Jeter out with right knee contusion, he and A-Rod likely out Monday

Update (10:44pm): X-rays on the kneecap came back negative, but Jeter is unlikely to play tomorrow. In other news, Alex Rodriguez was unavailable tonight and is also unlikely to play tomorrow because his sore thumb is acting up again. The Yankees aren’t in a position where they need these two every single game, so let them rest up and get healthy.

Original (7:48pm): Derek Jeter was a very, very late scratch from tonight’s game because of a right knee contusion. He fouled a ball off his knee in the first game of the doubleheader, but managed to finish the game. Wasn’t all that hard to do since he was the DH. No idea on the extent of the injury, but hopefully it’s a day-to-day thing.

Oh, brother. The left side of the infield is getting creaky and achy.

    Hurry back, Jeter.

    • Mr. Wallace says:

Well agreed. The bats already seemed to be dead from the first game today, minus two good hitters and they’re screwed. At least I expect to see Nova do well.

  2. The Big City of Dreams says:

    SMH fuck

  3. Brian S. says:

A-Rod is getting annoying with all these injuries. When was the last time he was healthy for an entire year? 2007?

    • Jesse says:

Yep. Ever since he signed that ridiculous 10 year deal, he’s missed more than his fair share of time on the DL.

      • Andrew518 says:

Steroids + age = fall apart.

        2017? yikes!!

Which comes first, retirement or buy out?

We’ve got a few years to ponder this but it really seems unlikely that he’ll be able to finsih out the contract in entirety.

My fear is that even little things with A-Rod turn into controversy, If you think Posada getting old is bad, this really is going to turn ugly.

I suggest A-Rod to DH teach Montero to play 3B Sanchez/Romine catcher(s) of the future, or move Texireia to third and put Montero at first but that seems even more unlikely to my suggestion, which won’t happen, but food for thought anyway.

        • Jesse says:

A-Rod stays the entire contract, and I doubt they’ll buy him out, but that is a LONG ways from now. Anything can happen. But whether we like it or not, age and past steroid use (2001-2003) is hurting him and he’ll continue to miss a month of games each season.

          • Andrew518 says:

No real point in debate because he’s the only one who knows for sure, but I buy the argument that he only used in Texas as but as much as I buy MacGwire’s argument that he only took steroids to recover from injuries (and not for power)

    • theyankeewarrior says:

Joe Mauer hits a grounder to third and A-Rod is out for a week.

      Does not compute.

  4. Roland Deschain says:

I think Nova and Nunez should finish 1-2 in the ROY balloting for the job they’ve done for us this year. Nova just notched his 14th W tonight and Nunez has filled in admirably for the old and brittle left side of the infield.

  5. JoeMoes says:

    Hellickson isn’t eligible.

  6. theyankeewarrior says:

A-Rod needs some time off because he hasn’t had enough the past three years. Good to know that our 30M 3B has already turned into an under-100 games/year player.

And there’s only 6 more years on his deal.
