2012 Draft: Yankees sign 7th and 8th round picks

Via K. Levine-Flandrup, the Yankees have officially signed seventh round pick RHP Taylor Garrison from Fresno State. Slot money for this pick is $145k, but Garrison likely signed for much less as one of those draft pool saving college senior picks. He’s a low-to-mid-90s fastball-cutter reliever with a curveball and changeup that he’ll probably scrap as a pro. I expect him to join Short Season Staten Island later this month.

In other news, eighth rounder OF Taylor Dugas has signed as well; his lady friend posted a picture of him signing his contract on Twitter. Slot money for this pick is just shy of $132k, but again he’s a draft pool saving college senior. Dugas is a speedy leadoff type out of Alabama, and earlier today we heard Keith Law say he “would be very surprised if (Dugas) didn’t hit his way to some kind of major-league role.” Expect him to join Garrison in Staten Island.

Also, 33rd rounder Saxon Butler has apparently signed based on his Twitter feed. I’m curious to see if the Yankees will use the left-handed masher from Samford at first base or behind the plate. All of New York’s picks can be seen at Baseball America.

How I can keep half these names from becoming a giant blur once they start reporting to SI and showing up on DOTF?

    • Paul VuvuZuvella

      Just call them Taylor.

I was thinking similar. I followed last year’s draft closely, but many of the players didn’t sign right away, and then played in extended ST, so almost a year would go by before some started showing up in game action, and I had no memory of them at all. Hopefully less of a problem this year as many can go right in to real minor league games with the signing deadline moved up to July. We’re already seeing quicking signings.

One suggestion to the RAB team. Maybe a permanent link to a page showing the players the Yankees finally sign would be great. That way when reading DOTF, those who are interested can get a quick reminder of who was drafted and when.

Can we just start calling Vincent Jackson, “Bo?”

wow I wonder how rare this is

Corey Black was drafted 157 overall in the 4th round

BA ranked him the 157th best overall player

Happened to Mason Williams a couple years ago as well.

Mason Williams was ranked 145th by BA and drafted 145th overall. Also signed for $1.45M.

Mike – I think you meant to say Saxon “Butler”, not Saxon “Holt”.

By the way, pick #35 Buck Farmer said that he is not signing and returning back to college for his senior year. So he joins pick #30 Raph Rhymes in returning back to college.

    • Fernando

Correction. The #35 pick is KYLE Farmer and he’s returning back to college. Got the name mixed up with his Georgia Tech teammate Buck Farmer (a pitcher) who was drafted by Milwaukee.
