Yankees sign Randy Flores to minor league deal

Via Ken Rosenthal, the Yankees have signed lefty reliever Randy Flores to a minor league contract. Joel Sherman says he has an opt-out clause that kicks in sometime before the All-Star break, which is to be expected. I wrote about him just yesterday, noting that he doesn’t have the greatest of numbers against left-handed batters in his career, but all he needs to do is be better than Andy Sisco. The conclusion: “If he does [sign with the Yankees], great, if not then no big deal. He probably won’t pitch all that well anyway.” Nothing wrong with Triple-A depth.

Cashman and Girardi are totally off the hook. We all retract all the nasty things we’ve been saying about you.

A 30-game winning streak starts tonight. Book it.

  4. Gil L says:

    line-up shake-up!

less than 10 games into the season, tito francona dropped crawford to the no. 8 spot. the 142-million dollar prize, a successful hitter histriocally – down to no. 8! (strangely enough, he didn’t ask out of the game…)
sadly, tito has guts and a commitment to winning that is lacking in the yankees organization, which has adopted the philosophy of “everything will work itself out, just because”.
deciding a line-up based on past success, clout and honor is a joke. girardi doesn’t even have the guts to try. cashman seems to be more than happy to play bad cop, but i don’t sense any fire coming from the bench.
what killed the yanks in the later torre years and 2008 is repeated – lac of accountability.

  5. Rob Thomsen's Chili Farts says:

Are Jeter and Posada ok with this?

  6. Rob Thomsen's Chili Farts says:

I hope CC doesn’t ask out of his next start!

  7. Billy Mumphrey says:

This won’t help at all. What Cashman needs to do is give Girardi an ultimatum- Win or you’re fired.

  8. LockDown says:

Who cares if he can pitch, can he hit? :/

  9. Rookie says:

If there’s anything in his stats that should provide us with any reason to believe he’s likely to contribute anything, I can’t find it.
