Thunder walk-off with a win on Austin’s double

Some roster moves from Josh Norris and Chad Jennings:

  • LHP Vidal Nuno (groin) and OF Brennan Boesch (shoulder) were both placed on the Triple-A Scranton DL. No word on the timetable, but word is Nuno’s injury isn’t too serious.
  • RHP Graham Stoneburner has been moved up to Triple-A Scranton, IF Carmen Angelini up to Double-A Trenton, and IF Ali Castillo down to High-A Tampa.

Triple-A Scranton (4-1 loss to Buffalo)

  • DH Thomas Neal: 1-4, 2 K

  • CF Melky Mesa: 0-4
  • RHP Chris Bootcheck: 7 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 5/9 GB/FB — 69 of 105 pitches were strikes (66%) … 21 runs allowed in his last 32.1 innings across his last six starts

Double-A Trenton (3-2 win over Richmond, walk-off style)

  • DH Ramon Flores: 1-4, 2 K, 1 CS, 1 HBP
  • CF Slade Heathcott: 1-3, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 SB
  • RF Tyler Austin: 3-5, 2 2B, 1 RBI, 1 SB — walk-off double … 16-for-43 (.372) with five doubles and two homers in his last ten games
  • C J.R. Murphy: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
  • RHP Zach Nuding: 5 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 WP, 5/5 GB/FB — 54 of 82 pitches were strikes (66%)
  • RHP Caleb Cotham: 4 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, 4/1 GB/FB — 41 of 54 pitches were strikes (76%) … going to do the tandem starter thing for the time being, but he’s probably a reliever long-term anyway

High-A Tampa Game One (3-1 loss to Lakeland in seven innings) makeup of yesterday’s rainout

  • CF Mason Williams: 2-3, 1 BB, 1 K
  • DH Angelo Gumbs: 1-4, 3 K
  • LF Ben Gamel: 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K — four hits in his last two games after a five-game hitless streak
  • C Gary Sanchez: 0-3
  • 2B Rob Refsnyder: 1-3, 2 E (throwing, fielding) — any time he wants to start hitting again would be cool with me
  • RHP Michael Pineda: 4.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 4/3 GB/FB — had more on him earlier

High-A Tampa Game Two (2-1 loss to Lakeland)

  • 3B Dante Bichette: 0-4, 1 K — five hits in his last 32 at-bats (.156)
  • CF Jake Cave: 1-3, 1 K – got picked off second
  • RHP Jose Campos: 3.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 1 Balk, 5/2 GB/FB — 44 of 61 pitches were strikes (72%) … 38/11 K/BB in 40 innings
  • LHP Dietrich Enns: 3 IP, zeroes, 1 K, 3/4 GB/FB — 15 of 26 pitches were strikes (58%) … just too good this year

A Pineda sighting in an actual game. Good to see.

Also great to see Austin continuing to hit. He has that one bad 0-6 game; otherwise he is hot as can be. BTW Was he injured for a few games. Seems like they sat him for about three days after that 0-6, but I didn’t see anything written as to why.

  2. Preston says:

Tyler Austin starting to adjust to the level is good to see, Pineda pitching in a game is even better to see.

  3. Govin says:

Now thats the Tyler Austin I remember from last year.

  4. JobaWockeeZ says:

When will Campos be allowed to pitch?

  5. Coolerking101 says:

Refsnyder is hitting .290/.350 in his last 10 games. I’d say he has already started to hit again.

    • Preston says:

Does anybody know what the plan for him defensively is? His fielding percentage makes it look like he’s not long for 2b, is this something mechanical he can clean up or will he have to move and if he has to move where does he go?

  6. forensic says:

At least Montero can get to AAA. Pineda can’t even get out of High-A.

    Seattle won the trade.

  7. Brian S. says:

    Bichette Jr. sucks.

  8. CONservative governMENt says:

    Rearrange this list:

    1. Sanchez
    2. Austin
    3. Heathcott
    4. Williams
    5. Jagielo
    6. Campos
    7. Judge
    8. Ramirez
    9. Murphy
    10. Hensley
    11. Banuelos
    12. Rankin

  9. CONservative governMENt says:

    Forgot DePaula!

I’d probably get Gumbs in to a top 15 spot.

Is Torrens going to the GCL?

  10. pharryn says:

Campos too high on both lists until he starts to throw like he did before his injury. Looks very mediocre!

  11. Ronald says:

Wasn’t ensnare drafted as a starter? I hope he is coming out of the bullpen to limit his innings and not because they already converted him to a reliever so early.

  12. JohnnyC says:

Angelini to Trenton. We’ll finally get to see if this version of Angelini is for real. Would be some story if he can keep it going.

  13. shittyshittybangbang says:

Mike must be in a bad mood. I saw very little wrong with phelps’ outing. Hiccups ? Sure. But by-in-large, a confident, competent “pitcher” with a plan. All-be-it, its the mariners, but hey, mlb is mlb. And COM’ON MUSTELLIER ! Your killing me son. Get back on track.

  14. nycsportzfan says:

Enns needs to be promoted to high A ball.

  15. Wayne says:

If we had Logan, replaced by enns and rondon next year that be cool since Logan is free agent this year. I really want tommy kahnle as closer next year. Bullpen could be totally new next year. If Logan signs with another team any chance we offer him arbitration and get draft pick but i am not sure they would do that.

  16. Wayne says:

My bad by rondon only enns is till in a ball damn hopefully rondon could do it. Bullpen next year kahnle , clairborne , Robertson, Rondon and warren is the long man.

  17. Wayne says:

Banuelos and campos should not be on that list. Any chance Pineda replaces Hughes instead of phelps if he comes up and is ready.. Hughes is a free agent this year anyway.
