You mean the Brett Gardner that has had 3 AB’s since April AND has a weak arm? That’s the guy you want to put in RF? Don’t get me wrong Swish has been awful, but Gardner is not the answer.
I’m not sure weak arm should be a deciding factor here.
Gardner’s arm, while somewhat weak, is effective because of getting to the ball quickly, quick release, and pretty good accuracy.
Swisher’s arm is neither strong nor effective.
Anyways, if that was the sub, Gardner would play LF and Ichiro RF.
That I would be okay with IF Gardner was given a chance to show he could hit the ball.
It would be a nice option to have, but Gardner’s bat is a complete unknown at this point.
If they advance, I really wouldn’t mind them taking the shot though. If nothing else, it would strengthen the OF defense, particularly useful in Comerica.
Only reason I assume he is in while arod rides pine is he doesn’t want to put ibanez in RF to cover for him, and Gardner’s bat at this point is an unknown. I would rather take the unknown over the known though…
Something just hit me…how is it fair that the 3 seed gets a day off between the LCS meanwhile the 1 seed (in this case the Yankees) don’t if each series goes 5 games.

It is weird because the normal replays it doesnt look like it hit the foul pole at all but when they showed the side angle and blow it up while slowing it down it does look like it might have hit the pole. But in the normal angle it looks impossible that the ball hit the pole cause it wouldve had to hit the back of the pole.
No way did that hit the pole. Even if it just nicks it you would still see a change of direction by the ball even if it just barely touched it. Ball was foul. CC got away with one. Hunker down and give them nothing else!
This was good because now Buck showed his collar getting tight. The O’s will get a little more desperate.

It’s simply a optical illusion caused by frame-by-frame advance which shows multiple images of the ball as it passes the pole.

First of all, that was not even a strike on the TBS zone.
Second, the TBS zone is like PitchFX, in that it includes the rulebook zone of knees to letters. So if it hits the top of the TBS zone, it is at the letters, which is pretty much never a strike anymore.

CC usually goes about 100-120 pitches and since Soriano pitched 2 innings yesterday. Girardi is going to let CC go as long as he can.
Game is too close to screw around. If Sabathia is cruising, let him throw the 120 to finish it if he’s not in any trouble. I’d rather do that and limit him to 90-100 pitches on short rest next time out than the other way around.
CC’s currently at 82 pitches so I think he should just finish this. Another 10-15 pitches should make no difference to him.

Granderson’s swings looked much better in his first few at bats in this game, and his plate discipline was slowly coming back last night. Was only a matter of time.
Now they just have to get A-Rod going again and they could be dangerous.

Swisher has been hitting a lot of balls hard, just right at guys. His at bats have been good enough for the most part.
Cano’s struggles are likely in part because they won’t throw him anything to hit with the entire lineup slumping around him. If other guys start to get hot, that might change.
Also Cano extends the zone on himself when he isn’t getting pitched to. He likes to hit and doesn’t like to walk.
I think sitting him today as well as the joy of going to the ALCS will go a long way to getting him going if it’s mental. If it’s his hand lingering and he’s trying to play through it, there’s nothing he can do. Realistically, I’d write the same line up tomorrow, only I’d put Alex between Ibanez and Swisher and at 3rd base.
ARod plays tomorrow – if the lead holds – and bats 6th.
