Via Joel Sherman: The Yankees have no interest in free agent nominal outfielder Delmon Young. They’re still looking for a right-handed bat even after signing Matt Diaz to a minor league pact last week.
Young, 27, hit .267/.296/.411 (89 wRC+) last season and .267/.299/.403 (89 wRC+) in over 1,100 plate appearances over the last two seasons. He has been better against southpaws (.305/.335/.467, 117 wRC+). Despite his big postseason series against the Yankees, Young is a terrible hitter overall and somehow an even worse fielder. He was also arrested for an anti-Semitic hate crime in New York in April 2012, and that’s just not gonna fly.
