Sherman: Yankees not interested in Delmon Young

Via Joel Sherman: The Yankees have no interest in free agent nominal outfielder Delmon Young. They’re still looking for a right-handed bat even after signing Matt Diaz to a minor league pact last week.

Young, 27, hit .267/.296/.411 (89 wRC+) last season and .267/.299/.403 (89 wRC+) in over 1,100 plate appearances over the last two seasons. He has been better against southpaws (.305/.335/.467, 117 wRC+). Despite his big postseason series against the Yankees, Young is a terrible hitter overall and somehow an even worse fielder. He was also arrested for an anti-Semitic hate crime in New York in April 2012, and that’s just not gonna fly.

    Michael Morse

  2. Robinson Tilapia says:

Per Joel Sherman, the Yankees also have no interest in syphilis.

  3. TheOneWhoKnocks says:

He’d be potentially interesting bc of the way he tags lefties but the attitude issues make it not worth it.

  4. forensic says:

I love how this is supposed to qualify as ‘news’ from Sherman.

  5. LK says:

I usually never say no to a minor league deal, but it’s pretty hard to get on board to signing a player right after they allegedly commit a hate crime in your city.

  6. jjyank says:

Good news, as far as I’m concerned. Pass.

  7. Robinson Tilapia says:

When launching a bat at an umpire isn’t the worst thing you’ve done in your career…

    • MannyGeee says:

Also, when the things you do are so bad that it makes people forget you threw a bat at an umpire…

No joke, completely forgot about the bat incident.

      • Steve (different one) says:

Well, there is another way to make everyone forget you threw a bat at an ump…just be lovable David Ortiz. (Also works for showing up on a list of failed PED testers)

    • Now Batting says:

      What a perfect comment

  8. Pistol Pete says:

He makes AJ Pierzynski look like the Prince of Darkness, he’s an asshole, glad Cash is staying away.

  9. Get Phelps Up says:

I want less than nothing to do with this guy. Good.

  10. dan gen says:

YEAH ,mike says he is a terrible hitter….wait to you see mike diaz….

  11. Now Batting says:

Over/Under Matt Diaz getting 100 ABs as a Yankee?

  12. Tom says:

Good to see most of RAB agreeing on something.

When the holidays don’t do it, but Delmon Young brings people together in harmony… it’s a Festivas miracle.

  13. Karl Krawfid says:

    Jeez man he’s only 27?

    • Dalek Jeter (formerly: Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)) says:

Right? It feels like the bat incedent was like a decade ago. Either way, no thank you. Pass. Nein. Not needed. Not wanted. We won’t call you, please don’t call us.

    • Havok9120 says:

I couldn’t believe it either. The man should be at least 35 for all the hubbub he’s raised in his career.

  14. dkidd says:

    bye bye to ronan tynan
    no interest in delmon young

    shofar, so good

  15. Pat D says:

I keep saying Delmon is getting a bad rap. I’ve said it once, but I’ll say it again: homeless person killer Jackie Autry told all of American that Delmon Young is a class act!

  16. RetroRob says:

Who was the other crazy OFer that came out of the Rays system? He’s not even in the game anymore, although he’s even younger than Young.
