Murti: Yankees re-sign David Adams to minor league deal

By

Via Sweeny Murti: The Yankees have re-signed David Adams to a minor league contract. He was released earlier this week to create room on the 40-man roster for Vernon Wells and was apparently unable to find a better opportunity elsewhere.

Adams, 25, hit .306/.385/.450 (133 wRC+) with eight homers in 383 plate appearances for Double-A Trenton last summer. He missed big league camp because of a back injury that required an epidural, the latest in a litany of injuries that have beset him since 2010. Adams is expected to open the season as the everyday third baseman for Triple-A Scranton.

Wait, so was releasing him still a sure sign of the end of times?

What are the odds that the yanks had this loosely worked out before they released him? I’d guess greater than zero.

  2. CountryClub says:

    Cool

  3. Jersey Joe says:

    Nice.

  4. jjyank says:

Exactly why I didn’t get worked up when they released him. I had a feeling we’d be seeing him re-signed in short order. I would imagine they talked about signing him back before they made the decision to release him.

    • USA says:

No you didn’t. He are just chiming in right now D-Bag.

      “I had a feeling…” Sure Thing Buddy

      • Cool Lester Smooth says:

I hate it when he are just chiming in right now!

      • jjyank says:

        You’re an idiot.

      • Electric Nunez ll says:

What? Some people need the flimsiest of excuses- wait, no excuse- to be a complete “D-bag” themselves.

Yes indeed, having a feeling- not guaranteeing, mind you- that a minor transaction could be completed as thought is just so much the pinnacle of obnoxious hubris.

You must randomly swear at people (or just out loud to no one in particular) as a hobby… But in the isolation ward it isn’t no biggie…

You mean no team had a 40 man spot for a frequently injured 25 year old that hasn’t played a game past AA?

  6. Cashman knows a little more then us huh?

    • The Real Me (Formerly Cris Pengiucci) says:

Not possible!!1!1! I read on the internet he’s an imbecile! It has to be true!

    • Conor says:

Turned out to be a good time for Cashman to release him after all. Despite some faults, Cashman does a good job tinkering at the edges of the team.

  7. Steve (different one) says:

What about the guy who revoked his fandom over this?

  8. Steve S says:

Nice to see some relatively good news for once in a while.

  9. A.D. says:

    Season saved!

In all seriousness glad they were able to get him back

  10. trr says:

apparently his services were not in great demand….I just don’t see this as a big deal at all

  11. Vern Sneaker says:

The Yanks prefer Nix to Adams as back-up infielder, even though Nix can’t hit a lick. Are they nuts, or does this say something about Adams usefulness?

  12. LitFig says:

The long national nightmare is over!

David Adams is back in the fold…..

  13. Vern Sneaker says:

Or second any more. And unproven at third. And not enough power for DH.

  14. LarryM Fl says:

Lets see where Mr. Adams fits with the Yankees. Resigned to a minor league contract to be the third base starter on the AAA team. Hopefully, Youklis can stay healthy long enough till Arod comes back. But my thinking is Arod is not coming back anytime soon maybe not even til 2014. So Mr. Adams is our backup third baseman for Youklis.

    • Prof. Joe says:

My thinking as well. I have this feeling that ARod may not be back until 2014, thus right now Adams is really the backup 3rd baseman. For the moment, anyway.

  15. MannyGeee says:

This signing is a travesty… All he’s gonna do is block teh kidz…. Or something.

    • Electric Nunez ll says:

Well, he is like a quasi-kid, per se, so he would only quasi-block the true kidzes, so I’m like, quasi-ok with it.

F**k, I’m less than useless by the time the weekend rolls around…
