Dickerson day-to-day after CT scan comes back normal
ByUpdate (6:04pm): Feinsand says Dickerson is day-to-day and Joe Girardi is unlikely to use him tonight. Good news.
Original Post (4:00pm): Via Mark Feinsand, Chris Dickerson‘s CT scan came back normal, though the team has not yet confirmed what’s next for him. Dickerson left last night’s game after being hit by the head with a Mike Gonzalez pitch in the 15th inning. Hopefully he can avoid the new seven-day concussion disabled list, but they won’t screw around with a head injury. More details to come, at some point.

Best wishes and God bless the kid. Better to take a week off than live in lala land for the rest of your life.
Hope Chris is ok. Best wishes to him, it’s never a good thing to have players hit near/on the head.
By the way, is anyone else getting a pop-up on RAB saying “start below the fold”?
No “start below the fold” for me.
There’s a pretty incredible close-up video of the incident on youtube (WARNING: it’s graphic, both in the beaning itself and the language that follows by some fans).

Anyway, based on how that looked (and sounded), I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes on the DL. Wow!
When I first saw it, it looked REALLY bad. But the instant replay showed that the ball hit the bill of the helmet which took most of the impact. It could have been much, much worse. The commentary on the video is hilarious by the way.
That’s a concussion.
Great news. That young man needs to be cautious and we wish him all the best. He needn’t worry, CC will make sure the Orioles pay for this.
I would rather he did not. By all accounts, it was not deliberate. Let’s let it drop and hope that Dickerson is OK.
I hope CC makes them ‘pay’ by pitching a perfect game on 50 pitches
Get well Chris! It could have been so much worse. Way to tuck that chin just in time before the baseball went in for a kiss!!
Hey, does anyone think M. Gonzalez meant to hit him? Werid game…
No way it was intentional. Gonzalez just hasn’t been pitching well for some time.
The target on the pitch was outside. He clearly released the ball way too soon, hence it went exactly where it was not supposed to go.
Yeah no way Gonzalez intended to hit Dickerson. If he intended to hit someone…
a) why would it be in the head, Gonzalez doesn’t have a head-hunter reputation
b) why would it be Chris Dickerson?
He got thrown out so fast. While M.Kay, another non-player like me, questioned why the ump tossed him, Kenny said, something like, “Well, we dont know what he might have heard, maybe something was said”. I like when Kenny is in the booth, at least you can get a player perspective…
But I agree that it was not a situation for head-hunting and MG sucks right now. I remember when he was a teammate of Levine’s Soriano and was nails back in the day…
The ejection was frankly b.s. Umpire clearly overreacted. I would have been really pissed if I was Showalter last night.
Or Guthrie. I wonder when the last time a tomorrow starter came into a game in extras with his team trailing.
Gonzalez has control issues.
He couldn’t hit him in the head if he tried.
Since he did hit him in the head he wasn’t trying.
Thanks god
From just a human perspective, he has to be one of, if not the worst guys this could have happened to. An established player wouldn’t want to miss time, of course, but wouldn’t have the added fear of losing his tenuous hold on a roster spot. Hopefully they take no chances and 7 day DL him.
Call up Slade to AAA!!!
It looks like it’s just a matter of time before Dickerson is placed on the 7-day DL, as he has a concussion. From Marc Carig….
“Meanwhile, outfielder Chris Dickerson has a concussion after he took a fastball off his batting helmet in the 15th inning last night. He’s listed as day to day. He came to the park in good spirits but had a splitting headache. Dickerson said he’s had trouble sleeping.”
Don’t you dare play him, Girardi
If the book says play him both the book & Joe need to go.
FWIW, I’m convinced that the book is actually a voice memo from Cashman that tells him what to do. (i.e. “Joe, have Larry approach Colon & tell him it’s “Mo-time” & he needs to hit the shower in case this sh!t blows up in our faces the cameras won’t be on his fat face”).
