The End of an Era: Yankees release Burt Reynolds
ByIt was just too good to be true. Less than one week after signing him, the Yankees have released Burt Reynolds according to Kevin Goldstein. His Twitter account also appears to have disappeared off the face of the internet, which is the real tragedy in all of this. So long Burt, we’ll always always have that river in Georgia.

NOOOO
What happ the alarm clock didn’t go off? Did they pull his cot out into the parking lot like Willie Mays Hayes? Lol
“You may act like Reynolds but you hit like shit.”
Nice
+1000
maybe he will run in slow motion and get his job back
They gave him the red card.
Or Cervelli gave him a fake red card, Reynolds attacked Cervelli and they both got arrested. The Tampa police found out that his real name was not actually Burt Reynolds by Carlos Rodriguez after some intensive background checks, and he was sent home to the DR to face time in the slammer. (plus fined for all of the Burt Reynolds shirts that will have to be taken off the shelves) Now he is doomed to end up in the same purgatory where Leo Nunez and Fausto Carmona will end up one day.
We need to start a “Free Burt Reynolds” campaign…
: Give me a diablo sandwich, a Dr. Pepper, and make it quick, I’m in a god-damn hurry.
I thought they built a dam on that river.
So what was the point of that signing?
Hilarity.
Haha, pretty much. Doubt they even sign him if he was named “John Bowen” or something.
Did anyone ever see him? I believe he was a phantom player, a joke that got out of hand.
He was like Sidd Finch minus the talent.
After he was released, someone saw him speeding away in a black ’77 Trans Am.
I guess it’s pretty hard to stay anonymous when you’re the world’s greatest secret agent.
What’s tragic is I almost punched you in the face! (No you didn’t)
great show.
He was like Susie. He never existed!
Cashman at the going away party: I don’t think I’ll be ever able to forget Burt. Most of all, I’ll never forget that one night, working late in the front office. Just the two of us. And we surrendered to sweet temptation.
so disappointing
Didn’t Cano have his career year right after Melky left…just saying.
He was pretty great in 2009 too.
I’m distraught.
smokey’s got dem ears on
I was envisioning a Yankeeography in like 20 years.
“The Yankees have had a storied tradition of players. Ruth, Gehrig, Dimaggio, Mantle, Jeter, Harper (you all know he will be on the team in a few years) and now Reynolds.”
The end of an era indeed.
If the Nationals ever lose Harper, especially when he lived up to his expectations, you can just fire the Front Office instantly.
Harper listed playing for the Yankees as one of his career goals
MSG ran a half hour show last night on Jeremy Lin’s Greatest 25 Moments which is pretty hilarious because that’s more Knicks games than he’s played in (in fact, he’s only played in a bunch more Knicks games than I have…)
So there’s still hope for a Burt Reynolds Yankeeography.
*cue some melancholy banjos*
Has anyone heard when the Yankees are going to do Burt Reynolds day at the Stadium?
After the team refusal to do Jon Voight day, I am not expecting a Burt Reynolds one.
nice.
P.S. I eat candy bars with a knife and a fork.
I have most of Burt’s better tweets screencapped going back to around Thanksgiving time. Doing that was a good decision.
You can probably sell those, or re-host them and start a thriving web community.
In other news Yanks sign his black child side kick from cop and a half
Why did they sign him, then?
Cash can now list “signed Burt Reynolds” on his resume or his autobiography.
End of the Turd, nothing across.
Paddle faster. I hear banjoes.
They discovered he was actually 76 years old. The toupee fooled them for a while
I wonder if he gets some sort of benefits for being signed. Maybe a couple grand or something. Was probably just to do the kid a favor and show Cano some goodwill.
The Yankees released him AND his twitter disappears? I smell conspiracy.
