ALDS Game Five Spillover Thread

There’s your run, CC.

Categories : Game Threads, Playoffs

  1. Karl Krawfid says:

1 run won’t win this game.

Swish should be on the bench.

  2. Eddard says:

That’s the only run CC is gonna get. He must shut them down and not allow a run. If he can only go 7, so be it, Drob and Soriano have been lights out but he cannot allow a run because there are no more coming.

  3. djyank says:

cc should go the distance. he is better than sori……..even after 8 innings of work

  4. CUYanks says:

CC at 57 pitches through 5. Take us home, big man.

  5. dkidd says:

hammel threw a lot of pitches that inning

let’s bust it open in the 6th

  6. ThatstheMelkyMesaWaysa says:

How bout this small ball? Makes me feel so out of place.

  7. awesomeo says:

We gotta get 2-3 runs in one shot because I’m sure buck has hammel on a very short leash.

  8. your mom says:

    Need a shutdown inning here.

  9. Cuso says:

I bet TBS is waiting until the 8th inning to do their Monday Night Raw swerve. Ripken comes out of the booth to pinch-hit because Smoltz is announced as the new GM of Yankee Stadium.

  10. Anthony says:

We made Hammel pitch last inning hope that got to him a little.

  11. Karl Krawfid says:

CC is getting no calls away.

    Hammel is getting everything.

  12. David N says:

That should have been a strike.

  13. Mick taylor says:

Where are all the swisher fans this choke king hits into a double play and costs us a run. If girardi wants to win this game he needs to pull swisher and put gardner out there

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

You mean the Brett Gardner that has had 3 AB’s since April AND has a weak arm? That’s the guy you want to put in RF? Don’t get me wrong Swish has been awful, but Gardner is not the answer.

      • Need Pitching & Hitting says:

I’m not sure weak arm should be a deciding factor here.
Gardner’s arm, while somewhat weak, is effective because of getting to the ball quickly, quick release, and pretty good accuracy.
Swisher’s arm is neither strong nor effective.

Anyways, if that was the sub, Gardner would play LF and Ichiro RF.

        • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

That I would be okay with IF Gardner was given a chance to show he could hit the ball.

          • Need Pitching & Hitting says:

It would be a nice option to have, but Gardner’s bat is a complete unknown at this point.

If they advance, I really wouldn’t mind them taking the shot though. If nothing else, it would strengthen the OF defense, particularly useful in Comerica.

    • awesomeo says:

Only reason I assume he is in while arod rides pine is he doesn’t want to put ibanez in RF to cover for him, and Gardner’s bat at this point is an unknown. I would rather take the unknown over the known though…

  14. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

Something just hit me…how is it fair that the 3 seed gets a day off between the LCS meanwhile the 1 seed (in this case the Yankees) don’t if each series goes 5 games.

  15. David N says:

An Orioles-Nats World Series, you say? Hmm, I’m not so keen.

  16. Tom says:

2-0 slider, 3-1 slider… Martin gets himself in favorable counts and rather than just sit on a fastball, he’s swinging at offspeed stuff.

The Yankees have done this a lot. Even if it’s a strike, it’s OK to take a pitch in those counts.

    • The Real Greg says:

That’s because Martin was not thrown a fastball at all. Hammel was throwing basically all off speed to Martin

      • Tom says:

Then either take it or sit on the damn pitch – he was fooled 3-1 and had a check swing.

Also, the 2-1 was a fastball. So by “at all” you mean…

If he was sitting slider 3-1, then that should not have been a check swing where he was fooled by it.

  17. Ethan says:

Yankee stadium, in the words of Samuel L Jackson: Wake the FUCK up!

  18. Karl Krawfid says:

    Go talk to CC please.

    Missing up a lot.

  19. The Real Greg says:

See what I mean. Someone is going to have to really hit it hard to drive into this wind and weather.

  20. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

  21. Eddard says:

DO NOT CHALLENGE MCCLOUTH! HE IS THEIR ONLY HITTER! Are they watching the games?

  22. David N says:

    Wow, just foul.

  23. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    omg sofa king close

  24. TomH says:

Don’t like all these 3-ball counts.

  25. The Real Greg says:

    Replay shows its foul.

  26. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

guyz?! HOmer? Foul? PLease?! John Sterling is useless!!

  27. Hummingbird S. says:

    that’s foul…barely

  28. BigBlueAL says:

    That ball was foul.

  29. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Walk him if you have to CC.
Don’t let their only hot hitter beat you.

  30. Pat D says:

I thought that was fair. Then I saw the replay and saw it was barely foul.

  31. oldmanalex currently benchwarming says:

    that shit is foul.

  32. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

You could see the shadow of the ball reflect off the foul pole. That close.

  33. David N says:

Or, might have hit the pole.

  34. Hummingbird S. says:

I wonder why the Yankees have so much trouble with Nate McLouth

  35. Ethan says:

    Foul, definitely foul.

  36. Karl Krawfid says:

    wow just foul.

They really need to talk to CC. His missing a lot now.

  37. Frigidevil says:

Aww shit it hit the pole

  38. Eddard says:

It may have nicked the foul pole. Why you would give McClouth anything to drive is beyond me. He’s their only guy hitting.

  39. Tom says:

Smoltz is a fucking embarrassment. (pardon the language)

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

Ha, that language is light compared to most stuff here. But I tend to agree, regardless of what was actually said.

    • Ethan says:

That shit was foul. No question Smoltz is an embarrassment. Fuck the language!

      • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

He called it fair? Sorry stuck on the radio.

        • Tom says:

He started real time thinking it was fair (before the replay) then went to “it was over the pole” (after one replay) than it was “maybe it ticked the pole”.

He was basically trying to talk himself into all the different scenarios where it could be a HR.

  40. David N says:

    Everyone exhale.

  41. Matt says:

I honestly cannot tell whether that hit the pole or not. It was just too close.

  42. Tom says:

You are not allowed to argue after a replay… get Buck off the field (or toss him)

  43. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

It did look like the ball changed direction slightly.

  44. jay says:

I think it hit the pole…caught a break.

  45. awesomeo says:

    Don’t jinx sabathias mojo!

  46. Anthony says:

Theres no question of whether it nicked the foul pole. It DIDN’T. I hate this booth. Nice job CC strike McClouth’s ass out.

  47. The Real Greg says:

Luck Point #2: Ball that McClouth hits, barely, and we mean barely goes foul and he k’s on the next pitch.

In the luck category: 2-0 Yankees

  48. BigBlueAL says:

It is weird because the normal replays it doesnt look like it hit the foul pole at all but when they showed the side angle and blow it up while slowing it down it does look like it might have hit the pole. But in the normal angle it looks impossible that the ball hit the pole cause it wouldve had to hit the back of the pole.

  49. Ethan says:

No way did that hit the pole. Even if it just nicks it you would still see a change of direction by the ball even if it just barely touched it. Ball was foul. CC got away with one. Hunker down and give them nothing else!

  50. Cuso says:

This was good because now Buck showed his collar getting tight. The O’s will get a little more desperate.

And we can step on their throats with 2 more runs here.

  51. JScott says:

It’s simply a optical illusion caused by frame-by-frame advance which shows multiple images of the ball as it passes the pole.

  52. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

Guys, all the bullshit aside..we’re 9 outs away from the ALCS.

  53. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Chavez, stop taking hittable pitches.

  54. BigBlueAL says:

Right now no Yankee 3B can get a hit.

  55. David N says:

Chavez doing his best A-Rod impression.

  56. Hall and Nokes says:

TBS, it’s your own damn fault you couldn’t come up with an angle showing that it hit the pole.

  57. David N says:

View from the blimp shows it did not hit the pole.

  58. Karl Krawfid says:

That was Chavez’ last at bat

  59. your mom says:

    Mo to close!!!

  60. dkidd says:

    hit and run, please

  61. Cy Pettitte says:

  74. Knoxvillain says:

“Ichiro has hit three balls out of the infield.”

Maybe Ichiro heard you. This just gave the Yankees the win with the way CC is pitching. I gotta call out of work tomorrow now. Shit.

  75. Pat D says:

Anyone surprised Buck isn’t making a move here?

  76. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Ichiro could have hit a homerun there, but decided not to.

  77. David N says:

Also, I thought that was out. Ball really not carrying.

  78. Joe says:

He axia ichiro has more big hits in one series than swisher has has in his whole yankees career. But but he walks.

    • vicki says:

      ingles, por favor?

seriously, this blog emphasizes advanced metrics. why are you here?

nobody thinks on his deathbed “i wish i’d spent more time trolling.”

  79. Hans Moleman says:

Ichi shouldn’t run with Robbie up.

  80. Ethan says:

    Do not run Ichiro!

  81. Tom says:

I must say given that Cal has been in the O’s organization he’s far superior to Smoltz.

He’ll call the O’s by their first name, and give the commentary through the eyes of an O’s hitter or pitcher, but when something bad goes against the O’s he’ll still analyze the play and do his job.

Smoltz on the other hand channels his inner Hawk Harrelson and goes mute.

/OK, I’ll stop ranting on Smoltz now

  82. awesomeo says:

Cano being more patient. Good sign.

  83. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

You gotta be shitting me, fuck this ump.

  84. Pat D says:

    Are you fucking kidding me?

  85. Pat D says:

    Are you fucking kidding me?

  86. awesomeo says:

    Worst “strike” I’ve seen.

  87. your mom says:

    Wow, fuck this ump!

  88. oldmanalex currently benchwarming says:

man the more i watch ichi play… what a pick up by cashman. that dude WANTS to be in the postseason, unlike all the other chokers.

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

You’re right, none of these players want to be here. They would have preferred to be eliminated in the Wild Card game.

  89. MattJasp says:

Welp, that wasn’t an awful call or anything on Cano

  90. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    umpires suck

  91. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

CC’s had that same pitch called a ball on easily 2 different times.

  92. The Real Greg says:

Anyone with a good K-zone call that. Because the TBS zone said that was a strike

    • awesomeo says:

It wasn’t a strike from what the ump has been calling all night, and that is what matters. It was high.

    • Matt says:

First of all, that was not even a strike on the TBS zone.

Second, the TBS zone is like PitchFX, in that it includes the rulebook zone of knees to letters. So if it hits the top of the TBS zone, it is at the letters, which is pretty much never a strike anymore.

  93. Matt says:

Each HP ump is just worse than the next. That pitch is only a strike on Cano there in one of the biggest moments of the game. Disgraceful.

  94. PreserveTheJoba says:

You braves. you go cal ripken jr

  95. BigBlueAL says:

This freacking plate ump is annoying the shit out of me.

  96. CUYanks says:

Jason Hammel was destined not to make it a full 6! (hasn’t since 7/7)

  97. Tom says:

    Ridiculous call.

Yankees winning in spite of the jackass behind homeplate

  98. Dan in Athens says:

Once they go to Patton, you do pinch hit here, and likely ARod.

  99. The Real Greg says:

Decision time: Pinch hit ARod for Ibanez with the lefty Patton in

  100. Eddard says:

PH Arod! That pitch to Cano was above the belt. Awful call.

  101. David N says:

Hate to say it, but going by the definition of the strike zone, that’s a strike.

  102. The Real Greg says:

So gameday and TBS say that that was a strike.

  103. Cy Pettitte says:

    PH Nix

  104. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

Unless Darren O’Day is warming, I’d pinch hit Alex here…Already a 2 run game, LHP on the mound…give him a chance to build some confidence?

  105. Ethan says:

Pitch hit with Arod. Next inning ichiro to RF, Gardner to LF

  106. your mom says:

No matter what happens: Girardi,”I had a gut feeling.”

  107. Cy Pettitte says:

this is so stupid. it 100% didn’t hit the pole.

  108. oldmanalex currently benchwarming says:

not to be a mole, but someone at CAMDEN CHAT posted this….

” I posted this earlier, but I’m not sure everyone saw it. Worth a repost.
OK, I’m going to go off here for a minute, if nothing else just to cleanse my soul a bit…

How can ANYONE root for this bunch of TOOLS? I mean even Yankee fans themselves, a large majority of them being tools themselves, were turning on these clowns before they BABIP’d their why to a division championship. How much $$$$ do you have to spend, Hal? $200M? $250M? When’s the last time they have a bona fide MLB player come through their system that actually lived up to his hype? (Correct Answer: Cano, but he’s pushing 30 now). Every last player on that team is either bought or old, or in a lot of cases BOTH! How much talent does it take to cut a check, really? And yet, all anyone wants to talk about is how great they are. MY DOG COULD RUN A TEAM WITH THE RESOURCES THESE CLOWNS HAVE AT THEIR DISPOSAL!

And you know what? They are a bunch of TOOLS! Teixeira? Martin? Swisher? A-ROID?!? I have never seen a more unlikeable bunch of athletes on one team in my life (except for this year Penguins team). Shoo, it even goes into their press box! Sterling is the WORST homer in all of baseball. I’m so glad I don’t have to listen to his insanity on the airwaves even if it’s just letting my radio scanning for a signal. Mel Allen is turning in his grave whenever that tool calls a game for them.

But you know what? It’s OK. They will NEVER experience anything CLOSE to what we have this year, even if they win buy the next 20 titles, because they KNOW it’s tainted. Tainted by an exploitation that should have been done away with years ago. And if they don’t, they’re delusional. And a tool.

OK, rant over. I feel better now….”

    it made me mad….

  109. Knoxvillain says:

When will Craig Sager realize it is not the 1960s? He dresses like a jack off.

  110. awesomeo says:

I would leave ibanez in personally.

  111. Dan in Athens says:

Joe must want Ibanez in case johnson gets in

  112. Angry Scheister of K's says:

C’mon Raul…show them your old man power!

  113. your mom says:

    Eat shit Patton!

  114. Karl Krawfid says:

    Raul really?

  115. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Alright Carsten, let’s do this, you big sexy bitch.

  116. Eddard says:

Good move not to PH for Ibanez. Raul is one of your only guys hitting. Save Alex if they bring in a lefty for Chavy.

  117. The Real Greg says:

2 runs should be enough against an Orioles offense that coming in to today was hitting .197 as a team.

  118. Cuso says:

An usher told me the world was going to end today…

  119. Karl Krawfid says:

Pitches are up still for CC.

    Not good.

  120. David N says:

Hammel gets the call just off the corner, why not CC?

    • awesomeo says:

Yeah, getting pretty old. I understand all umps call different strike zones (right or wrong), I just want consistancy.

  121. Cuso says:

An usher told me WWE was real…..

  122. Cuso says:

An usher told me TBS was the most unbiased coverage in professional sports.

  123. Bill R says:

    Lovin me some C.C!

  124. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

6 outs away boys, and CC’s CRUIZIN!

  125. The Real Greg says:

    Worried now, Karl?

  126. Matt says:

If CC can keep this up, Girardi has an interesting dilemma.

Do you try to have him throw a CG and save the bullpen for the ALCS, in which you might have to go to a 5th starter or start Kuroda on short rest?

Or do you pull CC at 95-100 pitches and try to bring him back on short rest in Game 3 so he can pitch Game 7, while maybe using Soriano for an inning?

    • Ethan says:

You win this game, at all costs.

    • The Real Greg says:

CC usually goes about 100-120 pitches and since Soriano pitched 2 innings yesterday. Girardi is going to let CC go as long as he can.

    • Mike Axisa says:

Game is too close to screw around. If Sabathia is cruising, let him throw the 120 to finish it if he’s not in any trouble. I’d rather do that and limit him to 90-100 pitches on short rest next time out than the other way around.

    • RkyMtnYank says:

CC’s currently at 82 pitches so I think he should just finish this. Another 10-15 pitches should make no difference to him.

    • Tom says:

No dilemna…. the big man pitches as long as he is effective (regardless of pitch count).

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

How many pitches has he thrown? I mean if he’s already at 90 then he has a dilemma. But if he’s at like 80 then He’ll only throw like 105 for the game.

  127. dkidd says:

  128. Alex Rodriguez says:

Hey Guys, im bored. Just thought Id check in with you. Watcha talkin about?

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

I think Joe should’ve pinch hit you for Raul last inning, but not a huge deal right?

  129. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Good thing CC is a strong, big dude.

He’s carrying just about the entire team on his back.

  130. Tabbert says:

CC! six more outs to go!! Lets go this baby.

  131. BigBlueAL says:

6 more outs to go. Let CC finish which will gave DRob and Sori a much needed day off before the ALCS starts tomorrow.

  132. Cuso says:

An usher told me this meme has legs.

  133. Alex Rodriguez says:

Yeah no worries with C.C. fellas, I spoke to him last inning. He said he ate his usual box of capn’ crunch before the game, and one extra for good measure.

  134. your mom says:

Didn’t catch CC’s pitch count, what is it now?

  135. Alex Rodriguez says:

Based on my conversation with C.C. and also something I heard from Mike Axisa earlier today, we will be winning the WS this year, so no fear.

  136. Cuso says:

Cal: “If the Orioles don’t score, they can’t win.”

  137. awesomeo says:

Nobody is in scoring position so maybe swisher can get a hit.

  138. Mick taylor says:

    Yahoo finance

  139. Hall and Nokes says:

Just mystified at all the guessing at the plate.

  140. your mom says:

    Good lord.

  141. David N says:

So we’re not getting the inside corner either. WTF umps?

  142. oldmanalex currently benchwarming says:

okay it is time for swisher to take his rightful place on the BENCH. this mofo looks like absolute dirt.

  143. awesomeo says:

Time for a grandy double decker.

  144. jon says:

bat breaks into a million pieces

    * grandy picks up 4 pieces *

  145. Ethan says:

    Ouch that stings for grandy

  146. Cy Pettitte says:

    holy shit GRANDY!

  147. Dan in Athens says:

    Now that’s fair

  148. oldmanalex currently benchwarming says:

    well grandy is back bitches.

  149. Ethan says:

  150. Pat D says:

    Thanks for showing up, Curtis.

  151. Mike Axisa says:

Told you they should have sat Curtis.

    • David N says:

I’ll admit it. I wanted it before the game. I wanted Ibanez in left and Ichiro in center.

      I’m happy to be wrong.

  152. vicki says:

    now that’s a true outcome!

  153. Bill R says:

    BOUT F’N TIME!!!

  154. David N says:

  155. The Real Greg says:

    Tweet from Jim Bowden

Matt Wieters the best in the AL in catching elevated fastballs and getting strike calls on balls #sorryCano

And Brett Gardner wouldn’t do that either, Mike

  156. BigBlueAL says:

    I like Grandy again.

  157. Knoxvillain says:

Grandy coming around just in time for the ALCS. Fucking awesome.

  158. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

And I wanted Gardner to start.

  159. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

Curtis?! Why would you ever throw him a strike?!

    Either way:

  160. Mick taylor says:

Swisher is the choke king not arod he may stillcost us this game

  161. Cuso says:

I was literally wondering if Curtis’ bat breaking was a solution. Get rid of that bad bat!

  162. Alex Rodriguez says:

Cal Ripken Jr. is a living legend. I will not disrespect him no matter what he says.

  163. YanksFanInBeantown says:

    The Grandyman can!

  164. Tom says:

    Better late than never.

(Smoltz couldn’t even chalk it up as a Yankee stadium cheapie)

/I lied when I said I was done ranting on Smoltz!

  165. Nathan says:

    FINALLY, Granderson!

  166. Captain Gift Basket says:

Congrats to Swish on reaching a milestone – 100 outs in the playoffs. Well done, good sir. 18-118 lifetime. Flush those free agent dollars good bye.

  167. Just too disappointed right now says:

Bats are starting to wake up!

  168. Matt says:

Granderson’s swings looked much better in his first few at bats in this game, and his plate discipline was slowly coming back last night. Was only a matter of time.

Now they just have to get A-Rod going again and they could be dangerous.

    • your mom says:

      and Swish, and Cano, and . . . . .

      • Matt says:

Swisher has been hitting a lot of balls hard, just right at guys. His at bats have been good enough for the most part.

Cano’s struggles are likely in part because they won’t throw him anything to hit with the entire lineup slumping around him. If other guys start to get hot, that might change.

        • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

Also Cano extends the zone on himself when he isn’t getting pitched to. He likes to hit and doesn’t like to walk.

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

I think sitting him today as well as the joy of going to the ALCS will go a long way to getting him going if it’s mental. If it’s his hand lingering and he’s trying to play through it, there’s nothing he can do. Realistically, I’d write the same line up tomorrow, only I’d put Alex between Ibanez and Swisher and at 3rd base.

  169. David N says:

TBS booth sounds like they’re just filling time as the apocalypse approaches.

  170. jjyank (Carsten Charles Cruisin') says:

    Yooo what up RAB?

Finally got home. The DC Metro Gods were kind enough to bless me with very few dead spots, so I got to listen to the make pretty much uninterrupted. Literally just missed Grandy’s bomb. CC is obviously killing it right now.

So how are we feeling tonight?

  171. Pat D says:

Just went back and found the post from oldmanalex is benchwarming.

Thanks for that, it’s hilarious and proves how non-Yankee fans actually know nothing about the Yankees.

  172. awesomeo says:

Yes! Cano looks like he is seeing the ball better too. Hopefully this game ends well, and we keep the mojo going.

  173. Mike N says:

Just got back to my hotel room from meetings and stuff out of town. This is looking really good!!!!!

  174. BigBlueAL says:

Chavez not making it easier to keep benching Arod vs RHP. Have to think despite facing all RH SP vs Detroit Arod will start at least the first couple of games of the ALCS.

  175. Eddard says:

    Lineup for tomorrow-

  176. BJ says:

Sweet Jesus, CC is dominating. This is gorgeous.

  177. CUYanks says:

I think this sums up our collective emotions on Granderson:

  178. David N says:

Strike for them, not for us.

  179. Karl Krawfid says:

    up in the zone still.

Come on CC get your shit together.

  180. Alex Rodriguez says:

BRB guys, Grandy needs gum, Derek needs a black coffee, and Swishy needs another tin of Skoal apple. Dont talk about anything secret without me!

  181. awesomeo says:

    CC looking tired.

  182. Dan in Athens says:

And just like that the tying run comes up with no one out…

  183. David N says:

    Get D-Rob up.

  184. Matt says:

Great time to shrink the zone. You can’t make this stuff up. Those pitches have been a strike all game for Baltimore pitching.

  185. BigBlueAL says:

    So CC gets squeezed??

  186. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    How is nobody warming yet?

  187. YanksFanInBeantown says:

That’s been a strike all fucking night.

  188. Karl Krawfid says:

His been doing this for the past 3 innings.

    Talk to him jesus christ.

  189. Tom says:

Umps got this game in hand.

Let’s only call the outside corner to lefty hitters.

  190. The Real Greg says:

CC has to realize that he is not getting that outside pitch. PITCH AROUND IT. STOP GOING TO THAT PITCH

  191. jon says:

where are all those sticks for CC? the Os got them all night

  192. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

Damnit CC. You settle the down right now big man. I know you’re not getting any close pitches, but figure it out man.

  193. Hugh says:

Two of those pitches to Machado were in the zone.

  194. BigBlueAL says:

For the love of God DRob betting get warmed up quickly.

  195. Pat D says:

Not happy right now. Find the groove, CC.

  196. jon says:

where are all those strikes for CC? the Os got them all night

  197. The Real Greg says:

CC has to adjust to the ump’s strikezone. Even if it’s crap, adjust

  198. oldmanalex currently benchwarming says:

serious question. if your girardi, how do you approach the AROD situation? I’m assuming he’s starting the first few ALCS games, but what’s the leash? can’t just expect him to come and produce…

  199. McLovin says:

Holy crap cc please don’t make this scary

  200. The Real Greg says:

  201. C.C. Sabathia's Mom says:

Y’all best be respectin my baby.

  202. awesomeo says:

    playing with fire :|

  203. Hall and Nokes says:

Hopefully it won’t matter but why wasn’t Robertson warming up at the start of the inning as a precaution? When else would he have pitched?

  204. YanksFanInBeantown says:

  205. David N says:

  206. jjyank (Carsten Charles Cruisin') says:

Hell yeah! HUGE change up right there.

  207. Ethan says:

Huge out! Let’s get through this big fella!

  208. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

    5 Big outs!!

  209. TinoBambino24 says:

    5 MORE OUTS!

  210. BigBlueAL says:

CC getting the velocity up right now.

  211. awesomeo says:

This series has aged me at least 5 years. Too many close games.

  212. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

  213. your mom says:

I hate Lew Ford! CC’s kryptonite.

  214. Matt says:

What the hell was that? Should have been an inning ending DP if he wasn’t leaning the wrong way.

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

one of the draw backs of having a 38 year old SS who had limited range when he was at his peak to begin with.

      • Matt says:

Wasn’t necessarily bad range. He was leaning a bit to his left and couldn’t dive back to the right because of it.

        • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

He has to guess because of his lack of range and guessed wrong, that’s my guess anyway.

  215. Bret "The Hitman" Gardner says:

Derek “Mr. Range” Jeter gives up another run.

  216. BigBlueAL says:

    I cant believe this.

  217. David N says:

    Screw balls that find holes.

  218. jjyank (Carsten Charles Cruisin') says:

Shit. Chill, CC. Double play, end this now.

  219. jon says:

    too bad jeters a statue

  220. The Real Greg says:

What is Gardner doing. Wieters is not fast.

  221. TinoBambino24 says:

    We still got this.

  222. Dan in Athens says:

And by two feet instead of a double play, Nate McCouth (Yankee killer TM) is on deck and barring a double play will come up as the potential go ahead run.

  223. oldmanalex currently benchwarming says:

john fucking smoltz ” thats how you go to the next level”…. this whole series he is so fucking reluctant to give CC credit.

  224. awesomeo says:

Dude is tired. He can’t do anything but throw it down the middle. Hope we get through this…

  225. The Real Greg says:

CC to abandon getting the outside corner. He’s not going to get it.

  226. jjyank (Carsten Charles Cruisin') says:

  227. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

  228. David N says:

    Oh crap.

  229. Pat D says:

I’m about to have a heart attack.

  230. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    un-fucking real

  231. Matt says:

What the hell is wrong with this team? Routine plays.

  232. The Real Greg says:

CC is blowing it. With bad pitching decisions and a bad fielding play.

  233. jon says:

    what the FUCK

  234. Mike N says:

Fuck, CC. Take the sure out!

  235. The Real Greg says:

CC is costing us the the game right now.

    • Bret "The Hitman" Gardner says:

Shouldn’t you be saying how this is all explained by luck and CC is the last person we can blame for it?

  236. awesomeo says:

    Take him out girardi!

  237. Tom says:

Got to take the out at first. Cal is absolutely right.

  238. Karl Krawfid says:

    Choke job in progress.

  239. Matt says:

McLouth has to be his last hitter

  240. i collect brett gardner cards says:

    calm down everyone.

  241. Mike N says:

    HUUGE K!

  242. YanksFanInBeantown says:

    Aight, CC

  243. Dan in Athens says:

    Time for DRob?

  244. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

HUGE K!!! Joe go get him!!

  245. jjyank (Carsten Charles Cruisin') says:

    Whew. Okay, Carsten. One. More.

  246. Matt says:

Maybe I’d leave him in after he made some good pitches there with both the fastball and slider

  247. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

Father. Son. Holy Spirt. One more out.

  248. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

I don’t like the move to leave CC in.

  249. David N says:

    Again with the non-strikes.

  250. your mom says:

  251. spectra says:

    Orioles Everyone..
Has there ever been a luckier team?

  252. C.C. Sabathia's Mom says:

You are all horrible people. He is doing his darndest.

  253. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

Live with CC or die with CC. Work or not, it’s the right move IMHO.

  254. jjyank (Carsten Charles Cruisin') says:

One more good pitch, CC. Come on, big fella.

  255. awesomeo says:

    man that was ugly.

  256. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

    3 MOAR OUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  257. Mike N says:

    YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  258. Dan in Athens says:

    I miss Mo.

  259. YanksFanInBeantown says:

  260. awesomeo says:

    Good job jete!

  261. your mom says:

    HELL YEAH CC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  262. jjyank (Carsten Charles Cruisin') says:

    Wow. I can breathe now.

  263. Ethan says:

and exhale. Some extra runs pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  264. PreserveTheJoba says:

  265. David N says:

  266. Matt says:

Jeter giveth and he taketh away. Not sure how many shortstops make a play like that so easily.

  267. dkidd says:

    never in doubt

    /throws up

  268. Karl Krawfid says:

    Holy shit.

    Heart attack inning.

  269. Eddard says:

Whew. Good game by CC. Now hand it over to Soriano for the save.

  270. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

Here we go…they can do it, keep the Big Man in for the ninth!!! Do it Joe! Do it!

  271. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

CC You just knocked like 10 years off my life..and I’m completely okay with it.

  272. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    And fucking exhale.

More runs please. I don’t think I can take this drama again in the 9th.

  273. Matt says:

Leave in CC to face Davis before going to Soriano for Jones and Wieters?

  274. Pat D says:

Gonna guess it’s Soriano in the 9th.

  275. xnyles says:

I would leave CC in and try to get the complete game.

  276. David N says:

Ok, this has been bothering me for a while: who is that guy in the Farmer’s commercial?

  277. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

can i haz moar runz plz

  278. CUYanks says:

I’d like to see Soriano (if he’s coming in), with Robertson warming up right behind him. More than that, I’d like to see about 2 more runs in the bottom of the 8th.

  279. VT Yankee Fan (Phil Phranchise) says:

The Os have scored (I think) 10 runs so far in this series. That’s got to be near an all-time low for a team that went all 5 games.

  280. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

Not sure why, but even though the bases were loaded, it didn’t seem stressful. Perhaps CC instills faith in the masses.

  281. your mom says:

Orioles trying their best to beat us with dinky ass hits.

  282. BigBlueAL says:

CC almost gave me a heart attack that inning but in the end the big man came thru big time.

  283. Alkaline says:

Let’s go YANKS! I’ve had to watch most of the game at the gym. I didn’t get much of a workout, though..

  284. CUYanks says:

Leverage index was in the red there.

  285. Hall and Nokes says:

When this game comes back on I better see Mo ripping off his hoodie and running to the bullpen.

  286. awesomeo says:

    :Beast mode activated

  287. Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in the 9th Inning) says:

I won’t lie. I shat myself like eight times.

  288. YanksFanInBeantown says:

A real ace wouldn’t have given up a run!

    /stuart a’d

  289. David N says:

We can score off Pedro Strop.

  290. Dan in Athens says:

Another run or two would be nice.

  291. Hall and Nokes says:

Pete Ports! Time for some insurance runs.

  292. Cy Pettitte says:

can’t even imagine how many years this ALDS has taken off my life.

  293. Tom says:

    That’s low – I know it’s automatic, but it’s low.

  294. mike_h says:

Who comes in the 9th? Soriano went 2 innings yesterday, DRob looks ready

  295. TinoBambino24 says:

  296. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

    Run Ichi! RUN!

  297. your mom says:

Come on Cano, break out of your slump now!

  298. The Real Greg says:

    And Buck’s going to Matusz.

  299. CG says:

don’t get caught stealing ichiro! just play it safe!

  300. Ethan says:

I’m feeling a bomb by cano right now

  301. Anthony says:

Sorta late but oh my god CC. I’d trust no one else in that scenario. MVP of the ALDS.

  302. Mick taylor says:

I think we have a chance to win now that swisher is out of the game if I were the yanks and we advance to play the tigers I would dump swisher and add Dickerson Dickerson would be faster and better defensively and he could not hit worse than the choke king . If Gardner can play use him and dickyFuck swisher he is the worst hitter in the history of post season baseball send him home early so he can start looking for a new employer if not, you will be tearing your hair out if the Yankees play Detroit everytimethe choke king ruins a rally

  303. awesomeo says:

Cano is gonna hit a Left/Center double in the gap.

  304. JR says:

Gotta say, I thought the chat today was harsh on Ichiro. I for one would like to see him resigned and I think its hard to argue, given his production post-trade, that it would be a “disaster” or the worst possible offseason move, but just one man’s opinion…

  305. dkidd says:

if the yankees win, maybe it’s better not to have an off day. curtis and ichiro can carry the momentum over

maybe they’ll be too tired to be nervous

  306. Cy Pettitte says:

    wtf Robinson

  307. jjyank (Carsten Charles Cruisin') says:

Well, here we go. Three more outs.

  308. your mom says:

    Awesome Cano, just awesome.

  309. RkyMtnYank says:

    Oh, Robbie “one pitch”.

  310. Mike N says:

  311. CG says:

lol ok, didn’t have to worry about that

  312. Matt says:

Another outstanding at bat from Cano. This is sad.

  313. The Real Greg says:

I think CC’s staying in. Didn’t see Soriano up in the pen. And he (CC) has manhandled Adam Jones and Chris Davis in this game.

  314. CUYanks says:

Everyone call an ambulance while you still can. Heart attacks on line 1.

  315. i collect brett gardner cards says:

  316. dkidd says:

    i untuck you motherfuck*r!!!

  317. Hans Moleman says:

    Moar CC?

  318. David N says:

    Damn, CC still out there.

  319. YanksFanInBeantown says:

    Let’s go CC!

  320. mike_h says:

Soriano probably said he cant go

  321. Mike N says:

  322. jjyank (Carsten Charles Cruisin') says:

  323. Matt says:

If CC can finish this game off, it would be tremendous. The bullpen is probably exhausted after the last 2 nights. Having a fresh pen for the first few games next series would be really awesome because they might have some guys going on short rest in the first few games.

  324. YanksFanInBeantown says:

    Brett! I’ve missed him

  325. PreserveTheJoba says:

    3 more outs. 3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.3 more outs.lets go lets go. we can do this. yes, we can do this

  326. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

I want CC to #untuck at the end of this MF!

  327. Hans Moleman says:

How can they not cut to Mo with that stat?

  328. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

    TWO MORE OUTS!!!!!!

  329. Matt says:

No Mo, but because of it Girardi is willing to use his starters for 10 or 15 extra pitches. With how good the SP is, they’re basically filling that missing inning themselves.

  330. Mike N says:

Swisher looks like he’s gonna explode in the dugout!

  331. Hans Moleman says:

Lol at the guy screaming “John Smoltz I fucked your mother” in the crowd

  332. Matt says:

With how conscious Davis is of the slider, you would probably strike him out looking with a FB inside.

  333. jjyank (Carsten Charles Cruisin') says:

  334. David N says:

    ONE. MORE.

  335. Mike N says:

  336. YanksFanInBeantown says:

    1 more…

  337. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

    1 MOAR!!!!!!

  338. awesomeo says:

WOW ballsy as hell going up top. At least he knew to throw high if he was gonna miss.

  339. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

Fuck I can’t believe I have to listen to the end of this game on my phone while riding a train. Gotta hope the signal stays strong.

  340. Mike N says:

Finally some fucking noise in YS3!

  341. vicki says:

great season, birds. but the better team won.

  342. Defensive Indifference says:

    START SPREADIN’ THE NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  343. Mike N says:

    YIPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  344. jjyank (Carsten Charles Cruisin') says:

  345. David N says:

    ALCS BABY!!!!!!

  346. YanksFanInBeantown says:

Well, I guess I’ll see you all in the ALCS

  347. Ethan says:

  348. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Hell Yes.

    Mother F’ing ACE.

  349. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

  350. Leg-End says:

Yes! Hell of a game CC!

  351. Total Dominication says:

  352. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

    The Yankees win motherfucker!

  353. Hall and Nokes says:

Good chance some fans are still coming in through the gates.

  354. Bret "The Hitman" Gardner says:

Yeah, fuck you John Smoltz, I hope you fucking like that.

  355. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

  356. Dale Mohorcic says:

    didn’t someone predict a 3-1 win today? ; )

  357. YanksFanInBeantown says:

    Cry, Orioles. Cry.

  358. PreserveTheJoba says:

  359. awesomeo says:

REMATCH! Hit in detroit and we can win it.

  360. DT says:

Remember CC was our not ace?

  361. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

The Buck STOPPED here. Seriously though, kudos to the O’s!

  362. YanksFanInBeantown says:

If only we had a real ace…

  363. David N says:

    Not An Ace.

  364. dkidd says:

we play today, we win today

    dat’s it!

  365. Just too disappointed right now says:

Now time for revenge against the tigers!!

  366. Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8) says:

    Bring it on, Tigers.

  367. Mick taylor says:

Please add Dickerson dump the choke king swisher

  368. BK2ATL says:

Is CC an ace yet??? Just checking.

Hey Buck…..yeah, they disrespected Flanny again. Go home and don’t pop a blood vessel. Hahahaha!!!

  369. JRod says:

We FINALLY put those annoying little fucks away. It wasn’t pretty, but there’s a special satisfaction in winning an EPIC war of attrition. SWEET

  370. Anthony says:

We did it guys!!! NO MORE ORIOLES!!!!

  371. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

CC wasn’t happy enough with 8 2/3 IP last time, so 9 IP, 1 R for him this time. Ho hum.

  372. Alex Rodriguez says:

Guys! We won the game guys!

  373. The Real Greg says:

CC with the first CG for the Yankees in a winner take all game since Ralph Terry in the ’62 World Series.

  374. ropeadope says:

In the bag the whole time.

Going to lay down and try to recover from the half dozen mini strokes and “mild” heart attacks I suffered in the past 72 hours.

Hope to be out of bed by game 3 vs. Detroit.

  375. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

I’m dropping “of Doom” moving forward, it’s not fitting.

  376. Alex Rodriguez says:

Guys just so you know and have nothing to fear: Tomorrow I will be in the starting line up once again. I will be playing short stop and batting lead off! Wooooey Wooooey! Catcha L8er

  377. Dan in Athens says:

    Dear Buck, Nate, etc,

Go the fuck home and make me some crab cakes.

  378. BJ says:

Phew. Glad it’s over. The couple O’s fans I know were starting to get really irritating.

  379. yo says:

  380. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Yay last comment. I can die now.

  381. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

This is payback for that bullshit in 2006. Suck it, Showalter.
