old boone logan this year.
Yankees continue the joba treatment as man ban comes out of the pen ( Fransessa will proclaim we have found a future replacement for Mo)
Look for Prior in the second half as colon will be long gone

Garcia is last years javy and gone by playoffs
This is Joba,s year as he will be the joba of old resulting in cashman trading him for a big ticket starter for the playoffs ( king felix anyone)
Hughes will be hit hard this year
