Injury Updates: Robertson, Gardner Joba

2012 Draft: Zach Eflin
Game 52: Another Youngster

Got a bunch of injury updates, courtesy of Joe Girardi via Meredith Marakovits

  • David Robertson (oblique) threw a bullpen session today and everything went well. He’ll presumably throw a few more bullpens before appearing in a minor league rehab game or three.
  • Brett Gardner (elbow) hit in the batting cage today. Girardi said yesterday that he could return as soon as next weekend. Gardner still needs to take batting practice on the field and get a few minor league rehab games in.
  • Joba Chamberlain (elbow and ankle) threw off a half-mound today, your holy cow moment of the afternoon. We’re not even three full months out from his ankle injury, so this is pretty amazing. He still has a long way to go though, remember Joba’s coming back from a rather significant elbow procedure. Still, great news.
  • David Aardsma (elbow) threw 20 fastballs in a live batting practice session today, his first time facing hitters since having Tommy John surgery last summer.

    Joba is a man.

    Joba is literally a robot.

    I miss Gardner.

    • vin

Maybe he should be an umpire then?

    • Robinson Tilapia

A robot that smells of stale PBR and pork rinds.

      • jjyank

        My kind of robot.

  • vin

So let’s get this straight… Joba didn’t have any pain prior to getting TJS, and now he is throwing off a mound two months after an open dislocation of his right (push) ankle? He’s such a badass.

  • Fin

Joba is just a beast. How can you not put that tough son of a bitch in the rotation?

    • G

Because he gets hurt constantly anyway. He’s a beast, but a fragile one.

      • Kevin Winters

But if he’s going to get hurt regardless why not get the most out of him by making him a starter. I know they won’t do it though

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

I’m assuming most of the sentiment is sarcastic, but the bullpen needs Joba more than the rotation does.

    • Kevin Winters

They can put Hughes in the pen.

    • Manny’s BanWagon

“but the bullpen needs Joba more than the rotation does.”

Yeah because behind CC and 40 year old Andy Pettitte, the trio of Kuroda, Hughes and Nova has been downright dominant with their combined 0.8 WAR a third of the way through the season.

      • Robinson Tilapia

…..and expecting a Joba Chamberlain still not yet recovered from elbow and ankle surgery to be the answer to that is beyond wishful thinking. I think you do realize that, though.

  • Betty Lizard

There were times when I wanted Joba to be traded. Now I miss the big lunk. I admire his obstinacy and durability. Those can be great qualities in a pitcher.

JOBA TO THE ROTATION FUCK MUSTANG HE’S A MORON.

  • Robinson Tilapia

I honestly don’t care where Joba pitches. I just fucking miss the guy. *sniff* *sniff*

  • M-Three

Good to hear some positive news about our injuried relievers. Once we get Robertson back and at least 1 of Joba or Aardsma our bullpen will be back to top form. Its not the same without Mo but a 7/8/9 of Joba/Aardsma, D-Rob and Soriano can match or top most teams in baseball.

    • JonS

Problem is the (currently) shitty group trying to get it to the 7th.
